FARMER’S MARKET & REC CENTER
DIAGONAL STEPPING THERMAL SPA & HOTEL Downtown Chicago, IL
In this group project, the intention was take this empty lot on the corner of Harrison and Wells in Chicago and break the traditional grid. We rotated the building 45 degrees which allowed for sight-lines down the Chicago River and to the downtown area. With the Thermal Spa on the lower level patrons are closer to the river physically and visually. While the lower floor is large, the upper levels continually step back until the top floor is a mere fraction of the floor area.

NATURE COLLISION 1800 sqft Solarium University of Illinois Arboretum Urbana, IL
On the University of Illinois campus the Arboretum is a beautiful place for and learning gathering on campus. However those that volunteer don’t have a central communal or meeting space. There is also a lack of facilities to hold indoor events during the colder months. The building intends to provide the space as well as create a lounge/ multi purpose space for those involved with the arboretum including a kitchen and a few offices. The building is two floors with the upper floor having two entrances that both lead outside atop of a hill, that look out onto the rest of the Arboretum.

TAPERED SECLUSION 800 sqft Dwelling
This 800 square foot dwelling was designed and inspired by a previous work which was manipulated and reconfigured to form and hourglass shape. The idea of the model was to experiment with the idea of heavy and light; featuring a concrete mass as the upper level and wood framing for the lower floor.

BREWhaus BOUTIQUE HOTEL & BREWERY Downtown Champaign, IL
The concept for this hotel was to encompass one of the biggest attractions of the downtown Champaign area into one building that would allow visitors to explore the flavors and taste of the surrounding area breweries without leaving the comfort of their hotel with three featured bar areas. BREWhaus was deigned inspired by the overall shape of containers that beer is often served and stored in; barrels, cans, and mugs.

INTEGRATIONAL BAND Campground Master Plan at Kickapoo State Park Oakwood, IL
Kickapoo State Park was in dire need of camp facilities that would allow for a place for campers to stay for an extended amount of time without having to bring along their own tents. The intention of this master plan was to allow for visitors to gain a different type of experience while staying on site while also having access to indoor plumber less than a few hundred feet away. This centralized gathering house served the purpose along with having indoor amenities such as a communal kitchen, dining and lounging spaces.

CIRCULATION
PUBLIC VS. PRIVATE SUN PATH
ROOM to GROW Farmer’s Market & Teenager Rec Center Champaign, IL In the downtown area of Champaign, there are many amenities for those younger than 13 and older that 21. However the teenager population is left without a place of their own in downtown. This building served as this area of gathering for teenagers in the downtown while also serving as a place to hold the Weekend Mornings Farmer’s Market. The design was inspired by one of the possible uses of the space, basketball. Serving almost as a recreations center, teenagers can come and st up the lower level for a game or two of basketball. The building therefore was designed in relation to the shape of such a court.

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY
Aside from architectural design, a major hobby includes experimenting with portrait photography. The uniqueness and uncontrollable nature of people is what makes every session interesting.
