GAMEES NOT
THIS WEEKEND The Dartmouth men’s hockey team will head out on the road for the first time in nearly a month this weekend for a pair of ECAC Hockey games at Quinnipiac and Princeton. LAST TIME OUT The Big Green swept the final weekend of its fivegame homestand with wins against American International and Boston University. A trio of goals from senior Tyler Sikura, Eric Robinson and Eric Neiley helped the home team to a 3-2 win against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, while a pair of goals from Brad Schierhorn and the second career shutout by netminder James Kruger helped propel Dartmouth to a 2-0 victory against the top-ranked Terriers the following afternoon. AGAINST THE BEST The win against BU marked the first time since Nov. 26, 2002 that the Big Green knocked off the No. 1 team in the nation. That win 12 years ago came against Boston College and was a 5-4 overtime result thanks to a Mike Ouellette tally at the 2:39 mark. Goaltender Nick Boucher had to make 36 saves as the Eagles outshot the Green, 40-16, in a losing effort. Ouellette scored the OT goal with assists from Lee Stempniak and Hugh Jessiman. SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC The Bobcats are coming off a home-andhome split with UMass last weekend in which the road team won both games. On Saturday night, Quinnipiac defeated the Minutemen, 3-1, to give head coach Rand Pecknold his 400th career coaching win. Coming into the weekend, the Bobcats are 9-4-1 overall, while their 5-1-0 record and 10 points in ECAC Hockey have them atop the league standings early on. Sophomore Sam Anas leads the team in points (18) and goals (10) through 14 games, while freshman Landon Smith is a close second in scoring (15). In goal, it’s been junior Michael Garteig nearly all season as he has an 8-4 record to go along with
a .903 save percentage and 2.21 goals against average. AGAINST THE BOBCATS Dartmouth is currently in the midst of a five-game skid against the Bobcats as Quinnipiac has swept the Green in each of the last two seasons. The last win in the series for the Big Green was a 5-4 comeback in Hanover on Nov. 11, 2011. Nick Walsh ’12 and Connor Goggin ’13 scored goals 28 seconds apart in the final two minutes to lift Dartmouth to win the win after Quinnipiac had held two separate two-goal leads in the game.

SCOUTING PRINCETON The Tigers play host to Harvard on Friday night before taking on Dartmouth on Saturday. Entering the weekend, Princeton is 2-7-1 overall and 1-50 in ECAC Hockey contests. That one league win came in the conference opener vs. Cornell on Nov. 7 as the Tigers defeated the Big Red, 2-1. Ben Foster leads the team in scoring with four points, and is one of three players with two goals this season. Most recently, Princeton split a weekend series at Hobey Baker Rink against BIG 10 opponent Michigan State. The Tigers won the first game on Friday night, 3-1, before succumbing, 4-2, to the Spartans the following evening. The team has a new bench boss this season as Ron Fogarty was announced as the program’s 17th head coach this past June after a seven-year stint with Adrian College (Division III). AGAINST THE TIGERS Despite Princeton’s placement in the standings in the last few seasons, the Tigers have always seemed to play Dartmouth tough, especially in New Jersey. Last season, Princeton earned a 3-2 overtime win in Newark at the Liberty Invitational and continued the trend with a 5-4 OT win two weeks later at Hobey Baker Rink. Dartmouth’s lone win of the season against the Black and Orange came in Hanover on Feb. 1 as Jesse Beamish’s two goals and Charlie Mosey’s three assists helped the home team to the 5-3 victory.

// GAME NOTES // SHUTTING OUT THE TERRIERS On Sunday, James Kruger did what no other Big Green goalie has ever done before: earned a shutout against BU. Coming into the game, the two programs had played 76 previous games and in none of those contests had Dartmouth ever held the Terriers scoreless. SUCCESS AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS The Big Green are 2-0 this season against teams ranked in the top-20 of the USCHO.com poll. In each instance of playing ranked teams, the opponents were actually in the top-10 both times: No. 8 Union (Nov. 7) and No. 1 BU (Nov. 30). Interestingly enough, Dartmouth is 0-2-1 against teams who are just outside the top-20 and receiving votes. INDIVIDUAL HONORS For their play against AIC and BU, junior Brad Schierhorn and James Kruger were recognized by ECAC Hockey with weekly accolades. Schierhorn was named the Player of the Week after a four-point weekend that included both goals against the Terriers. Kruger was tabbed as the Goaltender of the Week after a win against the Yellow Jackets and the aforementioned shutout of BU. It was the first weekly honor for either player in their respective collegiate careers. 248 AND COUNTING Head coach Bob Gaudet ’81 is just two wins shy of 250 at his alma mater after the pair of victories this past weekend. Already second at Dartmouth
in all-time wins, Gaudet looks to join legendary coach Eddie Jeremiah ’30 — owner of 308 career wins — as the only two coaches with 250 victories in Hanover. Overall, Gaudet has 341 career wins between Dartmouth and Brown. MULTI-POINT EFFORTS Schierhorn and Tyler Sikura each managed two points in both games last weekend. Schierhorn had two assists against AIC and the two-goal second period against the Terriers, while Sikura scored one and assisted on another on Saturday before setting up Schierhorn on both tallies the following afternoon. Schierhorn now leads the team with four multi-point games this season, while Sikura’s three ranks tied for second with linemate Eric Robinson. PK SUCCESS Dartmouth’s penalty kill ranks as one of the best this season as its success rate of 91.3% is the sixth-best in the nation to this point. Opponents have gone on the power play 23 times this season against the Big Green and have scored just twice; both figures are the lowest in the nation. Yale managed to go 2-for-5 on the power play in a 4-1 win on Nov. 14, meaning the Bulldogs are the only team to have struck on the manadvantage against Dartmouth this year. The two kills against BU on Sunday pushed Dartmouth streak of successful PKs to 13.

GAME 10 // at PRINCETON // DEC. 6, 2014 // GAME NOTES // POSSESSION STARTS AT THE DOT The Big Green continued to dominate the faceoff dot last weekend as it won nearly 68 percent (78-115) of the draws taken against AIC and BU. Both of Schiorhorn’s goals against BU were the result of offensive zone wins that eventually led to scores. Dartmouth is third in the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.569) as a team, while individually Charlie Mosey (.630) and Tyler Sikura (.617) are 11th and 15th, respectively, in the nation.
Pinkston (97) and Jesse Beamish (92) not far behind.
SENIOR SCORING Against AIC, the Green got goals from Eric Robinson, Tyler Sikura and Eric Neiley to pick up the non-conference win. Robinson and Sikura scored two goals in the first period less than four minutes apart, while Neiley’s first of the season came at 12:19 of the third period and proved to be the game winner.
IN YOUR FACE, 32 OTHER DIVISION I TEAMS! Following the two-win weekend, Dartmouth moved back into the receiving votes portion of the USCHO.com weekly poll. The Big Green garnered five points in Monday’s release, the 27th-best figure in the country.
OUT ATTEMPTING TEAMS Dartmouth managed 87 total shot attempts in the win against the Terriers. Although an impressive figure, it was the lowest total in the team’s last four games. The Big Green had managed 90 or more attempts against Brown (92), Harvard (90) and AIC (92). In the four-game stretch, Dartmouth has limited the opposition to just 43.75 attempts per game, a figure that is 46.5 fewer than it is averaging (90.25). 100 GAMES Sikura became the 84th player in Dartmouth history to reach the 100-games played mark for his career on Sunday afternoon. Sikura joins classmate Eric Neiley in reaching the figure as Neiley has now appeared in 104 career games following this past weekend’s contests. They won’t have to wait long for more company in the club as Eric Robinson has played 99 career games after the tilt with the Terriers while Rick

BOB GAUDET ’81
GAME 10 // at PRINCETON // DEC. 6, 2014
//KOENIG FAMILY HEAD COACH OF MEN’S HOCKEY
//18th SEASON AT DARTMOUTH //27th YEAR AS HEAD COACH // BIO //
Entering his 18th season as head coach of the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey program in 201415, Bob Gaudet has firmly established himself in the lore of this century-old program. A 1981 Dartmouth graduate and four-year member of the varsity hockey team, Gaudet has made the Big Green one of the most consistent teams in both ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League during his time behind the bench. In the last several seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11 and eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12. Most recently, Gaudet reached 800 career games coached, doing so in a 1-1 tie at Vermont. In 26 seasons as a head coach, including the last 17 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and 10 total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL. Entering the 2014-15 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 244 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 1997-98 campaign. At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from 2000-01 to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and has a Dartmouth record of 244-24663 (entering 2013-14). The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007, Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the

Division I Coach of the Year award. Gaudet has now had two Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction. Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ‘01, third in ‘05 and was tied for first in 2006-07. During Gaudet’s time at Brown, the Bears were crowned Ivy League champion twice (1991 and 1995) and, in 1993, made the school’s first NCAA appearance since 1976. In both 1993 and 1995, he was a finalist for Division I Coach of the Year. He was named ECAC Coach of the Year in 1995 after leading Brown to a second-place finish in the league. Gaudet became head coach of the Bears in 1988 following a five-year tenure as an assistant coach with the Big Green. Gaudet graduated in 1981 with a degree in visual arts after four productive seasons for the Big Green hockey team. In 1979 and 1980, Gaudet led the team to Ivy League titles and appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four. As a senior, he served as co-captain and was a recipient of the Philip D. McInnis Award for spirit, loyalty and dedication to Dartmouth ice hockey. He was First Team All-Ivy in 1978-79 and 1979-80, and was a two-time recipient of the Canterbury Society Award for the best Ivy League goalie. Following graduation, Gaudet signed a freeagent contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Like her father, Kelly was a goaltender as well as co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey teamwhile at Hanover High School. Kelly began at Dartmouth in 2013-14.
