When the colors mix on a fabric to form bold, vibrant designs, you get a stunning African print. Tanzanian designers are not letting that opportunity pass by, they use all their imagination to create masterpieces.

They are claiming the fashion industry stage from the Swahili Fashion Week in Dar es Salaam to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in South Africa. Tanzanian designers are pushing the boundaries with a simple “Kitenge” leaving masterpieces in their wake.

Every month Dar Life dedicates this section to young emerging and well-known designers who want to create brands and use the fashion platform as a stepping stone towards achieving their dream. This month we met Anjali Borkhataria whose ideas in designing clothes and accessories are amazing, you must watch out!

Ek-An-Tik is a word that is derived from the Hindu Holy scripture – The Vachanamrut. Ek in Sanskrit means one, and Tik means a check mark. All together means “The One’’. The brand brings a work wear inspired aesthetics in many forms (business man/ woman, plumbers, electricians, builders

etc). Each design focuses on an oversized silhouette to have a zero gender feel with extensive attention to detail.

Anjali Borkhataria is an upcoming fashion designer who grew up in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. She wishes to incorporate things she is inspired by and transcend into art movement using Medias such as digital printing, screen printing, embroidery and graffiti spray painting. She has highly been co-influenced with the culture she has spent the past 3 years through fashion studies in Cape Town, South Africa.

In August 2017, she was featured in a Nigerian magazine called “A Nasty Boy” which featured her denim creation from her AW17 collection. In November 2018, she was awarded with the best fashion designer award, Digital fashion Application award, Brand Design, Business Studies and social media marketing Award from CTCFD. The same year in December she was featured in Vanilla designers which featured her graduate collection called “Logic Board”

Today, Anjali Borkhataria is truly a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry because her Goal is to make her brand not a trending brand but a brand that brings a work wear inspired aesthetics in many forms. Her designs are mostly based on fashion, menswear and sportswear design.
