Working Experiences From Urban Design to Architecture Design Projects
02 PREFACE Before introducing my portfolio, I need to elaborate on the expression and concepts of my design projects. First of all, I will talk about the techniques on the Grid System. I will stress the concept of the transformation of dualism in architecture and exercise the concept of the Grid System to replace the concept of the contrary phase in dichotomy. According to my understanding, space does not fit the concept of dualism. Space should be an inseparable idea of mobility and diversity. Therefore, I used the two elements of continuity and changeability in the Grid System to replace the previous theory of dualism.
Preface
Second of all, I would like to stress in the research the relationship between urban development and environmental issues. The discussion of intermediary and boundary has been brought up recently. When urban or man-made environments are formed, the notion of boundary is magnified. The word “boundary here refers to the barrier created by the construction of buildings or the purposely neglected memory on our subconscious. Therefore, in the projects of my portfolio, I wish to use the idea of intermediary and convert different terms for space design. I intend to utilize the manipulation and philosophy to solve the boundary problems caused by the site and the environment. The most important purpose here is to discuss the relationship between the site and the urban environment in the interests of integrating the buildings in the site.
To me , architecture should not become barriers of connection between humans and the natural environment, and it should not only be treated as buildings. I believe that architecture should be dependent on the environment and should seek opportunities to be inspired and developed from outside of the environment. Therefore, environment plays a major role in my design projects. The projects in this portfolio not only concern design techniques but also stress development of the design concepts and techniques and the relationship of site and environment. In the end, I wish to discover the distinctive value through site analysis and to accelerate the identity of each project.
