PRESS RELEASE 08 NOVEMBER, 2018

SAY NO TO VIOLENCE IN NIGERIA’S 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS Nigeria politics is very complicated to predict. The current political situation is always tense; sometime nobody knows what will happen in the next second. Politics in this part of the world is very volatile. Nigerians are feelings the heat as 2019 general elections approach. The Presidential election is the most crucial and already a lot of speculations are going on as regards who is likely to emerge as the country’s next President. To ensure a free and fair elections, President Muhammad Buhari wrote to the senate requested the lawmakers to approve the sum of N254, 445, 322,600 to be drawn from 2018 and 2019 budget .The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says N194 Billion is for security agencies including the office of National Security Adviser to the President, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ,Nigeria Police Force and DSS . The bombing in the country by terrorists and other religious violent attacks during the elections are the major threats to the economy in Nigeria. At

least 4500 person have been killed in the attacks by the Islamic sects they have wasted lives and properties for a worthless cause. Violence does not breed any good; its only destroys and kills. Let’s say NO to Violence in the upcoming general election 2019 and live together in peace and unity. TOTAL SUPPORT GROUP FOR NIGERIA IN DIASPORA, UK seeks help of Nigerians in detecting cases of under aged voters. Red card on political thuggery and buying voters card .The founder and President of the organization in the United Kingdom, Alhaji Dauda Awwal is appealing to the local, international observers, party agents, reporters, media houses, security agencies, NGOs to work together with INEC in order to play a great role for the success of the general elections 2019. Rigging the election plays a great impact negatively in the country. Nigeria’s regular incidences of violence during election must be addressed by the Nigerian Government before the election. Because violence from political and religious conflict has killed more than 5,000 people in Nigeria 2015 in Kogi, Jos, Kano, Adamawa Oyo and Kaduna. According to Nigerian constitution. A candidate for the Presidential candidate had to obtain a majority of the votes cast, as well as receive at least 25% of the votes cast in the two thirds of the country’s 36 states. I remember vividly when Former President Goodluck Jonathan was declared winner 2011 Presidential election, countless of houses of his supporters, churches and police station were set ablaze in Kano and Kaduna. Many people were killed. Please, Say NO TO VIOLENCE IN THE 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS. Many crooks among Nigerians politicians bring non-Nigerians to vote from Cameroon, Niger, and Chad because of weak border control in Nigeria. FG must address this issue before the election. Nigeria must be ready to hold free and fair elections of 2019.Since 1999 most of the elections have been tarnished by acts of violence due to lack of education among the citizens, poverty where the politicians gives bags of rice, clothes, mobile phones, money to people to disrupt the polling units or steal the ballot box by the thugs. As we know, elections are the hallmarks of Democracy; elections serve the purpose of peaceful change government.

Nigeria’s election have historically been tense, campaigns gets underway. Total Support Group for Nigeria in Diaspora, UK concern about the upcoming election’s process by the INEC. Participation in this election is essential for all Nigerians. We advise INEC to conduct credible electoral process. The conflicts between farmers and pastoralists have affected a much wider cross-section of the nation. The ethno-religious orientation of farmer and pastoralists conflicts has further deepened divisions between Christians and Muslims. This may have serious implication s for voting patterns, this are the issues President Buhari needs to address before the elections because he shares the Muslim and Fulani identity. Many of the risk that affected last election in 1963,1979,1993,1999,2003,2011,2015 remain unchanged. Boko Haram militant may have plans to disrupt the election campaign and voting. Shia leaders is in detention, his followers had clash with military last week in Abuja requesting Buhari to release their leader. IPOB vow to disrupt 2019 election requesting for referendum from Federal Government. Competition between the political parties paradoxically also is one of the political violence in Nigeria. Say No to 2019 general elections. Signed by ANIKE OMONIYI Special Adviser to the TSGND President, United Kingdom.
