SCOUTING CLARKSON -.The boys of Potsdam host Dartmouth a week after winning the Shillelagh Tournament at Notre Dame. Clarkson played to a 3-3 tie with Yale in a non-conference game, winning the shootout to advance to the tournament final against the host Irish. The Golden Knights would shutout the hosts, 2-0, en route to taking the title. -.Freshman Jake Kielly was named the NCAA No. 1 Star of the Week and the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week (his third of the year) for his role in helping Clarkson to the title and earning most outstanding player recognition. He stopped 62-of-64 shots on the weekend. -.Clarkson is currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak, going 5-0-2 in that time. - .Freshman Devin Brosseau leads the team in scoring with 14 points on four goals and 10 assists, while a plus-11. Jordan Boucher is second with 13 points with a team-high seven goals. AGAINST THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS -.Dartmouth and Clarkson split last season with each team winning at home. The Big Green had a chance to lock up a first-round bye with a win in the 2015-16 regular season finale played at Cheel, but their comeback bid fell short in a 4-3 loss that saw Dartmouth drop back to No. 7 in the league’s postseason tournament.

SCOUTING ST. LAWRENCE -.The Saints return home for the Dartmouth/Harvard weekend after a week in Ireland for the Friendship Four. SLU officially tied Quinnipiac, 0-0, in the opener, but fell in the exhibition shootout to set up the most emotional thirdplace game in the nation this season. That’s because the Saints took on UMass, coached by former St. Lawrence head coach and alum Greg Carvel who left Canton after the 2015-16 season in favor of Amherst. Although the two teams officially played to a 2-2 tie, SLU’s players got some form of revenge on their former coach with the 2-1 shootout win to take third in Belfast. - .Senior defenseman and Canaan, New Hampshire, native Gavin Bayreuther not only leads the team in points (18) and assists (12), but also reached the 100-point mark in Belfast with a power-play goal in the second period of the game with the Minutemen, his second point of the game after assisting on the Saints’ first tally of the night. His 18 points are tied for third in ECAC Hockey right now and are the most by any non-Union player in the league. -.In goal, junior Kyle Hayton has proven himself to be perhaps the best goaltender in the conference, boasting the most wins (8), the top save percentage (.934) and the most shutouts (3). His 2.10 goals against average is second amongst conference netminders, trailing only Quinnipiac’s Chris Truehl, an opponent he already blanked twice this season. AGAINST THE SAINTS Like Clarkson, Dartmouth and St. Lawrence split the season series last year with the home team picking up the win in each contest. Despite a 39-22 edge in shots on goal, SLU was bested, 4-2, in Hanover on Jan. 15, only to return the favor with a 5-2 win in Canton in the regular season’s penultimate game. MONKEY OFF OUR BACKS Let’s cut to the chase: the power play was not good in the first seven games of the season, going 0-for-43 in that span. However, the team’s confidence with the man-advantage is much higher after two goals on the power play against Robert Morris in the second game of the weekend. Troy Crema scored with the extra player in each of the first two periods and the Big Green finished the afternoon 2-for-5 at PPG Paints Arena. MONKEY OFF THEIR BACKS Troy Crema, Corey Kalk and Daniel Warpecha all celebrated goals on Sunday by pulling the hypothetical monkey off their backs. Crema did so after scoring the team’s first power-play goal of the season, Kalk did it after scoring his first tally since the Cornell game on Nov. 4 and Warpecha did it following his first career goal near the midway point of the second after coming close several times in his first seven games wearing the green and white. THREE-POINT EFFORTS -.Kalk (1-2-3) and Crema (2-1-3) became the first Dartmouth linemates to both record three points in the same game since Jack Barre ’16 (2-1-3) and Kevin Neiley (0-3-3) did so last Jan. 29 in a 7-5 loss to No. 1 Quinnipiac. - .The three-point nights were not career highs for either player as Kalk (2-2-4) had a four-point night against Colgate on Feb. 19 as did Crema (0-4-4) on Nov. 6 against Brown during the 2015-16 campaign. MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH Crema missed out on a bid for his first career hat trick when his bid for the empty net hit the post in the final minute and a half. Sophomore John Ernsting jumped on the puck in the crease and deposited it into the goal for the team’s second ENG of the year. A LOT OF WINNERS - .Crema’s second goal of the day stood up as the game winner against Robert Morris on Sunday, giving him all three of Dartmouth’s GWGs this year. His three winners are tied for the most in ECAC Hockey with RPI’s Jared Wilson and are second nationally behind only Gerald Mayhew of Ferris State (4). -.His three winners are the most by any player in Division I this season with fewer than 10 games played as the top 13 players all with three or more have played at least three or more games than the Dartmouth senior. -.Crema’s 0.38 game winners per games played is the highest figure in the country currently. NHL RINK WINS The Big Green picked up their first win in an NHL arena since Mar. 14, 1980 when they beat Clarkson in the semifinals of the ECAC Tournament. The last time Dartmouth won in an NHL barn during the regular season was Dec. 29, 1971 when it beat Notre Dame, 9-6, in the Great Lakes Invitational at the Detroit Olympia. BUFF’S NET -.Devin Buffalo (8 games - 8 starts) is one of only three goalies in ECAC Hockey to start each of his team’s games this season. Buffalo joins Mitch Gillam of Cornell (9 games - 9 starts) and Harvard’s Merrick Madsen (9 games - 9 starts) as the only three netminders in the conference do start each tilt.

Dartmouth’s five goals Sunday in downtown Pittsburgh are the most in any game this season. The team had scored three goals against both Michigan (W) and Quinnipiac (L) previously.
2
Coming into Sunday’s game, Dartmouth had gone 0-for-43 on the power play in its first seven games of the season. That skid stopped with two power-play goals from Troy Crema on Sunday with the Green finishing the day 2-for5 with the man-advantage.
1
The win at PPG Paints Arena was the first road win of the season for the Big Green. Dartmouth is now 1-3-1 away from Thompson Arena.

GAME NOTES -.Buffalo ranks fourth in the league in save percentage (.916) and is tied for fifth in goals against average (2.46). THAT’S A LOT OF FRESHMEN With 11 rookies on the team this season there are bound to be games where the lineup is very freshmen-heavy. That was the case on Sunday afternoon when seven members of the Class of 2020 suited up and skated out with two more dressed as backup goalies. Daniel Warpecha, Charley Michalowski, Cam Strong, Jamie McLaughlin, Shane Sellar, Clay Han and Ben DiMaio all played against the Colonials in downtown Pittsburgh with Adrian Clark and Dean Shatzer backing up Devin Buffalo. The nine freshmen (and seven skaters) were a new season high for the Big Green. LAST SHUTOUT Dartmouth’s 3-0 loss to Robert Morris in the series opener was the first time being shutout since the 2015-16 home regular season finale against Cornell (1-0) on Feb. 20. A BAD HOMECOMING It wasn’t the homecoming Pittsburgh area (Upper St. Clair) native Tim Shoup was hoping for. The junior defenseman was hit with a major and a game misconduct with 8:05 left in the Saturday loss only to be handed a one-game suspension from the conference office, forcing him to miss Sunday’s game at the Penguins’ home arena.

ERNIE’S COOKIN’ Sophomore John Ernsting has been playing some of his best hockey as of late with four points in his last five games. After a three-game point streak was snapped Saturday night, Ernsting buried the insurance marker into the empty net Sunday for his third goal of the season, one off Troy Crema’s team lead. THESE TEAMS LOVE THE BOX Dartmouth and it’s two opponents this weekend are no stranger to the sin bin in 2016-17. As it stands on Nov. 30, Clarkson (18.06) is averaging the fourth most PIMs per game with St. Lawrence (17.62) eighth and Dartmouth (17.38) 12th, making them the top-three most penalized teams in the league to this point. HOMECOMING FOR PINKSTON Former Dartmouth defenseman Rick Pinkston ’15 was traded from the Allen Americans (ECHL) where he won the 2016 Kelley Cup to the Manchester Monarchs, the clubs announced Tuesday morning, bringing Pinkston back to the Granite State. BOB GAUDET HEAD COACH | DARTMOUTH CLASS OF 1981
20th SEASON AT DARTMOUTH 29th YEAR AS HEAD COACH Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction. Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ‘91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ’95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ‘01, third in ‘05 and was tied for first in 2006-07. During Gaudet’s time at Brown, the Bears were crowned Ivy League champion twice (1991 and 1995) and, in 1993, made the school’s first NCAA appearance since 1976. In both 1993 and 1995, he was a finalist for Division I Coach of the Year. He was named ECAC Coach of the Year in 1995 after leading Brown to a second-place finish in the league, just one-and-a-half games behind first-place Clarkson. The Bears also spent much of the year in and out of the top 10 in the national polls. Gaudet became head coach of the Bears in 1988 following a five-year tenure as an assistant coach with the Big Green. He assisted in all aspects at Dartmouth under head coaches George Crowe and Brian Mason, while coordinating recruiting efforts and serving as varsity goaltender coach. In addition, he directed the junior varsity program his first season in Hanover. Gaudet graduated in 1981 with a degree in visual arts after four productive seasons for the Big Green hockey team. In 1979 and 1980, Gaudet led the team to Ivy League titles and appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four. As a senior, he served as co-captain and was a recipient of the Philip D. McInnis Award for spirit, loyalty and dedication to Dartmouth ice hockey. In 76 career games, he made a school-record 2,129 saves, while allowing only 299 goals for a 4.00 career goals-against average and an .877 save percentage. He had his most successful campaign as a sophomore when he recorded two of his fourcareer shutouts to go along with a 3.03 goals-against average. He was First Team All-Ivy in 1978-79 and 1979-80, and was a two-time recipient of the Canterbury Society Award for the best Ivy League goalie. Following graduation, Gaudet signed a free-agent contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. He played for minor-league affiliates of Winnipeg in the CHL and IHL for one year before a knee injury cut short his promising career. Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Like her father, Kelly was a goaltender as well as co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey team while at Hanover High School. Kelly is a member of the Class of 2017 at Dartmouth.

In the last several seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11, eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12 and reaching 800 career games coached, doing so in a 1-1 tie at Vermont in 2013-14. In 2014-15, Gaudet reached both 250 wins at Dartmouth and 350 career wins between Hanover and his time at Brown. In 28 seasons as a head coach, including the last 19 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and 11 total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL. Entering the 2016-17 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 279 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. The 2015-16 season was special for Gaudet for both his current and former players. He guided the Big Green back to the ECAC Hockey semifinals for the seventh time, becoming the first team in conference history to reach the league’s final weekend of competition without having a single player earn a spot on any of the three all-conference teams, demonstrating a team-first mentality. Ben Lovejoy ’06 also helped the Pittsburgh Penguins capture the fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history and, in the process, became the first Dartmouth player since Myles Lane ’28 in 1929 to win the Stanley Cup. Lovejoy, the first New Hampshire-born player to win the Cup, brought the trophy back to Thompson Arena for a public event where he was introduced to the crowd by Gaudet whom Lovejoy credited with “giving me a second chance at hockey.” After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 199798 campaign. In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J. At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from 2000-01 to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 . The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year award. Gaudet has now had two
