GAME NOTES
SATURDAY’S GAME The Dartmouth women’s lacrosse team plays host to Southern California Saturday afternoon at ScullyFahey Field. Game time between the Big Green and Trojans is set for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT Dartmouth dropped a non-conference contest Tuesday at Denver in the first ever game against the Pioneers and the first time ever playing a team from the state of Colorado. The Pios used an 8-2 first-half run to take a 9-5 lead into the intermission before a defensive battle broke out in the second half that eventually resulted in a 13-6 win for the home team. SCOUTING USC The Trojans come to Hanover winners of their last six games after opening the season with an 0-2 mark. After a late-February trip to New York to play Stony Brook and Marist, USC has been at home in Los Angeles for the last five games, including a 20-7 victory against Saint Mary’s on Mar. 20 in its most recent outing. Caroline de Lyra leads the team in both points (34) and assists (18), while her 16 goals are only behind the 21 of both Michaela Michael and Amanda Johansen. In goal, the starter’s spot seems to belong to Gussie Johns as she is the goalie of record in all eight games and owns a 6.62 goals against average and a .347 save percentage. AGAINST THE TROJANS This marks the first all-time meeting between the two programs. VERSUS GOLDEN STATE TEAMS Saturday’s game against USC will be just the fourth contest all-time against a team from California for the Big Green. Dartmouth has played Stanford on three previous occasions in 2004, 2006 and 2008 with the first taking place in Palo Alto. That 2004 contest is the only one of the four to be played in the Golden State with Saturday’s contest against the Trojans set to be the third in Hanover. CLOSING IN ON 100 POINTS With three more goals on Tuesday, junior Jaclyn Leto moved closer to 100 career points as she now has 95 in 40 games played since the start of the 2013 season. With just five more points, Leto will become
the 32nd member of Dartmouth’s 100-point club. Liz Calby reached the figure early in her senior season last spring and is the most recent Big Green player to hit the milestone figure. FROM THE 8-METER ARC Leto was 3-for-4 on the free-position shot at Denver, scoring all of her markers from the 8-meter arc. No other player in the Ivy League has had more success on the FPS this year than Leto as she is 15-for-25. Moreover, no other player in the Ancient Eight has more than eight free-position goals and no other player has more than 15 attempts from the arc to this point.

A FAMILIAR FACE USC features a familiar face on the sidelines as former Dartmouth All-American goalkeeper Devon Wills ’06 (2003-06) is in her third season as an assistant coach for the Trojans. Wills’ 7.14 career goals against average ranks fourth all-time in program history, while her 6.59 mark as a senior and captain in 2006 is the fourth-best single-season mark by a Big Green keeper. She ranks eighth in program history with a .519 career save percentage and led Dartmouth to back-to-back Final Fours in 2005 and 2006, securing a spot in the national championship game in the latter. A FIRST FOR DOLAN Sophomore Kelly Dolan notched the first goal of her collegiate career on Tuesday in Denver. The secondyear midfielder out of Barrington, Rhode Island, found the back of the net just 5:13 into the first half to give Dartmouth an early 2-1 lead. MILESTONE WATCH Jaclyn Leto – 95 Points / 78 Goals / 42 GB / 63 DC Sarah Byrne – 68 Goals / 78 Points / 85 DC Frances Bird – 62 GB / 42 DC Christine Lushefski – 32 GB /22 DC Sydney Ellis – 19 GB Lauren Maiorano – 22 GB / 12 DC
WHAT’S AHEAD? The Big Green will play host to Ivy League rivals Harvard and Cornell next week as part of the team’s three-game homestand that begins with USC. The Crimson come to Hanover for a Wednesday (April 1) game at 4 p.m., while the Big Red are at Scully-Fahey on Saturday (April 4) at 1 p.m.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA • MARCH 28, 2015 HEAD COACH AMY PATTON The 2014 season was the 22nd for head coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth, having led the Big Green to unprecedented success both within the Ivy League and on the national scale. With 238 career wins, 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Ivy League championships and four NCAA Final Fours to her credit, Patton is one of the nation’s elite coaches. Beyond Hanover, Patton is an active part of U.S. Lacrosse, having recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Developmental team. Dartmouth has been a model of consistency under Patton, ranked in the IWLCA top-20 during every single season that she has coached and has ranked in the top-10 nationally in 18 of those, including in 2010, 2011 and 2012. As a program, Dartmouth is one of just five teams to be ranked during every single season since the IWLCA began weekly polls in 1988. In 22 years as Dartmouth’s head coach, Patton owns a 238-119 overall record, 113-36 in Ivy League play, winning nearly 76 percent of Dartmouth’s conference games. Since her arrival in Hanover in 1993, the Big Green has reached double figures in wins 17 times and advanced past the NCAA first round seven times. Patton’s teams are no strangers to perfection, five times winning the Ivy League unbeaten, most recently in 2005. From 1997-2001, Dartmouth won 22 consecutive Ancient Eight contests, en route to three-straight 7-0 championship seasons. Dartmouth’s defense has ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense seven times since 2002, including leading the nation in that category in 2006. In 2012, Patton and the Big Green finally won the Ivy League Tournament Championship, taking down top-seeded Penn, 6-4, in the title game. The Green held the Quakers without a goal for 44 minutes to complete the comeback win two days after knocking off Cornell in a thrilling 9-8 game. In winning the crown, Dartmouth would advance to its 13th NCAA Tournament and the 12th since Patton took control of the program. The following season (2013) saw the team once again reach the national tournament, defeating BC in the first round for the program’s first NCAA Tourney win since 2006. While the numbers speak volumes for Patton, she is perhaps best known for her abilities as a strategist, teacher, leader and competitor. She is comfortable

Perhaps most important, Dartmouth’s players develop both as athletes and people during their time in Hanover. Since 1993, Patton has coached 33 first team All-Ivy players honored 56 times. Also in that time, Dartmouth boasts 30 All-Americans honored 47 times, including 21 first-team honorees. Patton has mentored five Ivy League Players of the Year, four Ivy Rookies of the Year, a national player of the year and a national defensive player of the year. Two Patton-coached players saw success on the world stage when Wills and Whitney Douthett ’07 helped the United States to the 2009 Lacrosse World Cup Championship in Prague. Wills was named MVP of the championship game. Wills would go on to add another world title to her resume with Team USA in 2013, winning Oshawa, Ontario. Patton’s efforts have not gone unrewarded on a personal level. She was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 1998, was one of three finalists for that honor in 1993 — her first season at the helm — and has been the Northeast Region’s Coach of the Year three times (1994, 1995, 1998). Patton is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As an athlete, Patton was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and field hockey, earning All-America and All-ACC accolades. She was a member of Maryland’s 1986 NCAA national championship lacrosse team and earned the Terps’ scholar-athlete award. Amy resides in Hanover, with her daughter Jaime and twin sons Owen and Aidan.

switching styles to suit the personnel in any given season, and has even done so midyear. Recently, 2010 was one such season as Dartmouth returned to the national top-10, ranking as high as seventh in the IWLCA poll, after knocking off then #8 Notre Dame and #6 Syracuse on the road in a 10-day span. Patton had to adjust the sails for the Big Green, however, when All-America candidate Kat Collins ’11, the star attacker, went down with an injury. She managed to keep the team in stride to continue its nine-game winning streak and run to the inaugural Ivy League Tournament Championship game, for which Collins returned to the lineup. In 2006, after starting the season at 6-4, Dartmouth stirred up the lacrosse world by going on an 8-1 run, storming to the NCAA national championship game. After an epic battle in front of a strong pro-Dartmouth crowd at Boston University’s Nickerson Field, the defending national champion Northwestern got past the Big Green, 7-4.
