Welcome to the 2012 Calgary Stampede! This year marks the Calgary Stampede Centennial – and we are celebrating like never before. Our theme for 2012 is “We’re Greatest Together” and we really mean it! We have invited the world to come and help us celebrate 100 years of the Calgary Stampede – and we hope you can be a part of it! We expect many guests so please use this planner to plan ahead and make the most of your visit. As always, we’ll have exciting rides, great food and fantastic entertainment, but this year we are doing it on an even bigger scale!

BIG FOUR

We’ll also have more bands and concerts than ever before – including some of the biggest names in music today. This year’s ENMAX Corral Show is Tails – the story of the first Stampede through the eyes of three young horses. The horses become separated and take three different paths through life – only to be reunited at the 1912 Calgary Stampede. This show runs three times daily and is included in your gate admission. Tails will only run in 2012 and is a special Centennial thank you to our guests.

BMO CENTRE, SHOPPING AND WESTERN LIVING

We’re also pleased to present an all-new TransAlta Grandstand Show – Century – featuring country superstar Paul Brandt. Century is a fast-paced show dominated by popular songs from the past 100 years and builds to an amazing fireworks finale. And for six nights this Stampede, we will be home to Canada’s largest fireworks display as we light up the city with the help of TransAlta and our community partners. We will be setting off synchronized fireworks in all quadrants of the city and the central Stampede Park location. If you haven’t been to the Stampede in a while, this is the year to attend. I would like to personally invite everyone to come down and see what we have in store for you this year. It is going to be our biggest and best Stampede ever and you don’t want to miss a second of the fun! We know that we are at our best when we all come together to celebrate. Let’s turn 100 together!

Investing in great traditions.

In the business of delivering energy, we connect with many special places. Places rich with character and history. Places generous with people and lessons learned. Places defined as much by an unwritten code of conduct as by the remarkable scenery. These foothills have taught us about integrity and respect. That’s why we’re giving back through the Calgary Stampede Foundation’s Citizens of Tomorrow Program. It's a program dedicated to keeping alive the timeless western Canadian values so needed in a modern world. There’s a unique energy that comes out of local events and traditions. Energy that stems from the power of community spirit and from bringing people together. To those who contribute to the making of strong, vibrant communities, we thank you. Cenovus Energy. A Canadian oil company.

In every community we serve, we learn that how we do business is as important as what we do. These lessons have made us one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World.

Congratulations on 100 years of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

DID YOU KNOW... • The three main stars of the show are horses – not humans. Liberte, Ipaki Pii, and Travesio. • In addition to the three heroes of the show, there are more than 35 horses in this production. That requires a lot of hay to keep them all fed! • During Stampede we will use approximately 745 bales of hay to feed the horses in the show which, if laid end to end, would stretch the length of nine football fields! • The amount of dirt used during the 10 days of the show is approximately 800 cubic yards. Enough to fill 32 swimming pools! • Each horse has their own blanket, special mixture of food, horse shoes, and spot in the barn– “special perks” like those specified by rock stars!

Something REALLY BIG is happening in the Northern Lights Arena

This year, Draft Horse Town has pulled together every draft horse, teamster, and piece of vintage equipment they could find, then added some fine storytelling and entertainment to create THE BIG SHOE.

Twice daily – at 1 & 5 p.m. – Draft Horse Town brings the story of the mighty draft horse and the significant role it played in building Western Canada. Witness the gentle giants in action as they show how their own equine ancestors helped build roads, hauled dirt and rock from building sites, pulled wagons, carriages and firefighting equipment, and plowed the fields for planting crops. Following each show, the “stars” – Belgians, Clydesdales, and Percherons – will be in Draft Horse Town posing for photos and meeting their adoring fans. Come and get nose-to-nose with the largest horses you’ll find at this year's Stampede.

The big boys and girls of the equine world ramp up the pomp and ceremony, with special performances featuring live musical scores by members of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Animal C ar e

During the annual Calgary Stampede, more than 7,500 animals will participate in exhibition, education and competition events. We take the care of these animals very seriously, so we’re proud to be recognized by independent observers for our leading, progressive and responsible approach to animal care.

Made in Calgary

Animal Care

We believe passionately that the wellbeing of animals participating in events at the Calgary Stampede must be safeguarded. We are confident that our progressive approach to animal care is appreciated by the millions of Calgarians, Canadians and international visitors who are fans of the Calgary Stampede and what it represents.

68

Throughout the year we consult with the Calgary Humane Society, Alberta SPCA and a range of veterinary advisors. These animal welfare partners have been instrumental in helping us each year find new ways to enhance our practices. The Calgary Humane Society and Alberta SPCA have unfettered access to Stampede Park – both organizations are empowered by the Province to enforce Alberta’s Animal Protection Act. We also work closely with an Animal Care Advisory Panel, a group of independent experts who help us identify new ways to enhance animal care.

DID YOU KNOW... • There are over 350 breeds of horses. • The age of a horse is determined by the front (incisor) teeth. During their lifetime a horse will have two complete sets of teeth, milk teeth and permanent teeth. Horses will have lost all their milk teeth by the age of five. • A horse cannot see directly in front of itself because of the placement of their eyes. • Draft horses eat about 75 pounds of food per day (twice as much as other horses). • The pigeons in the Pigeon Races fly 80.5 km/h and during Stampede fly the equivalent of flying 6.25 times to Ottawa.

· Quality · Fit · Selection & Service ·

• Most bucking broncs end up working a total of five minutes in their entire lifetime.
