William J. Darley Leaves His Mark Former W. S. Darley & Co. President, CEO and Chairman Bill Darley passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on April 17, 2018. He was 89 years old. Bill worked for Darley since 1950 and became president in 1962. He retired in January 2010 as CEO after 60 years of service but stayed on as Chairman of the Board for another 5 years. He truly left his mark. Truly a world traveler having visited over 135 countries, Bill spent his life learning and mentoring those around him. He was well known for his wisdom and quotes. He served in a leadership capacity in numerous industry and charity organizations. Bill earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University, but he was a salesman at heart. He raised 8 children with his first wife Jeanne who died of cancer in 1981. He went on to marry Fran several years later after seeing her at St. Luke Church where he was a lector. Together they were proud grandparents to many. Bill was a family man, but his passion was the fire service. He loved serving others, especially our customers and those Bill and Fran Darley most in need. He was President of Fire Apparatus Manufacturer Association (FAMA) in 1990 and was named the Industry Star Achiever in 2000. He also served on the IAFC’s Foundation Board, the NFPA 1901 Committee, CFSI board and Dominican University’s Board of trustees, to name a few. Bill was a mentor, leader and inspiration for friends, family and co-workers alike and made Darley the amazing place to work that it is today. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He touched and helped so many. The Darley family was greatly touched by all those who attended his funeral services in River Forest, IL and at the FDIC in Indianapolis. Thank you! Bill will be inducted into the National Fire Heritage Center’s Hall of Legends, Legacies and Leaders on October 8, 2018 in Emmitsburg, MD. For more information visit www.billdarley.com.

General Ray Palumbo Joins Darley Board Darley is pleased to announce that Lt. General (Ret) Raymond P. Palumbo has joined the Darley Board of Directors. General Palumbo replaced Admiral (Ret) Joe Maguire who resigned on September 1, 2018 to head the National Counter-terrorism Center, coordinating the fight against terrorism while overseeing an organization of about 1,000 people. Gen. Palumbo recently retired from the US Army where he was the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Intelligence) for Warfighter Support, and simultaneously served as Director, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Task Force. He served on the Darley Defense Advisory Board for two years prior to his appointment on our corporate board. Board Chairman Paul Darley commented, “We are honored and humbled to have Ray Palumbo a man of Ray’s caliber join our Board. It’s been on honor to work with him over the past few years. He brings an incredible wealth of knowledge in the areas including intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) which are critical to our warfighter customers.” General Palumbo replied, “Darley is a professionally run company and it is a privilege to serve Darley and our warfighters.” A native of Windber, Pennsylvania, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry upon graduating from West Point in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He later earned a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star Medal. Ray and his wife Alice reside in Virginia and have four grown children and five grandchildren.
