In this month’s article we look at a range of new hybrids models available from later this year including a new re-branded van.

2022 Lexus NX revealed – this is the all-new Lexus NX SUV, the first Lexus car as a plug-in hybrid. Its looks are based on the current NX with a taster of of the next generation Lexus models. On the inside there is a greater sense of space with a asymmetrical centre touchscreen console up to 14 inches, based on the trim you choose, which is compatible with Apple and Android for smartphone mirroring as standard. At launch you’ll get a choice of models NX350h and the NX450h+, the former is a conventional petrol-hybrid option and the later a fully plug-in hybrid version – allowing 39 miles on only electric power. This is at the top end mile range compared to competitors. All versions of the car will come with an improved automatic emergency braking (AEB) system that offers quicker responses. Prices are expected to start from around £40,000 and will be annouced before sales commence in November 2021. 2021 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe revealed – this is the new four-door 4 Series promises enhanced handling and more economical mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines. Its look features dramatic styling, more agile handling and head-turningly huge front grilles. Three petrol and three diesel engines will be available – from the 2.0 litre turbocharged 181bhp version to the range-topping 3.0 litre 369bhp for both. An M4 version is expected in 2022. On the inside BMW have kept the rotary dial controller with the infotainment system. Standard equipment on all UK models includes 18in alloy wheels and M Sport suspension and spoiler, along with M Sport styling details in and out. Available from November 2021 prices will be confirmed closer to the time but expected to start from around £40,000. 2022 Volkswagen Multivan revealed – this new Volkswagen Multivan will replace the Caravelle people carrier and combines plug-in hybrid power with a bold new design. The name change represents the brand new design and the complete overhaul of its predecessor with an offer of a plug-in hybrid variant called the eHybrid. The eHybrid engine set-up will offer a 148bhp 1.4 litre petrol engine alongside a separate 114bhp electric motor expected to provide around 20 miles range just on the battery power. A choice of 1.5 or 2.0 petrol engines will also be available at launch. Along with the mechanical revisions, the seven-seater also features an all-new exterior design that blends styling highlights with stylistic cues. There will be 3 rows of seating with the 2nd row being able to be spun round to create a social seating arrangement. The 5 seats from the 2nd and 3rd rows can be completely removed too to transform it into a van. There is a range of advanced safety technology, including road-sign recognition, lane assist and automatic emergency braking. On sale in 2022 the prices are not known but expected to be above £50,000.
