GAME NOTES ▶ THIS WEEKEND The Dartmouth men’s hockey team will play its first two true roads games of the season this weekend when its travels to Princeton and Quinnipiac for a pair of ECAC Hockey contests Friday and Saturday nights. ▶ LAST TIME OUT The Big Green fell, 8-5, in an offensive contest against St. Lawrence on Saturday night in Hanover. The five goals scored were the most this season by Dartmouth, while the eight goals allowed were also a season high. Five different players netted tallies for the home team with freshman Josh Hartley getting the first of his career. ▶ SCOUTING PRINCETON Dartmouth’s early-season struggles might be the only thing to keep Princeton out of the glare so far this year. At 1-6-0, the Tigers also enter Friday night’s game on a six-game slide. The only

win so far this season for Princeton came at Dartmouth’s expense during the season opener in Newark as part of the Liberty Invitational. The 3-2 overtime victory against the Green came despite being outshot, 40-20, and allowing a goal in the final minute of play with netminder James Kruger pulled for the extra attacker. Since then, the Tigers have struggled, dropping six straight, including four in a row against ECAC Hockey teams. Most recently, UMass Lowell made the trip to Hobey Baker Rink on Tuesday night and escaped with a 2-1 win thanks to a power-play goal 15 seconds into the third period. Tucker Brockett, who scored the OT winner on Oct. 25, leads the team in scoring with five points (2g/3a). Sean Bonar (3.22 GAA, .897 S%), the goalie who stole the show in the opener with 38 saves, remains the team’s top netminder. ▶ ALL-TIME AGAINST PRINCETON The second meeting of 2013-14 between these two teams also marks the 194th in the all-

@DARTMOUTH_MIH IN 140 CHARACTERS OR LESS... Dartmouth is still seeking its first win of 2013-14 after starting the season 0-6. Nine different player have combined to score the Big Green’s 15 goals this season with Eric Neiley’s 5 leading the way This weekend will mark the first true road games of the year after two neutral site games and four home contests

GAME NOTES (CONT.) time series, the third-most for any Dartmouth opponent behind only Harvard (197) and Yale (209). Dartmouth holds a 93-84-16 overall advantage in those games, but is just 44-47-7 in games played in Princeton, including an 0-11 mark at Hobey Baker Rink in the last two seasons. ▶ SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC The Bobcats picked right up where they left off last season when they made it all the way to the national championship game. Quinnipiac is currently ranked fifth in the nation by USA Today and sixth by USCHO, while receiving firstplace votes in both polls. At 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in ECAC Hockey games, The Bobcats sit atop the conference standings, a spot they have not relinquished since last November. Freshman Sam Anas is off to a stellar start, leading the team with eight goals and 15 points in 11 games. Kellen Jones has 14 points with 10 assists, the third-best mark in the ECAC to this point. Gone is Hobey Baker Award Finalist goaltender Eric Hartzell, but sophomore Michael Garteig has fit in nicely as he ranks second in goals-against average (1.54) and winning percentage (.864) and ninth in save percentage (.919) among all qualifying ECAC goalies. ▶ ALL-TIME AGAINST QUINNIPIAC A newer rival since joining ECAC Hockey in 2005, Saturday will mark just the 21st all-time

meeting between the two clubs dating back to October 2004. The Bobcats lead the series, 127-1, and have allowed Dartmouth to come into the TD Bank Sports Center and win just twice. One of those wins came in the 2010 first-round series, where Quinnipiac needed a 2-1 Game 3 win to advance after Dartmouth staved off elimination with a 6-3 Game 2 victory. ▶ IT’S NOT SO MUCH ME, IT’S NEILEY, HE’S GOOD Eric Neiley continues his hot start as he netted goals in each game last weekend. His first of the weekend came against Clarkson with a second remaining on a 5-on-4 man-advantage in the second period, tying the game at 2-2. He added another late in regulation the following night against the Saints. In four career games played in the state of New Jersey, Neiley has five goals, including three at Baker Rink, less than hour from his hometown of Warminster, Pa. ▶ A WHOLE NEW GAME In contrast to last season’s struggles on the power play, the Big Green don’t seem to be as troubled this year with the man-advantage as they were in 2012-13. Through six games played, Dartmouth ranks first in the country on the power play at 32.1% (9-28). At this point last season, the Green and White were successful on just 18.4% (4-22) of their man-up chances, ranking 27th in the nation and sixth in the league.

▶ TAKE THE CARTRIDGE OUT AND BLOW ON IT The last time Dartmouth began a season 0-60 was in 2009-10. After that slow start, the Big Green rattled off three straight wins against St. Lawrence (3-2), Providence (4-2) and Harvard (6-2). ▶ BRASS BONANZA The Green and White put together a solid offensive effort against the Saints in their last outing, scoring a season-high five goals. In addition to Hartley’s first career tally, Andy Simpson, Brett Patterson, Charlie Mosey and Neiley all netted markers in the affair. ▶ DO IT FOR SUPERFAN #99 OVER HERE He might not wear No. 99, but freshman No. 9 Troy Crema continued to make an impact on the scoresheet in his second home weekend of action. The rookie from Ontario earned his first assist as a member of the Big Green by helping set up Patterson for an up-ice rush in the second period against SLU. The helper was the first for Crema, who already had two goals in his first four games. ▶ WRAP-AROUNDS ALWAYS WORK Both of Neiley’s goals against the Golden Knights and Saints were the result of the junior winger carrying the puck from behind the goal line into a position where he could score in the slot.

▶ MANUAL LINE CHANGES In six games thus far, only twice have the top six forwards been the same for Dartmouth. That instance came in the opening two contests of the season at the Prudential Center when Brandon McNally, Nick Bligh and Eric Robinson comprised one group, while Brad Schierhorn, Tyler Sikura and Neiley made up the other trio. There has yet to be two games with the same 12 forwards grouped together in the same four-line combinations. ▶ THIS IS NOT PITTSBURGH/CHICAGO Friday’s match-up will feature the only two teams in ECAC Hockey without a league win. Although the spotlight might be on Dartmouth, the Big Green actually have better numbers in several statistical categories than the Tigers to this point, including goals per game (2.50 to 2.0), shots on goal per game (30 to 24.29) and power-play goals per game (1.50 to 0.86). ▶ BLUE(ICE)LINERS Some of the offense this season has gone through the defense as Andy Simpson ranks tied for first on the team with Neiley in both points per game (1.0) and power-play points (4) and second in total points (5). Sophomore Ryan Bullock is leading all players with four assists (3 on the PP) after setting a new career high with two against SLU. Hartley has also contributed with one point in each of his first games.

at PRINCETON/QUINNIPIAC • NOV. 15-16, 2013 The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year award. Gaudet has now had two Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction.

Head Coach

BOB GAUDET ’81 Entering his 17th season as head coach of the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey program in 2013-14, Bob Gaudet has firmly established himself in the lore of this century-old program. A 1981 Dartmouth graduate and four-year member of the varsity hockey team, Gaudet has made the Big Green one of the most consistent teams in both ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League during his time behind the bench. In the last several seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11 and eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12. In 24 seasons as a head coach, including the last 16 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and nine total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL. Entering the 2013-14 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 234 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. Gaudet’s .508 winning percentage (234-226-59) is the thirdbest mark at Dartmouth as well. After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 1997-98 campaign. In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J. At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from the 2000-01 season to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and has a Dartmouth record of 234-226-59 (entering 2013-14).

Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ’91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ‘95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ’01, third in ’05 and was tied for first in 2006-07. During Gaudet’s time at Brown, the Bears were crowned Ivy League champions twice (1991 and 1995) and, in 1993, made the school’s first NCAA appearance since 1976. In both 1993 and 1995, he was a finalist for Division I Coach of the Year. He was named ECAC Coach of the Year in 1995 after leading Brown to a second-place finish in the league, just one-and-a-half games behind first-place Clarkson. The Bears also spent much of the year in and out of the top 10 in the national polls. Gaudet graduated in 1981 with a degree in visual arts after four productive seasons for the Big Green hockey team. In 1979 and 1980, Gaudet led the team to Ivy League titles and appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four. As a senior, he served as co-captain and was a recipient of the Philip D. McInnis Award for spirit, loyalty and dedication to Dartmouth ice hockey. In 76 career games, he made a school-record 2,129 saves, while allowing only 299 goals for a 4.00 career goals-against average and an .877 save percentage. He had his most successful campaign as a sophomore when he recorded two of his four-career shutouts to go along with a 3.03 goals-against average. He was First Team All-Ivy in 1978-79 and 1979-80, and was a two-time recipient of the Canterbury Society Award for the best Ivy League goalie. Following graduation, Gaudet signed a free-agent contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. He played for minor-league affiliates of Winnipeg in the CHL and IHL for one year before a knee injury cut short his promising career. Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. ▶ CHECK THE MANUAL FOR HIS FACEOFF RANKING Four players have taken at least 70 faceoffs this season with Tyler Sikura’s 126 leading all players. Of those four, three have won more 50% of the draws they taken. Sikura (71/126 – 56.3%), Mosey (42/82 – 51.2%) and Crema (38/73 – 52.1%) have all won more than half with sophomore Nick Bligh (34/75 – 45.3%) the other Big Green centerman. ▶ 94+11 GETS YOU BOLDT Senior Taylor Boldt began the season with 99 career games to his name. He now has suited up in 105 games to this point, having missed just one contest in his first three seasons as he sat out the Dec. 1, 2012 game against Bentley. ▶THE ONLY TWO “INTERNATIONAL” TEAMS IN THE GAME Both Dartmouth and Quinnipiac ventured across the Atlantic Ocean this summer to play games in Italy and Switzerland. The Bobcats made the trip in early August, playing four times in all. The Big Green left later in the month and into September, playing twice against Swiss teams and once in Italy against Ritten Renon. Both teams organized through Eurosport Tours.

▶ SIM TO NEXT GAME After this weekend’s road tilts, the Big Green will have a bit of a respite for finals before returning to the ice at home on Saturday, Nov. 30 against Harvard. Following the game with the Crimson, Dartmouth will head out for road contests at Brown, Yale and Union all in less than a week’s span in early December. ▶ FIRST POINT Making his collegiate debut, freshman defender Josh Hartley recorded his first career point with an assist on Troy Crema’s power-play tally against RPI. Hartley’s shot from the halfboards was redirected below the circle by his classmate for the lone Dartmouth goal of the evening. ▶ FIRST TIMERS Sophomore Jack Barre and freshman Troy Crema picked the perfect time to find themselves on the scoresheet for the first time as members of the Big Green. On the big stage of playing in an NHL rink, both Barre and Crema found the back of the net. Barre got Dartmouth on the board for the first time this season by knocking in a rebound at the top of the crease just 3:40 into the third period on Friday night. Crema got his first goal on a redirect of an Andy Simpson point shot just as a second-period power play was expiring Saturday against the Bears.
