REGULAR SEASON FINALE UNDER THE LIGHTS OF SCULLY-FAHEY ▶ FRIDAY’S GAME Dartmouth will conclude the 2013 regular season with a Friday night match-up against Harvard under the lights of Scully-Fahey Field. The Big Green are already locked into the No. 3 seed for next weekend’s Ivy League Tournament in Philadelphia, but look to enter the postseason on a high note. ▶ LAST TIME OUT In front of a national audience watching on Fox College Sports, the Green dropped a heartbreaker to Princeton, 15-13, last Saturday in Hanover. The loss solidified the No. 3 seed in the Ivy Tournament and will set up a rematch with the Tigers who earned the No. 2 seed with the win. ▶ IVY TOURNAMENT OUTLOOK As mentioned, Dartmouth will be the No. 3 seed and will take on second-seeded Princeton in the first semifinal match-up from Penn’s Franklin Field on Friday, May 3 at 4 p.m. The host Quakers are once again the top seed and will host Cornell in the second game of the day, set for 7 p.m. ▶ SCOUTING HARVARD The Crimson will travel to Hanover for their 11th road game of the 2013 season. The road has not been kind to Harvard so far this year as it is 1-9 away from Cambridge and just 2-10 overall. The team’s 1-4 record in Ivy League play means they will not be a part of the conference postseason after advancing last spring. The Crimson enter the weekend on a six-game losing streak and will play host to last-place Columbia on Sunday in a rescheduled meeting from last weekend. Senior Micaela Cyr leads the team in nearly every statistical category, including goals (29), assists (12) and points (41), while a trio of goalkeepers have seen action throughout.
▶ AGAINST HARVARD These two met in the regular season finale last year as well with Harvard defeating Dartmouth, 7-5, and ending the Big Green’s hopes of hosting the Ivy League Tournament. The Crimson have won the last two meetings, including a conference semifinal match-up in 2011, edging out the Green and White, 11-10.

▶ ANOTHER THREE Senior Hana Bowers continues to build on her career year with another three goals and four points against Princeton last weekend. She now has a career-high 47 points this season, nearly matching her total output from her first three seasons in Hanover (58). She needs just three more points to become the first Dartmouth player to reach 50 points in a season since Greta Meyer ’10 accomplished the feat as a senior in 2010. ▶ 99 AND COUNTING Junior goalkeeper Kristen Giovanniello needs just one more ground ball to reach 100 for her career. She currently has 31 this season after posting figures of 35 and 33, respectively, each of her first two years. She will become the second player this year to reach the mark after senior Kelsey Johnson surpassed the figure earlier this spring. ▶ BRING THAT FIGURE DOWN In each of the last two outings, the Green have posted their fewest turnover figures of the season. Against Maryland, Dartmouth turned the ball over just eight times, a number it bested by three against Princeton, committing a season-low five against the Tigers.

▶ RAPID GROWTH After playing in just three games as a freshman and scoring just one goal, sophomore Sarah Byrne has come on strong in 2013. She has played in all but one game and ranks third on the team in both points (21) and goals (18). Against Princeton, the second-year attacker set a new career high with three goals and matched her best single-game point total of three as well. ▶ DOUBLE UP Last time out, five players scored multiple goals for the Green led by the hat tricks from Bowers and Byrne. Juniors Liz Calby and Lindsey Allard as well as senior Courtney Bennett each netted a pair, while freshman Gabby Starkey was the lone player to score just once in the loss. ▶ SENIOR DAY Following the conclusion of Friday night’s game, seven members of the team will be honored for their contributions to the program over the last four years. Bennett, Bowers, Johnson, Ellie Clayton, Kyra Hansson, Casey Griffin and Julia Szafman will all be recognized in a postgame Senior Night ceremony.

▶ WHAT’S AHEAD? After Friday, the team will have a week to rest and prepare before making the trip to Philadelphia for the second time this season to take on the field in the 2013 Ivy League Tournament. Dartmouth and Princeton kick-off the weekend from the City of Brotherly Love on Friday, May 3 at 4 p.m. before Penn and Cornell play the 7 p.m. contest. ▶ FOUR FOR FOUR In just its fourth year, the Ivy League Tournament has become a constant for the Big Green. With Dartmouth securing another berth in the conference postseason, it remains tied with Penn as the only two teams to qualify every year of existence. Princeton and Cornell will be making thier third postseason appearance this year as well. ▶ EARNING AWARDS For their solid outings against Cornell, both Bowers and Giovanniello received weekly accolades form the Ivy League office. Bowers was named the CoOffensive Player of the Week, her second such recognition of 2013. Giovanniello was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and the fifth time in her career. The Big Green’s goalkeeper was also named the DartmouthSports. com Northeast Credit Union Female Athlete of the Week for her strong play against the Big Red. ▶ WHERE WE RANK Dartmouth is not ranked in the IWLCA Coaches’ Poll and 20th in the Inside Lacrosse deBeer Media Poll,

▶ HARVARD • APRIL 26, 2013 ▶HEAD COACH AMY PATTON The 2013 season marks the 21st for head coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth, having led the Big Green to unprecedented success both within the Ivy League and on the national scale. With 209 career wins, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Ivy League championships and four NCAA Final Fours to her credit, Patton is one of the nation’s elite coaches. Beyond Hanover, Patton is an active part of U.S. Lacrosse, having recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Developmental team. Dartmouth has been a model of consistency under Patton, ranked in the IWLCA top-20 during every single season that she has coached and has ranked in the top-10 nationally in 18 of those, including in both 2010, 2011 and 2012. As a program, Dartmouth is one of just five teams to be ranked during every single season since the IWLCA began weekly polls in 1988. In 20 years as Dartmouth’s head coach, Patton owns a 221-103 overall record, 105-30 in Ivy League play, winning nearly 78 percent of Dartmouth’s conference games. Since her arrival in Hanover in 1993, the Big Green has reached double figures in wins 16 times and advanced past the NCAA first round seven times. Patton’s teams are no strangers to perfection, five times winning the Ivy League unbeaten, most recently in 2005. From 1997-2001, Dartmouth won 22 consecutive Ancient Eight contests, en route to threestraight 7-0 championship seasons. Dartmouth’s defense has ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense seven times since 2002, including leading the nation in that category in 2006. In 2012, Patton and the Big Green finally won the Ivy League Tournament Championship, taking down top-seeded Penn, 6-4, in the title game. The Green
held the Quakers without a goal for 44 minutes to complete the comeback win two days after knocking off Cornell in a thrilling 9-8 game. In winning the crown, Dartmouth would advance to its 13th NCAA Tournament and the 12th since Patton took control of the program. Patton’s 19th season at the helm (2011) was a special one in which Dartmouth won its 11th Ivy League Championship and made its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance. Ranked as high as 10th nationally during the season, it marked a true return to glory for the Big Green, which had not won an Ivy title since 2005 and had not been to the postseason since 2006. Dartmouth also knocked off previously unbeaten No. 1 Maryland on May 1, snapping the Terps’ 28-game winning-streak and becoming the first team other than North Carolina to beat Maryland since 2008. Patton’s efforts have not gone unrewarded on a personal level. She was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 1998, was one of three finalists for that honor in 1993 — her first season at the helm — and has been the Northeast Region’s Coach of the Year three times (1994, 1995, 1998). One of the most recognized names in college women’s lacrosse, Patton is a prominent member of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was vice president of the IWLCA for two years. Most recently, Patton headed the Brine All-America selection committee and has served on the Tewaaraton Trophy selection committee. Patton was a U.S. Squad selector in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008. She was also a member of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee and assistant coach for the U.S. National Developmental team in 1998-2000. Patton served as head coach of the developmental squad from 2006-09. Prior to her appointment as head coach at Dartmouth, Patton served as an assistant to former coach and athletics director Josie Harper from 1991-92. Patton served as an assistant for the University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team during the 1990 season. Patton is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As an athlete, Patton was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and field hockey, earning All-America and All-ACC accolades. She was a member of Maryland’s 1986 NCAA national championship lacrosse team and earned the Terps’ scholar-athlete award.
