SERENGETI NAMED BEST NATIONAL PARK AT WORLD TRAVEL AWARDS

Serengeti has once more bagged the top ‘Africa’s Leading National Park 2022,’ Award. Serengeti National Park was declared winner in the just released World Travel Awards results for the African Continent announced during the WTA Gala held in Nairobi City. As it happens, Serengeti has been winning the ‘Leading National Park’ Award in the WTA for four times consecutively. Serengeti was also the WTA winner in 2021 and previously also in 2020 as well as in 2019. This Tanzania’s third largest park is famous for the annual Wildebeests Migration. It is also the first National Park to be established in the country after being upgraded from Game Reserve in 1959. Tanzania boasts 22 National Parks as of now. The Serengeti National Park is also one of the seven World Heritage Sites in Tanzania. The endless plains are home to more than 2 million ungulates, 4000 lions, 1000 leopards, 550 cheetahs, innumerable hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, rare rhinos, gazelles and some 500 bird species.

ZANZIBAR IS THE LEADING BEACH DESTINATION IN AFRICA

Zanzibar Islands of Tanzania has managed to retain title as Africa’s leading beach destination in the 2022 World Travel Awards. The popular archipelago comprising of Unguja and Pemba Isles that are floating on the Indian Ocean was also the winner of same award during the 2021 WTA results. When it comes to beach tourism in Tanzania, all visitors seem to prefer Zanzibar Islands compared to the mainland coastline cutting through Tanga, Dar-es-salaam all the way down to Mtwara. Apparently, two Islands of Tanzania won accolades in the 2022 World Travel Awards. The Thanda Island also on the Indian Ocean waters of Tanzania, the 2022 winner of the ‘Africa’s Leading Luxury Island.’ The WTA African Winning entries were announced during the awards winners’ gala ceremony held at Kenyatta International Conference Center in Nairobi. GROUP OF BLACK WOMEN MAKE HISTORIC CLIMB TO MOUNT KILIMANJARO

A group of 14 Black American women, known as Sistahs to the Summit, made history when they conquered Mount Kilimanjaro. The tallest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano located in Tanzania. Fourteen women took the journey to Kilimanjaro, but only 12 made it to the summit. The ladies of Sistahs to the Summit appeared on “CBS Mornings” to discuss the difficulty of the journey and their plans to make history. The women, who are all Black women, range in age from 31 to 53. The majority of the women concurred that walking up the mountain was the most difficult thing they had ever done during a rapid-fire question and answer session. A majority of them gave the yes answer when asked if they wanted to give up. In addition to forming lifelong companions, all 14 ladies agreed—with the exception of two—that they would never do it again.
