REGIONAL RIVALS CLASH IN HANOVER AS UVM MAKES SHORT TRIP SOUTH ▶ WEDNESDAY’S GAME The Dartmouth women’s lacrosse team is finally back home after more than two weeks on the road for a Wednesday afternoon game with regional rival Vermont. The Big Green and Catamounts will meet at Scully-Fahey Field at 3 p.m. in a mid-week nonconference tilt. ▶ LAST TIME OUT Saturday saw the team return from a pair of games in North Carolina to take on Columbia in Manhattan. The closest game in the all-time series saw Dartmouth narrowly edge the Lions, 8-7, to improve to a perfect 16-0 since the two programs began competition against one another in 1998. ▶ WHERE WE RANK The Green dropped two spots in the coaches’ poll to No. 15 this week, despite the win in New York City. However, in the media poll, Dartmouth held firm at No. 15 in the rankings for the second straight week. ▶ SCOUTING VERMONT The Catamounts come to Hanover having lost its last two games, dropping to 4-6 overall on the season. Jessica Roach leads the team in scoring with 35 points, while Sydney Mas is just two points back with 33, while leading the team in goals with 26 this spring. Freshman Vanessa VanderZalm leads the team in both draw controls (29) and ground balls (27). Charlotte Lyons has seen the majority of time in the UVM circle and has compiled a 12.43 GAA and a .394 save percentage en route to a 4-6 record. ▶ ALL-TIME VS. THE CATAMOUNTS Wednesday will mark the 26th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Dartmouth holding a 21-3-1 record in those contests. The Big Green have
not lost to the Catamounts in the last 10 meetings, dating back to a game played in 1994. ▶ LAST YEAR VS. UVM In the game played last season in Hanover, the Green and White came out on top, 13-9, to stretch the current run of wins against Vermont to double digits. Then-senior Kirsten Goldberg had a massive day, scoring six times and recording two assist for a career-high eight points. Kristen Giovanniello also had quite a day for herself, picking up career highs in both saves (17) and ground balls (7) as the visitors put together a scrappy second-half effort to try and get back into the game.

▶ WELCOME BACK After missing the game at Davidson, junior Liz Calby returned to the Dartmouth lineup Saturday at Columbia to score three times, bringing her season total to 16.
▶ TWO AND TWO IS FOUR Senior Hana Bowers continued her stretch of scoring at least two goals in every game this season as she netted a pair against the Lions, while also adding two assists for four points. Dating back to the 2012 campaign, the last time Bowers failed to score at least two goals in a game was on April 27 at Harvard in the season finale. She scored at least two in each of the Ivy League Tournament games as well as in the NCAA Tournament at Syracuse to bring her current streak to 11 total contests.
▶ PICK IT UP Giovanniello had a season-high six ground balls against the Lions. Her career high for GBs in a single outing is seven, set last season against Wednesday’s opponent, Vermont.

Leto dished out the assists less than 30 seconds apart in the first half on goals from Bowers and Calby to tie the score at 3-3 in the first half. ▶ HOME AGAIN The last home game for Dartmouth was on March 9 against Florida. The team was 2-1 in the three road games played since then. ▶ WORLD CUP BOUND Senior Julia Szafman has been named to the Israeli roster for the 2013 FIL World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario, this summer. Szafman is the lone goalkeeper listed on Israel’s 20-player roster announced Monday morning. ▶ AROUND THE LEAGUE With the win, Dartmouth remains one of just three teams without a loss in league play this season. Penn is 3-0, while Princeton has won its lone Ivy League game to this point as both sandwich the Big Green atop the standings and its 2-0 conference mark.

▶ WHAT’S NEXT? The Big Green remain home this weekend for an Ivy contest with Brown. The Bears make the trip to Hanover for a Saturday game at Scully-Fahey Field, scheduled to start at noon. ▶ A DAY AT DAVIDSON The nine first-half goals at Davidson were the most this season by the Green, besting eight first-half markers on the road against Boston University on March 6. On the other side, though, the nine goals allowed in the second half to the Wildcats tied the team’s season high for a period as Florida netted nine in the first 30 minutes of play on March 9. ▶ A DAY OF FIRSTS Sophomore Samantha Schiff not only scored her first goal of the season at Davidson, but also picked up her first career assist, posted her first multi-point game as well as recording her first ground ball, draw control and caused turnover. Drummond scored the first goal of her collegiate career as part of the team’s balanced scoring attack. The goal was Drummond’s first career point as well. ▶ UPS AND DOWNS With the loss at Duke, Dartmouth fell in consecutive games for the first time in two years. The last time the Big Green were defeated in back-to-back contests came at the end of the 2011 campaign, dropping a onegoal game with Harvard in the Ivy League Tournament, followed by a loss against an unbeaten Albany team in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

▶ VERMONT • MAR. 27, 2013 ▶HEAD COACH AMY PATTON The 2013 season marks the 21st for head coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth, having led the Big Green to unprecedented success both within the Ivy League and on the national scale. With 209 career wins, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Ivy League championships and four NCAA Final Fours to her credit, Patton is one of the nation’s elite coaches. Beyond Hanover, Patton is an active part of U.S. Lacrosse, having recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Developmental team. Dartmouth has been a model of consistency under Patton, ranked in the IWLCA top-20 during every single season that she has coached and has ranked in the top-10 nationally in 18 of those, including in both 2010, 2011 and 2012. As a program, Dartmouth is one of just five teams to be ranked during every single season since the IWLCA began weekly polls in 1988. In 20 years as Dartmouth’s head coach, Patton owns a 221-103 overall record, 105-30 in Ivy League play, winning nearly 78 percent of Dartmouth’s conference games. Since her arrival in Hanover in 1993, the Big Green has reached double figures in wins 16 times and advanced past the NCAA first round seven times. Patton’s teams are no strangers to perfection, five times winning the Ivy League unbeaten, most recently in 2005. From 1997-2001, Dartmouth won 22 consecutive Ancient Eight contests, en route to threestraight 7-0 championship seasons. Dartmouth’s defense has ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense seven times since 2002, including leading the nation in that category in 2006. In 2012, Patton and the Big Green finally won the Ivy League Tournament Championship, taking down top-seeded Penn, 6-4, in the title game. The Green
held the Quakers without a goal for 44 minutes to complete the comeback win two days after knocking off Cornell in a thrilling 9-8 game. In winning the crown, Dartmouth would advance to its 13th NCAA Tournament and the 12th since Patton took control of the program. Patton’s 19th season at the helm (2011) was a special one in which Dartmouth won its 11th Ivy League Championship and made its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance. Ranked as high as 10th nationally during the season, it marked a true return to glory for the Big Green, which had not won an Ivy title since 2005 and had not been to the postseason since 2006. Dartmouth also knocked off previously unbeaten No. 1 Maryland on May 1, snapping the Terps’ 28-game winning-streak and becoming the first team other than North Carolina to beat Maryland since 2008. Patton’s efforts have not gone unrewarded on a personal level. She was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 1998, was one of three finalists for that honor in 1993 — her first season at the helm — and has been the Northeast Region’s Coach of the Year three times (1994, 1995, 1998). One of the most recognized names in college women’s lacrosse, Patton is a prominent member of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was vice president of the IWLCA for two years. Most recently, Patton headed the Brine All-America selection committee and has served on the Tewaaraton Trophy selection committee. Patton was a U.S. Squad selector in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008. She was also a member of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee and assistant coach for the U.S. National Developmental team in 1998-2000. Patton served as head coach of the developmental squad from 2006-09. Prior to her appointment as head coach at Dartmouth, Patton served as an assistant to former coach and athletics director Josie Harper from 1991-92. Patton served as an assistant for the University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team during the 1990 season. Patton is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As an athlete, Patton was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and field hockey, earning All-America and All-ACC accolades. She was a member of Maryland’s 1986 NCAA national championship lacrosse team and earned the Terps’ scholar-athlete award.
