In this month’s article we look at a small SUV going on sale from next Spring and changes to the using your mobile phone whilst driving.
2022 Toyota Aygo X small SUV – this is the Aygo X small SUV, a bit wider and taller, than the Aygo model which it replaces. Toyota has certainly given the car a suitably aggressive look, helped by flared wheel arches and larger alloy wheels. There will be an incresed boot size enough to carry a couple of arry-on suitcases.Engine wise it will feature a 1.0-litre 71bhp petrol engine economical enough to do 60mpg. Standard kit will include 17in alloy wheels and a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. On sale in spring 2022 prices are expected to be around £16,000.
2022 Volkswagen T-Roc small SUV – this is the updated Volkswagen T-Roc small SUV which has aggressive looks and an imposing road presence. From the outside, the updated T-Roc has received a suite of minor styling tweaks, including an LED light bar running the length of the grille. Inside, the traditional instrument cluster has been replaced with an 8.0in display on all models, which can be upgraded to 10.3in which includes features such as wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connections, as well as an in-car wi-fi hotspot. Engine option remain the same with 3 petrol (ranging from 1.0 to 2.0-litre) and 2 diesel (both 2.0-litre) to choice from. On slae from Spring 2022 prices can be expected to start from £26,000.
Tougher penalties for using your mobile phone – drivers will face fines of up to £200 and could receive up to six penalty points if they’re caught using their phones – and not just if they’re using them to make calls. It will also apply to playing games, taking photos or videos, or scrolling through music playlists while driving. The highway code will be brought up-to-date and adjusted to explain the new measures, and it will also be made clear that hand-held mobile phone use at traffic lights or in traffic jams is illegal. This will come into effect from next year.
