i Profile
Darren Cranmer is an artist, illustrator and designer based in the sunny Channel Islands and the UK. His artwork springs from a place where surreality and reality collide and metamorphose into expressive narratives with multiple layers of connotation and a symbolic undertone. The work is usually crafted in graphite and mixed mediums with the occasional digital and photo-collage combination. Darren enjoys expanding meaning, subjects and reflective thought into imagery. Darren completed a BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at UCA Canterbury in 2007 followed by a BA (Hons) degree in Illustration at the Arts University Bournemouth graduating in 2011. Since then, Darren has been freelancing in editorial and commercial illustration, private art commissions and exhibitions, and design work in the UK and the Channel Islands. He also is a co-founder, co-designer and co-creator of Niche - a Channel Island arts showcase independent organisation.
Fussed Magazine - Dave Garraway
“He manages to get so much detail and texture into the piece that you almost take for granted that it’s a pencil illustration.” Apple Juice Magazine - Natalie Lloyd
“The body of work is an intelligent and well-researched discourse, but moreover, the images Cranmer has created offer a quiet sense of grandeur and simplicity, providing a delectable echo to their subject matter.” Amelia’s Magazine
“Illustration style is sublimely delicate and atmospheric.”
