Beetroot Sambar Recipe

Fenugreek seeds powder

Step - 1

The Process To Make Beetroot Sambar Recipe

Wash and clean the toor dal and then add it into the pressure cooker along with a pinch of turmeric powder and water (2 cups). Cook it for around 3 to 4 whistles or until the dal becomes soft. In a bowl soak tamarind along with warm water for around 15 minutes and then extract paste from it. Take a pan and heat the oil. Then add green chillies and saute them for around a minute.

The Process To Make Beetroot Sambar Recipe

Now, add tomatoes, salt and beetroot. Saute them for 4 5 minutes or till the vegetables cook properly. Close the pan using a lid and continue to cook the vegetables. Once beetroot is 50% cooked, then add coriander powder, chilli powder and salt. Mix well and cook for few minutes till the oil begin to separate. Time to add cooked dal with beetroot and bring the boil in the mixture.

The Process To Make Beetroot Sambar Recipe

Now, add tamarind paste, fenugreek seeds powder and asafoetida powder and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on medium flame. Meanwhile, roast the grated coconut in a pan until brown. Heat oil in another pan and add mustard seeds, shallots, dry red chillies, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Pour this seasoning into the sambar along with roasted coconut. Beetroot sambar is ready. Serve hot.
