ABSTRACT EXERCISE

B A S I C the exercise aimed to develop a sense of new visualization of the spaces seen regularly in an irregular way by distorting it and further composing them to form abstract compositions leading into new three dimensional structural and volumetric compositions.

D E S I G N 2

The brief of the exercise was to sketch three different views and then distort them in different ways. The distorted sketches were then rendered in two different ways, Black - white and two color using their tints and shades. Then the 2D sketches were converted to 3D using various materials and by adding surfaces to them. Then the various forms and spaces were studied and a furniture or an interior space was designed as a final product to the exercise.


CUBE DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE

Cube is a geometry which can be played in a no. of ways to develop a spacial understanding through the volumes and voids created. It helps in developing compositional sense, sense of proportion and most importantly in the third dimension. A cube is a three dimensional solid object bounded by six square faces. It has cubical symmetry.

The brief of the exercise started with the development of three different cubes of dimension 6 x 6 inch. Then each side of the cubes were further divide by making grids and then painted using the grey scale. Then three different models were made creating negative and positive according to the nature of the color, then dibbuk models were made using wire to study the spaces created inside them.


LEAF EXERCISE

Few leaves were selected to make compositions so as there is a sence of continuity and oneness yet leaves retain their identity. The compositions then were analysed and intresting portions were then used for making tile.

Desiring and abstracting the forms obtained by analysing the wire model some more wire models were produced which were then enlarged and covered by some transparent, transluscent and opaque surfaces. The model thus formed was than visualised as a living space and functional analysis was done.

The leaves selected were minutely observed and their wire models were made to understand the primary, secondary and tertiary structures of leaf, the exercise took an intresting form as the wire structures were composed in different ways and were then clicked in the natural and artificial light creating a playful exercise of light

Intresting areas from the composition formed were than enlarged and following the continuity were carried forward to result in tile and their following pair tile.

The exercise initiated with the sketching of various leaves to observe and understand its forms and shapes. Few leaves were than selected and composed in such a way that there was some sense of oneness by following the veins yet each leaf retain its identity in the composition. The exercise was than carry forward by making various wire models and observing them under light. The observations were than extended by sketching the forms out of the model deriving in three dimensional understanding of spaces.
