BLACK WHITE Photographer: Lee Woodward Stylist, Mask and Headwear Designer: Ashley Pearce - Mystic Magic Clothing Provided By: Not Naked Hair and Makeup: Madeline Rose Holland Model: Anna Konstantynowicz

Having just turned 21 I am a couture self-taught mask and headwear designer based in the flat green lands of Norfolk. Mystic Magic is my creative design label that aims to push the barriers of fashion and art to a whole new dimension of blended magical madness where you the customer are invited to plunge into my world of fantasy. All my designs are handcrafted by me here in the UK. Each work of art is like a fragmented piece of my mental mind that stares deep into the heart of things. To wear one of my designs is almost close to gazing through eyes of the creator. I’m all about the finest details in trying to make sure everything is up to my standard of perfection. I value each and every one of my designs the same as they all hold fragments of myself within them. I create from the heart and with it a piece of me will always shine back. Through my eyes the whole world is playground for adventure; my mind runs wild when the two are combined together. I believe inspiration can be driven from anything even down to a pile of junk! I love to spend countless hours browsing the web looking for imaginative fashion photography and watching creative music videos to help fuel my hunger for uniqueness. Over the last few years I’ve been honored to work with the Norwich Fashion Week team as well as many high profile features in such magazines as Vogue, Tatler, Schon and even in Issue 27 of Dark Beauty! I’ve had many amazing photo shoot collaborations with international stylists and photographers such Carmen Göetz photography and stylist Lydia Tidmarsh etc… And I’m always on the lookout to work with new high class creative people that aim to be uniquely different. I believe when two worlds collide it has the power to ignite the sparks that hold true potential to light up the fashion filled skies. 4

My latest achievements have been seen featured on UK’s Strictly Come Dancing TV and catwalks of Clothes Show Live 2014. A good designer is always someone who has faith within themselves to push the boundaries to that next level without allowing others to mould them into someone else’s image. They have to show a sense of enthusiasm and passion in what they create without allowing themselves to get lost within their own successes. They also need to have a complete uniqueness that stands out from the rest and self belief in what they do. My taste in fashion is constantly transforming making it near impossible to pick out a favorite designer, but one thing is for certain designs from Alexander McQueen and Philip Tracey have always been able to take my breath away, so much so that that this next week excited to be going on a VIP trip to see the McQueen ‘Savage Beauty’ exhibition at London’s V&A museum! I’m like a versatile chameleon that can put hand to near anything and in any style. Give me images; ideas and a brief then watch me fly! How do you make a living off your work, or do you? Is there someone who supports you? Currently I do not make a living from my work yet I am now moving through the motions in order to launch myself and brand into the ethos. The support and encouragement is there from the people I have worked with and friends and family. What inspires you for a shoot? Why? The excitement of getting behind the camera is there on every shoot. When creatives get in touch and start bouncing ideas with you the inspiration and visions of their thoughts start to appear. Having that excitement inspires the creation.

I’m a photographer, writer, and guitarist in Raleigh, NC. I began shooting three years ago when I moved here, as a way of collaborating with others and as a catalyst for exploring the city. One style that I enjoy shooting is something that I’ve dubbed “mad heiress.” (Afterwards, I found out that there’s a Horatio Alger novel by the same name. So much for originality!) To me, this evokes a decaying, forgotten, moth-eaten kind of beauty. Equal parts surrealism, dark glamour/goth, and Miss Havisham’s dusty mansion. When I can get away with it, natural light is my preferred light source, usually bounced off of a reflector. I’ve used Cygolite bike lights for several shoots, since I prefer a constant light source to the intermittent effect of flash. When shooting in natural light, I use a tripod and remote trigger as much as possible. I try to take a minimal approach to post work, to accentuate what’s already in the image, but to not add elements that weren’t originally there. I use Photoshop Bridge for initial adjustments, then use Photoshop for a few effects. Sometimes I’ll use Lightroom, but I usually prefer to tweak a lot of aspects by hand than to apply a filter. I favor shooting in decaying surroundings (abandoned places crack dens, houses, hospitals). Because I studied music very intensely for a few years and grew up on a diet of art, sci-fi, and horror films, I often think of these images as little stories, with an accompanying soundtrack. Thanks to the collaborative skills of the folks that I’ve worked with, I feel that some of my more successful images do hint at a story. Sometimes they even inspire accompanying text. A Hidden Place is selections from a shoot I did with model Svetlana Pavlova and MUA Molly Chopin. The location is an abandoned nursing home that has now become a crack den. No one was there when we shot there. The space is very spooky, and we used mostly natural light, diffusing a shaft of sunlight with transparent white curtains, or a bike light to throw shadows across Svetlana and the wall behind her. This shoot inspired a short poem, about what I imagine the existence of the occupant of such an abandoned space must be like: What is your style? Describe it. One style that I enjoy shooting is one that I call “mad heiress.” (Afterwards, I found out that there’s a Horatio Alger novel by the same name. So much for originality!) To me, this evokes a decaying, forgotten, moth-eaten kind of beauty. Equal parts surrealism, dark glamour/goth, and Miss Havisham’s dusty mansion.
