February 29 th marked another milestone for WIKIENDI LIVE! show . The event was spectacular as it captivated a huge number of music enthusiasts across Dar es Salaam, who came to enjoy live music from various traditional and modern artistes in Tanzania. It was a joyous moment to see revellers enjoy the rhythms from different genres.”

The event was graced by various artists who brought different flavors of music, quenching the thirst of revellers with their preferred genres which included traditional music, Singeli, dance and acrobatic shows!

Yves Kami,a Burundian composer who has forged his Afro blues style inspired by Burundi royal drums wowed her audience in an amazing way, leaving them wanting for more.

Among other performances for the night were Remi & The Cocodo Band, a set that got the audience on their feet from the word go!.Remi and the Cocodo

Band plays an exhilarating blend of Afro beat fusion-laced with Tanzanian rhythms in the traditional Gonga style.

Talking about energy and skill, one can not forget ‘The La Luna’, a group that performs traditional music mixing it with acrobatics. The young men and women who make up La Luna

Magufuli Brothers was another acrobatic Duo that showcased juggling skills and unicycle. The crowd, especially children, were screaming with joy every time the artists pulled a new trick.”

Sinaubi,a traditional solo musician and traditional instrumentalist from Dodoma, captured her audience’s hearts with her tantalizing performa nce. Singeli artist Mo Some, With his DJ, this young performer who is also a dance student from MUDA Africa detonated an explosive performance. The crowd obeyed every order he shouted, at some point some of his fans jumped on stage to dance along.

Another artist who also graced the stage of WIKIENDI LIVE! Show was an up and coming The last performance of the day came from Jagwa Music, a famous Mchiriku group that is one of Tanzania’s biggest cultural export.The band rocked the crowd with their wonderful songs which were famous in the past as well as new compositions.

Apart from music, the event also offers public Chap Chap workshops, exhibitions and open studios. The public workshop this time around was named Chap Chap Clay as it was about ceramic art which was facilitated by a South African artist Sbonelo.”

On the day there was also an open Studio of Jasmin Bakari, a Zanzibar up and coming artist who was at Nafasi for one month. A group of young phot ographers from Dar es Salaam had their exhibition titled “Striti za Bongo” which was a collection of photos about everyday life in Dar es Salaam as well as New year celebrations at Coco Beach.

WIKIENDI LIVE! Is a quarterly event organized by Nafasi Art Space in Dar es Salaam together with CHAPCHAP interactive art fairs, with artistic and programming support from the Tanzania Heritage Project.
