GAME NOTES
SATURDAY’S GAME The Dartmouth women’s lacrosse team finally makes its 2015 home debut Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against No. 10 Princeton at ScullyFahey Field. The contest also marks the start of Ivy League play for both teams.
LAST TIME OUT The Big Green fell to 0-3 overall this season with a 13-7 defeat Wednesday evening at Boston University’s New Balance Field. The Terriers jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold off a much more balanced Dartmouth team in the second half for the non-conference victory. SCOUTING PRINCETON The Tigers begin conference play having won its first three outings of the season, including a pair of 10-8 victories against No. 9 Loyola and at Georgetown with an 8-4 home win against Drexel sandwiched between. Olivia Hompe leads the team in both goals (9) and points (12), while senior Erin McMunn’s five goals and five assists have her eighth all-time at Princeton with 184 career points. A strong defense has Princeton atop the conference rankings, allowing just 6.33 goals per game. The backbone of that defense is goalkeeper Ellie DeGarmmo and her leagueleading .667 save percentage and 5.23 goals against average. AGAINST THE TIGERS Princeton has won the last two regular season match-ups between the two programs, including a 12-10 win in New Jersey last season and a 1513 victory in Hanover in 2013 in a game that was televised on Fox College Sports. Dartmouth’s most recent victory in the series was a 2013 Ivy League semifinal win at Penn’s Franklin Field that ended thanks to a free-position shot from then-senior Hana Bowers with 1:22 left in double overtime. AT THE START OF THE YEAR? The Big Green and Tigers usually meet in one of the final games of the season, but a reversed Ivy League schedule this season sees the two rivals meet to start conference play in 2015. HOME OPENERS In 42 all-time home openers for the program, Dartmouth is 36-5-1. During Amy Patton’s 22 previous seasons on the sidelines, her team is 21-1 in home openers with the lone blemish coming back on 2004 with a 7-6 overtime loss to
No. 12 James Madison. Since then, the team has won its last 10 Hanover debuts. 14 AND COUNTING Junior Jaclyn Leto is finding the back of the net at a tremendous pace this season having scored an Ivy League-best 14 goals in three games. In the Big Green’s first contests games of last season, Leto had just four goals and two assists. She would go on to finish the year with 34 goals in 14 games and earn First-Team All-Ivy honors. A DAY OF FIRSTS The trio of senior Sydney Ellis and freshmen Sophie Davidson and Larson Bennett all notched their first career goals Wednesday at BU. For Davidson and Bennett, the markers came in just their third collegiate games, while Ellis did so in her 24th game wearing the green and white after her role primarily revolved around the defensive end of the field in previous seasons.

ROOKIE BALL Freshmen don’t usually see a tremendous amount of game time especially early on in the season on Patton’s teams as they are eased into the high level of Division I lacrosse. However, in 2015 and in just three games played, six of the seven members of the Class of 2018 have already seen game action with Larson Bennett, Kristen Hinckley and Katie O’Neill seeing time in each contest thus far. FOLLOW ALONG Saturday’s game can be seen live and in HD on the Ivy League Digital Network as can all home games and Ivy league road contests this season. Fans can also follow the action using live stats provided by DartmouthSports.com. Those looking to follow the team on game day can do so by following the team’s Instagram and Twitter accounts (@DartmouthWLAX) and on Facebook. WHAT’S AHEAD? The team will have a bit of a break for exams and academics, returning to action at home on Wednesday, Mar. 18 against regional rival Vermont at 3 p.m.

at BOSTON UNIVERSITY • MARCH 4, 2015 HEAD COACH AMY PATTON The 2014 season was the 22nd for head coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth, having led the Big Green to unprecedented success both within the Ivy League and on the national scale. With 238 career wins, 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Ivy League championships and four NCAA Final Fours to her credit, Patton is one of the nation’s elite coaches. Beyond Hanover, Patton is an active part of U.S. Lacrosse, having recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Developmental team. Dartmouth has been a model of consistency under Patton, ranked in the IWLCA top-20 during every single season that she has coached and has ranked in the top-10 nationally in 18 of those, including in 2010, 2011 and 2012. As a program, Dartmouth is one of just five teams to be ranked during every single season since the IWLCA began weekly polls in 1988. In 22 years as Dartmouth’s head coach, Patton owns a 238-119 overall record, 113-36 in Ivy League play, winning nearly 76 percent of Dartmouth’s conference games. Since her arrival in Hanover in 1993, the Big Green has reached double figures in wins 17 times and advanced past the NCAA first round seven times. Patton’s teams are no strangers to perfection, five times winning the Ivy League unbeaten, most recently in 2005. From 1997-2001, Dartmouth won 22 consecutive Ancient Eight contests, en route to three-straight 7-0 championship seasons. Dartmouth’s defense has ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense seven times since 2002, including leading the nation in that category in 2006. In 2012, Patton and the Big Green finally won the Ivy League Tournament Championship, taking down top-seeded Penn, 6-4, in the title game. The Green held the Quakers without a goal for 44 minutes to complete the comeback win two days after knocking off Cornell in a thrilling 9-8 game. In winning the crown, Dartmouth would advance to its 13th NCAA Tournament and the 12th since Patton took control of the program. The following season (2013) saw the team once again reach the national tournament, defeating BC in the first round for the program’s first NCAA Tourney win since 2006. While the numbers speak volumes for Patton, she is perhaps best known for her abilities as a strategist, teacher, leader and competitor. She is comfortable

Perhaps most important, Dartmouth’s players develop both as athletes and people during their time in Hanover. Since 1993, Patton has coached 33 first team All-Ivy players honored 56 times. Also in that time, Dartmouth boasts 30 All-Americans honored 47 times, including 21 first-team honorees. Patton has mentored five Ivy League Players of the Year, four Ivy Rookies of the Year, a national player of the year and a national defensive player of the year. Two Patton-coached players saw success on the world stage when Wills and Whitney Douthett ’07 helped the United States to the 2009 Lacrosse World Cup Championship in Prague. Wills was named MVP of the championship game. Wills would go on to add another world title to her resume with Team USA in 2013, winning Oshawa, Ontario. Patton’s efforts have not gone unrewarded on a personal level. She was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 1998, was one of three finalists for that honor in 1993 — her first season at the helm — and has been the Northeast Region’s Coach of the Year three times (1994, 1995, 1998). Patton is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As an athlete, Patton was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and field hockey, earning All-America and All-ACC accolades. She was a member of Maryland’s 1986 NCAA national championship lacrosse team and earned the Terps’ scholar-athlete award. Amy resides in Hanover, with her daughter Jaime and twin sons Owen and Aidan.

switching styles to suit the personnel in any given season, and has even done so midyear. Recently, 2010 was one such season as Dartmouth returned to the national top-10, ranking as high as seventh in the IWLCA poll, after knocking off then #8 Notre Dame and #6 Syracuse on the road in a 10-day span. Patton had to adjust the sails for the Big Green, however, when All-America candidate Kat Collins ’11, the star attacker, went down with an injury. She managed to keep the team in stride to continue its nine-game winning streak and run to the inaugural Ivy League Tournament Championship game, for which Collins returned to the lineup. In 2006, after starting the season at 6-4, Dartmouth stirred up the lacrosse world by going on an 8-1 run, storming to the NCAA national championship game. After an epic battle in front of a strong pro-Dartmouth crowd at Boston University’s Nickerson Field, the defending national champion Northwestern got past the Big Green, 7-4.
