The Susan J. Chaplinsky Fund For Faculty Excellence In Private Capital Markets is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to a beloved friend, colleague and mentor while supporting the next generation of leaders in private capital markets.

SUSAN CHAPLINSKY: A CHAMPION OF EDUCATION

Susan was a passionate and dedicated educator who spent her career inspiring students to reach their full potential. A thought leader in private capital markets, she was known for her deep understanding of the industry and commitment to helping others succeed. Her influence on the Darden community was nothing less than profound, earning her wide recognition and numerous awards for her teaching and research in finance, including popular courses such as "Corporate Financing," "Entrepreneurial Finance and Private Equity" and "Hot Topics in Finance."

"You look up great teacher, you look up Darden in the dictionary, you see her picture standing right there. She was that complete person that typifies Darden not only a great teacher but also a great researcher, a great case writer, and a great servant leader," said Darden Dean Scott Beardsley.

HONORING HER LEGACY

Now, it is time to honor her legacy and continue her lifelong work by establishing a fund in her name that will support future leaders' ongoing development and success in the field. With the growing importance of private capital markets and the increasing demand for knowledgeable professionals, this fund could not be more timely or necessary.

SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS

Through the Susan J. Chaplinsky Fund for Faculty Excellence in Private Capital Markets, we will support Darden faculty and students in education, experiential learning and professional development The fund will support faculty as they work to advance their research and teaching and deliver the very best student experience in the field of private capital markets while providing students with the resources needed for much-needed education and professional development

The support from this fund will help ensure the school's strategic advancement within the sphere of private capital markets and foster a culture of excellence in teaching and research.

Examples of impact include:

• Expanding private capital markets coursework offerings

• Purchasing technology and software related to private capital markets for use by students and faculty

• Supporting activities sponsored by student clubs related to private capital markets

• Enhancing career development services and support for students interested in private capital markets careers

Susan inspired not only her students but also her colleagues. Professor Felicia Marston, a faculty counterpart of Susan’s at UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce, spoke highly of her dedication and influence on her career: "Professionally, I've never met anyone more dedicated to education...And I've thought of her every single day before I've entered the classroom this term."

Professor Elena Loutskina added, "She inspired perfection through her own dedication, perseverance, leadership, and humor." And further added, "When people like [Susan] cross your path, don't take these people for granted...I hope we can all change as many people's lives as she did."
