NORTH COUNTRY FOES MAKE TRIP TO HANOVER THIS WEEKEND ▶ THIS WEEKEND The Dartmouth men’s hockey team returns to Thompson Arena this weekend to take on St. Lawrence and Clarkson in Friday and Saturday night match-ups. Both games are set for 7 p.m. puck drops. ▶ LAST TIME OUT The Big Green split last weekend on the road with a 4-2 win at Brown before falling to Yale Saturday night in New Haven by the same score. The team held a lead for much of the game with the Bears, while spending a majority of the contest with the Bulldogs battling back to try and even the score, coming up just short in the end. ▶ WHERE WE RANK THIS WEEK The loss at Yale dropped the Green down one spot in the USCHO poll to No. 12 and two spots in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll to No. 13. The current placement in the latter rankings is the lowest for the team since cracking the top-20 in early November. ▶ 4 GOALS, 4 WAYS Against Brown, Dartmouth scored four goals in four different ways from four different players. Tim O’Brien scored an even-strength goal, Matt Lindblad scored shorthanded, Eric Robinson registered a marker on the power play and Brandon McNally added an empty-netter.
▶ LEADING AGAIN Robinson’s power-play marker 1:27 into the second period at Meehan Auditorium was his first goal since the opening minutes of the third period on Nov. 16 at Colgate. Despite the twomonth goalless stretch, Robinson’s marker on Friday night in Providence was his team-leading ninth of 2012-13.

▶ SCOUTING THE SAINTS - After five meetings in 2011-12, Friday night’s game is the first of 2012-13 for Dartmouth and St. Lawrence. The Saints make the trip to Hanover with a 9-10-3 overall mark, but just a 2-5-3 record in league games. With just the seven points in ECAC Hockey action, the team is tied with Colgate for 10th in the standings. In its lone game last weekend, the Saints played to a 3-3 tie with rival Clarkson on the road in Potsdam. - Despite the below .500 record, St. Lawrence has the most dynamic offensive talents in the league as junior Greg Carey (14-16-30) and senior Kyle Flanagan (11-18-29) are the two top point-producers in ECAC Hockey. - Matt Weninger has played 97.1% of the time in the St. Lawrence net this year, leading the league in saves (620), shots faced (681) as well as goals allowed (81), while posting a 2.82 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.

14 IVY AND 2 ECAC TITLES
▶ AGAINST THE SAINTS These two teams played two conference games a year ago with the visitors winning each. The Saints claimed the 2011 Ledyard Classic title with a shootout win over the Big Green after the two played to a 2-2 non-conference draw on New Year’s Eve. In the postseason match-up in Canton, Dartmouth swept St. Lawrence with two wins at Appleton Arena, the first time the Saints failed to win at least one playoff game in a home series since the arena opened in 1951. ▶ SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS - Clarkson is struggling this year with just four wins in 22 games played (4-12-6). However, three of those four victories have come against league foes as the 3-5-2 mark has the Golden Knights tied for eighth in the standings. The 3-3 tie with the Saints last Saturday night at home snapped a five-game losing streak that dated back to midDecember for the team. Half of Clarkson’s wins season have come at the expense of their rivals from Canton as they are 2-0-1 (including a nonconference win) against SLU. - Offensively, the team is led by junior Allan McPherson and his 17 points (4-13-17). A trio of players has scored a team-leading seven goals as well, with Pat Megannety adding seven helpers for second on the team in scoring with 14 points. - Greg Lewis has stepped up to fill the void in goal left by the graduation of Paul Karpowich following last year. Lewis has played more than 85% of the time in goal and is 4-10-5 with a .903 save percentage and a 2.80 GAA. ▶ AGAINST CLARKSON Last season, the home team won both contests in the match-up between Clarkson and Dartmouth. The 4-0 win by the Golden Knights on Nov. 18, 2011 still remains the last time the Big Green were shutout in a game, a run that has reached 43 straight games entering the weekend.
▶ POTENT IN PROVIDENCE Knocking off the Bears in their home rink is nothing new to the Green and White. Dartmouth has not lost at Meehan to any opponent since Feb. 22, 2007, a streak of 5-0-1 in that time (Oct. 26, 2012 – T, 2-2 vs.Yale). ▶ LATE FOR LAST Last season, the final two ECAC Hockey teams yet to appear on the Big Green schedule were RPI and Union on Jan. 6-7, nearly three weeks before the last two teams appear on this year’s slate of games. ▶ ONE MONTH AND 10 GAMES FEWER By knocking off Brown Friday, Jan. 18, the Big Green won their 10th game of the season in their 17th outing. Last year, Dartmouth also won its 10th game of the season at Brown, but with that victory coming on Feb. 18 in the 27th overall team contest. ▶ FASTEST TO 10 Winning 10 games in 17 overall tries this season is the second fastest occurrence to reach double-digit wins in the last 13 years. The 200809 team won its 10th in the 16th try (10-6-0). The 2012-13 and 2010-11 Big Green squads both posted 10-5-2 marks in doing so. ▶ UNDER 3 When allowing teams to score three or fewer goals this season, Dartmouth is 9-3-2. In contrast, when surrendering four or more in a contest, the Big Green are just 1-3-0, including the loss at Yale on Jan. 19.

▶ ST. LAWRENCE AND CLARKSON • JAN. 25-26, 2013 ▶ STREAKING Assists on power-play goals from Eric Robinson at Brown and Eric Neiley at Yale, sophomore Tyler Sikura continued to push his scoring streak to 10 straight games with at least a point. After a three-point night in Providence, Lindblad saw his scoring stretch end at nine games with nothing on the scoresheet at Ingalls. ▶ HOME AGAIN The road has not been kind to Dartmouth in 2012-13. The team is just 2-5-1 away from Hanover this season with both victories coming at Meehan. ▶ TAKE MORE PENALTIES Despite being one of the least penalized teams in the nation (9.4, 55th) and with one of the best penalty kills (90.9%, 3rd), Dartmouth may want to take more penalties moving forward. When the Big Green are called for the same number or more infractions than their opponents, they are 9-1-0. When called for fewer penalties, Dartmouth is just 1-5-2 this season. ▶ PLAY THE THIRD LIKE THE FIRST TWO The Green are a combined +17 in goal differential in the first and second periods (4023) this season, while a -1 in the third period (17-18). They are also a -1 in three OT games. ▶ JUMP UP IN THE PLAY Sophomore Rick Pinkston became the first Dartmouth defender to score a goal in 2013 when he banged home a rebound in the final
minute of the second period at Ingalls. It was his second of the season and the first since Nov. 24 at Boston College. Freshman Ryan Bullock’s first career marker 11:19 into the first period against UNH on Dec. 30 was the last time a Big Green defender netted a goal.

His .938 home save percentage ranks fourth best in the league. - Sikura also likes playing at Thompson. Of 24 total points this season, 16 have come in the team’s nine home games. That is the secondbest total of any player in the conference, trailing only Colgate’s Robbie Bourdon (17). No one in ECAC Hockey has more assists on home ice than Sikura’s 11.

▶ ST. LAWRENCE AND CLARKSON • JAN. 25-26, 2013 ▶GAUDET’S CAREER
Head Coach
BOB GAUDET ’81 Now in his 16th season as head coach of the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey program, Bob Gaudet has firmly established himself in the lore of this century-old program. A 1981 Dartmouth graduate and four-year member of the varsity hockey team, Gaudet has made the Big Green one of the most consistent teams in both ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League during his time behind the bench. In the last two seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11 and eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12. In 24 seasons as a head coach, including the last 15 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and nine total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL. Entering the 2012-13 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 219 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. Gaudet’s .507 winning percentage (219-212-54) is the third-best mark at Dartmouth as well. In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J. At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from the 2000-01 season to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-132 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and has a Dartmouth record of 219-212-54 (Entering this year). The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth
its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year Award. Gaudet has now had two Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction. After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 1997-98 campaign. Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ’91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ’95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ’01, third in ’05 and was tied for first in 2006-07. In the summer of 1990, Gaudet served as the assistant coach of the East Team in the Olympic Sports Festival, held in Minneapolis. In 1994, he served again as head coach of the East Team, and also coached the East All-Star Team in the EastWest Shrine College Hockey Classic. Gaudet spent the summer of 1998 behind the bench of the New England Select 16-Team at USA Hockey’s Summer Festival in Ann Arbor, Mich. Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Kelly is a senior at Hanover High School in 2012-13 where she is the starting goalie and co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey team.

▶ IVY LEAGUE UPDATE Dartmouth remains in first in Ivy League standings with a 4-2-1 record and nine points. Yale’s four-point weekend cut the deficit to one as it has eight points on a 4-1-0 record. Dartmouth and Harvard have both played seven Ivy games thus far, two more than any other team. ▶ MEEHAN MAN Sophomore Eric Robinson has five goals in his last four games playing at Brown’s Meehan Auditorium dating back to last season. On Feb. 18, 2011, in Brown’s home finale, Robinson scored twice before adding one in each of the two Ivy Shootout games played there in October. In the Ivy Shootout, he scored the late game-tying goal against Yale and the winner against Brown the following night. He continued the trend with another on Jan. 18, ending his two-month drought. ▶ BEAMING WITH DELIGHT Beamish’s goal against the Crimson was the first game-winner of his career and just his second tally the year. The only other marker Beamish has tallied this season came at Meehan as he netted an empty-net goal to seal the 4-0 victory. ▶ BLIGH BUSTS OUT If Robinson likes scoring at Brown, freshman Nick Bligh likes scoring in front of massive crowds at Thompson Arena. His two goals this season have come against UNH and Harvard, the two largest-attended home games of the season. ▶ BARRE, BRANDON, BLIGH Bligh’s second of the season was the result of nice cycling in the corner by freshman Jack Barre and sophomore Brandon McNally. McNally made the eventual centering pass to Bligh, who finished the play with a wrist shot inside the left post. ▶ FULL HOUSE An announced attendance of 4,381 fans were on hand to see Dartmouth defeat Harvard on Jan. 12, the second-highest home figure of the season for the Big Green. Three times this season, Thompson Arena has seen crowds of more than 4,000: Vermont (4,112), New Hampshire (4,500+) and Harvard (4,318). In all three, the home team has come out on top. Dartmouth’s average attendance of 3,342 is second in ECAC Hockey. ▶ FRIDAY NIGHTS The Big Green are just 3-2-1 this season in Friday night contests. ▶ SATURDAY SUCCESSES The Big Green are 5-3-1 in Saturday games this year.

▶ TOUGH SLATE To date, the Big Green’s schedule has been one of the most difficult in the nation this season. The most current RPI has Dartmouth’s strength of schedule as the sixth-most difficult in the nation, behind only Boston University, Boston College, UNH, UMass and North Dakota. ▶ TEAM MARKS Dartmouth is currently the third-best offensive team in the league, scoring 3.19 goals per game, while its 2.25 allowed a contest is second best. No other ECAC Hockey team is top three in both categories. ▶ “LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD, PLAY GOOD” Words echoed by senior captain Mike Keenan as he led the team out onto the ice against Harvard sporting the team’s new third jersey. A full green shoulder yoke as well as a solid green forearm accompany a new shoulder patch and larger lettering on the newest sweater. The team is 1-0-0 in new uniforms this season. ▶ SETTING UP WINNERS Freshmen Ryan Bullock and Tim O’Brien set up the winner against the visiting Crimson, picking up assists on Beamish’s goal. Sikura has set up more game-winners than any other Dartmouth
player this season with four assists after another last weekend on Robinson’s at Brown. Lindblad has three after last Friday night, while Robinson has two. Nine players have one helper on a winning tally so far in 2012-13. ▶ HOME SWEET HOME For sophomore Eric Neiley, playing at Princeton is a homecoming of sorts. Just 45 minutes from his hometown of Warminster, Pa., Neiley has been stellar in two career games at Hobey Baker Rink, scoring three times. His third of the season got the Big Green off to a 1-0 lead 6:05 into Saturday afternoon’s game. In his lone appearance at Princeton as a freshman in 201112, Neiley scored twice in a 3-3 tie with the Tigers. ▶ UNNOTICED Lost in the shuffle surrounding Dartmouth’s 4-1 win over then-No. 2 New Hampshire on Dec. 30 was that five of the six defensemen dressed that night for the Big Green registered points. Four players had assists and Ryan Bullock picked up his first career goal and point in the win. The lone d-man not to appear on the scoresheet was captain Mike Keenan, the player that leads all Dartmouth defenders in scoring this season with eight points (2g/6a).
