It’s summertime and the living’s easy! Lucky for me, I had a head start to the heat with a muchneeded and enjoyed trip to the South. Not only was I fortunate enough to visit family during my getaway, but I also had the chance to take my warm-weather wardrobe out for a stroll: vibrant prints, sunny colours and sizzling styles, here I come! The summers in Canada are beautiful, but are known to be short-lived, so I take advantage of any sunshine I get. Yes, I’m that person who’s rocking a short frock and sandals as soon as the sun makes its appearance in early April (while fellow Canucks are still sporting their winter gear). I’m all about baring skin in the rising temps. Who says us curvy gals have to cover up? Soak up the sun and free your arms, legs and bellies! Need some inspiration? Read our interview on page 31 with body-positive advocate Honor Curves. I’ll admit though, one area that I’ve been selfconscious about is my mid-section. Though it wasn’t easy at first, I DARE’d myself to wear my very first bikini last month. Read about my experience and see the styles I wore from Forever 21+ on page 13. On September 1st, the plus size retailer launched its first Canadian store in the new wing of the Toronto Eaton Centre, and is expected to launch three new locations in Ontario later this fall! Torrid has quickly become the fastest growing retailer in the U.S. for young women sizes 12 to 28, with more than 280 stores across the country. Director Jenny McQuaile’s new body image documentary, Straight/Curve is shaking up the fashion industry. While the film is currently in production and set to release in fall 2016, it will give audiences an exclusive sneak peek into the top secret world that is the plus size fashion industry. The film is expected to follow some key players, including Georgia Pratt, Kate Dillon and Sophie T. Simmons (to name a few!), all of whom have been working and fighting to create a change and make the fashion industry more inclusive for all sizes. McQuaile hopes to empower women everywhere and help you to “love your bodies no matter what your shape or size, as long as you’re healthy.” RE

A: I feel most confident after I accomplish a goal or finish a workout. It feels good to accomplish a goal that I’ve set. What’s next for you? A: We [had] the World Championship in Beijing in August—it’s basically the same thing as the Olympics, just a year earlier and a different name. A: Not really! Growing up in Las Vegas meant that nudity was something that I never had an issue with. Everyone who worked on the shoot was very professional, so it was easy to be comfortable.
