Senior Bulletin GREENVILLE — The Greenville Area Senior Citizens Center at 715 S. Baldwin St. is open for card playing at 9 a.m. on Monday and Friday. Bring a sack lunch on Monday. Lunch on Friday is a potluck; bring a dish to pass and your own table service. Meals are at noon sharp. All seniors are invited for good food and fellowship. Bingo is played at 1 p.m. on four Fridays each month and is for members only. Bingo is hosted on the first Friday by members of the senior center, the second Friday is available if a business is interested in supporting the center, the third Friday by BelTone of Greenville and the fourth Friday by Metron of Greenville. The senior center board meets at 10:30 a.m. on the third Friday of the month. On Thursdays, a quilting group meets from 9 a.m. to noon, bridge lessons and play is from 1 to 4 p.m. Bridge is open for beginners and for fun, this is not for the serious player. Both activities are open to the public. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets from 5 to 7 p.m. New members are always encouraged to attend this support group. A Parkinson’s Support Group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. It is free to all and the public is welcome. Euchre is played at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Bridge is played at 1 p.m. on Thursdays. The public is welcome. Greenville Area Senior Citizens Center is open to everyone. Memberships are available. Dues for 2014 are $15 a year. Commission on Aging Senior Center STANTON — The Montcalm County Commission on Aging Senior Center, 613 N. State St., Stanton, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meals are served at noon. See the Food With Friends menu below. All seniors and/or spouses of seniors 60 and older are invited for lunch and socializing. A $2.50 donation for the meal is appreciated but not required. Pre-registration for meals is required a week in advance. A variety of activities are offered throughout the week, including crafts, cards, music, coffee hour, presentations and various classes. The Montcalm Travelers has a trip to St. Ignace Kewadin Casino from April 30 to May 1. The trip includes deluxe coach transportation, hotel room, $20 cash, $10 food coupon, breakfast buffet and luggage service. Single occupancy costs $155, double occupancy is $111 and is due by registration of March 23. Registrations and payments can be made by calling (989) 831-7476. Montcalm Travelers presents exploring Petoskey and surrounding area May 18 to 20. Guests will stay at the Perry Hotel. Day one will include a trip to Indian River to visit the Cross in the Woods and lunh at The Greenside Grill. Following lunch is a tour of the Michigan Fisheries Visitors Center in Oden. A historic themed dinner will be served in the evening at the Perry Hotel. Day two will include a hot breakfast buffet with a guided tour of Petoskey Bay View and Harbor Springs. The day also will include shopping in Harbor Springs and a trip to The General Store in Good Hart. Dinner will be served at the Bay View Inn with choices of pasta primavera, chicken dijon or whitefish with capers. Day three includes hot breakfast buffet and returning to Montcalm County with stops in Boyne City. The Alzheimer’s Association of West Michigan is offering a
Anniversary three week presentation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 18, 25 and April 1 at the Greenville Area Senior Center. Week one will feature Karen Foley RN, LMSW of Mercy Health Hauenstien Neuroscience Center. Foley will discuss understanding Alzheimer’s and other dementias, tips for getting a diagnosis and current information on treatment and research developments. Week two will feature Caroline Dellenbusch, Elder Law Attoenry regarding legal and financial issues. Dellenbusch will discuss tips for making financial and medical decisions on behalf of a person with dementia and planning for future care needs — understanding Medicare, Medicaid and veterans benefits. Week three will feature Joy Spahn, regional director of Alzheimer’s Association — Greater Michigan Chapter. Spahn will cover strategies for navigating the dementia journey including tips for successfully interacting with a person with dementia, practical solutions to the daily challenges of caring for someone with memory loss. Admission is free, but a $10 per family is a suggested donation. Reserve a spot by calling (616) 459-4558. Montcalm Community College will be offering courses on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning February. The classes are designed to provide continuing education for people working in home health care or long term facilities and also help families taking care of loved ones.
