BAUHAUS MUSEUM thesis work. with: Corrado Di Domenico
The city of Dessau is known especially to have been the headquarter of the Bauhaus school, whose has became not only a universally knowledge symbol but also an expression in general use. On the occasion of its centenary, the Bauhaus Dessau Fondation has decided to achieve the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, that will rise in the city park (Stadtpark), in the middle of the city, a stategical site because it’s a connection between the Bauhaus buildings and the city istitutional buildings. The site is full of symbolic contents: it housed the ducal palace of Anhalt-Dessau dukes, completaly destroyed during the World War II. So, the new museum is conceived not only like expression of Bauhaus style but also like an evidence of the preexisting. Given that every territory mantains the shapes of the time, the project imagines to rebuilt the facade on FriedrichstrĂ&#x;e and to make a suspended body (that hosts the exposition gallery) where the ducal palace rose in the past. The ground floor is open in order to leave a physical and visually connection with the park. The museum opposite open space is been conceived like a big square where the turistic flux and moments of daily life can gather.

POLO BIBLIOTECARIO executive project. with Di Domenico architetti
The executive project consists in the rehabilitation and restoration of early ‘900 military barracks – the years of the Great War – with its reconfiguration to Librian pole of Puglia: we are in the city of Bari, in the south of Italy. The building is figured like new and modern library, based on a media mix and open to everyone, projected toward the future and to be able to adapt itself at socials and technologicals transformations. The “new library” is thought like an open site, flexible at the differents hours, of easy access for everybody to the on-line technologies and to accommodate people of differents cultures. It’s a new kind of library, not conceived like a traditional library but that provides new technologies and functions (cinema, music, game, comics, expositions, ecc.). The project has been drawn up in the view of conservative philosophy. Conservative and revealing: invastigation of hidden geometric matrices, to enhance components of tecnological quality (particularly the horizontal structures – iron and little vaults slabs and renforced concrete slabs). Technology represent both an element of distinction beetwen new and old and the main trait-d’union: they are distinct but joined. The mains principles of the project conception are: minimal limitation of interventions; conservation of the historical barrack system and shapes; distinctness of the new; use of compatible methods and materials with the originals; respect of the “time” - and of the “ravages of time” - like foundamental material of architecture: the time of historic architecture adds always and don’t remove.

POMPEI. SAVE THE HISTORY competition: honorable mention
The museum project was born from the idea of relating the ancient Pompeii with the new Pompeii. We analyzed the attraction poles of two “cities”: points then become generators of the museum itself. The project tries to exploit these typical features of the ancient city and make it a reason to design creating interesting relationships between full and empty, open rooms in visual relationship between them. Another key aspect of the museum are the stairs and ramps that aren’t just a simple vertical connection but generate the beginning of a real teaching “Promenade”. Moreover, these allow direct access to some areas of the museum which must be accessible even when the exhibition spaces are closed. Then, the museum is no longer understood as the only container objects show to tourists but also as a center of interest for the inhabitants that can participate in activities that take place inside. The building fits into the existing context in a neutral but decisive way, with the use of translucent materials such as polycabonate that let leak out a soft glow at the dusk. Its impressive dimensions make it feel the presence but not placing itself in opposition with the context. “Pompeii is much more than a museum. Pompei is life itself. “(Amelie Nothomb 1996)

HOUSE OF PRAYER Atelier: Giovanni Di Domenico
The intervention area is located in Berlin, in the Colh district, today the Mitte district. The sud area keeps its medieval aspect until the World War II, where the area housed the Saint Pierre church, also it demolished. The ruins of the ancient gothic church are to the base of the design of the inter-religious center that hosts a christian church, a mosque and a synagogue. In order to promote the knowledge of the tree religions, it shall provide expositions spaces, taste of ritual foods, a library and other services. In the project, the ruins of the ancient gothic church has been considered like somethings to safeguard. The first plan, that allow the access, is enclosed by a strip of wall that connect together open and closed space. The visitors can see the ruins from everywhere through differents empty. The hall is the meeting place between the faithful of tree religions and where is also possible to organise temporary expositions. Throughout the ramp that links the differents levels, you can get down at the underground floor where there are the church ruins. The access of the tree places of worship is situated on the second floor. With a system of double boxes it has been possible to ensure the orientation of the tree places of worship.

CASA CUBO 10x10 Atelier: F. Costanzo
The point of departure of the project is represented by a cube of 10x10m and by the opportunity of its repetition. The cube stereometry disappear thanks to extrusion, the game of fulls and empty, and of light and shadows. On the ground floor, through a half-hidden courtyard, it’s possible to get into the studio apartment; on the first floor there is a duplex accessible with an external stairs and characterised by a double height.

DESIGNING [IN] GREENFIELD workshop. with Efisio Pitzalis
The project is based on the reconversion of a disposed and residual area, placed in the Naples periphery, between Casoria e Casavatore. The project proposal is configured as a cartographic incision similar to a light plowing. A landscape project, on a large scale, where the project wants to take a strategic and harmonic connection between the spaces of the residue (dĂŠlaissĂŠ), of the wild (friche) and the existing urban context. From the morphological point of view the project is a large park of triangular matrix with small reliefs elevation. The diagram was born from two directions from which originates a subplot of cuts. Within the plot of the crossing path sand of the services emerges a system of plates with essences to be allocated to the flower market. Some volumes contain the areas for the market and the areas for the processing of shoes. The same compositional triangle is adopted for the local market. This is formed by a system of umbrellas useful for shading and for the recovery of the rainwater. Only tower-deposit emerges as a single element: iconic symbol of the area with the peripheral limits of three urban realities.
