Obituaries GREENVILLE — Thelma M. Goodwin, 100, of Greenville, passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 26, 2015, at Metron of Belding. The daughter of Charles and Lucinda (Dickinson) Waldron, she was born on June 5, 1914, in Greenville. Thelma was a lifetime resident of Greenville and a founding member of Greenville Bible Methodist Church (formerly Wesleyan Thelma Goodwin Pilgrim Church). She loved to write poetry and was known for her wonderful poems. Thelma was also skilled in the art of sewing and crocheting. In September 1934, she married the love of her life, Wilbur Goodwin, and together they raised their five children and enjoyed 42 years of marriage. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur; a daughter, Naomi Rupert; son-in-law, Art Buckley; a daughterin-law, Rose Goodwin, and a great-granddaughter, Melissa. Thelma was a wonderful loving mother, grandma, great-grandma and sister. She will be missed by her sons, Gilbert (Joan) Goodwin of California, David Goodwin of Greenville, Daniel Goodwin of Rockford; and daughter, Alice Buckley of Ovid. Also surviving are a half sister, Maxine Rhoads; 11 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin St., Greenville, where funeral services will be 11 a.m. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held at Greenville Bible Methodist Church. Alice B. Lance, 101
LAKEVIEW — Alice B. Lance, 101, of Belding, formerly of Lakeview, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at Metron of Belding. Alice was born May 26, 1913, in Lakeview, the daughter of Clarence and Minnie Lickert Field. Alice traveled with her parents and grew up all over as her father was a lumberman. Alice graduated from McBride in 1931. Alice Alice married the love of Lance her life, Kenneth Lance on June 13, 1931, in Greenville. They settled in McBride to raise their family. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1975. She enjoyed crochet, housework and babysitting. Alice was employed by the drug store and dime store Moblo’s in Lakeview, as a waitress at Ellafrits Restaurant and as a clerk for a fry cleaners. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lance; parents, Clarence and Minnie Field; three sisters, Hazel Sheppard, Cornelia and Sylvia Field; two brothers, Ralph and Glenn Field; and two sisters-inlaw, Dorothy and Ruth Field. Alice will be deeply missed by two daughters, Donna Olsen of Lakeview, and Helen (Donald) Mason of Belding; three granddaughters, Judy Beaver of Escanaba, Pamela Lenon of Remus, and Debbie Gay of Greenville; one grandson, Steve Mason of Belding; one brother, Earl Field of St. Louis, Mich,; seven great-grandchildren; 16 greatgreat-grandchildren, and many nieces, and nephews. A funeral service for Alice will be 3 p.m. Thursday at New Life United Methodist Church in Six Lakes, with Pastor Dave England officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. A luncheon will be at New Life United Methodist Church following the committal service. Memorial contributions in Alice’s memory may be made to Metron of Belding. Arrangments entrusted to Brigham Funeral Chapel, Lakeview.

GREENVILLE — Two students from Greenville Middle School were named local winners in the 46th annual America & Me Essay Contest sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. First place was Alexis Rush and second place was Elena Silos Morales. Both students received award certificates for their achievement. As the school’s first place winner, Rush’s name will be engraved on a plaque for permanent display in the school. Rush’s essay advances to the state level competition, from which the top 10 essays in Michigan will be selected. The top 10 statewide winners, who will be announced in April, will each receive a plaque, medallion and a cash
