In this month’s article we look at trend going strong into 2022 and beyond – electric is here to stay – including a futuristic electric vehicle.
2023 Mercedes Vision EQXX electric car – this concept car is simply stunning! Its a luxurious four-door coupé with a swept-back, low-slung appearance, with a tapered rear end and large air intakes in the corners of its front bumper.This promies to have the longest distance electric car range so far at 620 miles. The Vision EQXX will be powered by a single electric motor developing around 201bhp, with energy fed from a battery with a usable capacity of less than 100kWh. Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a huge, 47.5in screen running the width of the car with 8K resolution display. When it goes on sale in late 2023 it is estiomated to cost around £110,000.
2022 Volkswagen ID.5 electric SUV – this new ID.5 is an SUV with a swooping roofline of a coupé, and is fully electric. There’ll be a single battery option available, with a 77kWh usable capacity, which can take you up to 323 miles – which is longer than its rivals. The entry-level model is powered by a single 172bhp electric motor and the optional performance model able to deliver 201bhp. Charging to 80% of capacity can take less than half an hour if you can find a charging point providing the high rate of 135kW, and of course a typical home wallbox will take considerably longer. Inside, every ID.5 gets a small digital instrument panel and a 12.0in infotainment touchscreen, with the latter angled slightly towards the driver. Available from Spring 2022 prices will start from £47,000.
2022 Vauxhall Astra – this is the 8th generation of the popular family car with a twist, as it has a radical front end with the front grille stretched the full width of the car, with the headlights incorporated within it. On the inside, you’ll find two 10.0in digital displays placed side by side; one shows instrumentation and the other is a touchscreen for infotainment functions. It won’t come fully electric but with plug-in hybrids which combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor. When it’s on sale in early 2022 prices will start £22,000.
