This year’s festival shines a spotlight on live music from East and Southern Africa, including young and upcoming talents and a special priority on women artists from Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia and Congo Brazzaville

Yusuf Mahmoud, the Festival Director, says this year’s theme is ‘Paza Sauti: Amplifying Women’s Voices’. We don’t select artists only because they are women, he says, creative women and increase their visibility on stage, in promotions and behind the scenes.”

Sauti za Busara is one of the few African festivals that managed to continue annually with live editions in 2020, 2021 and 2022, albeit with more health and safety procedures, whilst maintaining exemplary programming, technical and production standards. Other festivals’ responses to the pandemic were to transform their programmes into distant digital experiences, or even disappear.
