The United Kingdom general election of 2017 took place on 8 June 2017. Each of the 650 parliamentary constituencies elected one Member of Parliament to the House of Commons, the lower house of Parliament. A total of 49.9 million people are eligible to vote on polling day which was higher than 2015 general election in the UK . . Each of the 650 parliamentary constituencies elected one member of parliament (MP) to the House of Commons. In line with fixed-term Parliament Act 2011, The election brought Conservatives to power had not been due until 7 May, 2020. Many people asking the Prime Minister, Theresa May why she called for this snap election. She played a high risk political game and has lost it. She didn't have to call this election, and only did so in order to give herself a mandate and breathing space during the bumpy ride of Brexit. Mrs May cited the imminent Brexit negotiations as one reason to call the snap election. The results have been celebrated as ‘historic’ in an election where Labour did much better than many had expected.

This exit poll result is not what either parties were predicting privately this would be another political surprise .The public defying the expectations of both the main sides. May has no plan to resign .Hung Parliament is what happened in this general election. Hung parliament- If no party wins the general election. To win a general election outright and able to form a majority government, political party must win at least 326 seats in the house of commons. if every party falls short, it is known as Hung Parliament. 11 seats more needed for conser,45 seats more needed for labour. This happened, Conservatives may remain in power for a period after the negotiation with other small parties and form coalition, if they are unable to win enough to form a coalition they may form minority government, if the incumbent party cannot command a majority or form coalition, they may resign- Paving way for the leader of largest opposition party to form a new government. This happened 1970 to labour party and 2010 when David Cameron conservative won 307 seats-49 more than labour ,after six days of negotiations the Tories formed a Coalition with Lib Dem whose leader Nick Clegg became Deputy Prime Minister, the Lib Dem 57 seats . May will remain as Prime Minister, she said in a press conference outside the Downing Street that Tories and Democratic Unionist Party, DUP which is the biggest party in Northern Ireland have agreed with May to come together to energise a Brexit deal . No humility to say she made mistake calling this general election, some critics blaming David Cameron for starting this move. Jeremy Corbyn believes he won the election and he is ready to undertaken Brexit negotiation on behalf of the country. Corbyn said ''Theresa thought that with the backing of the billionaires and the corporate elite, she could take your votes for granted''. May called the general election in April 2017, few pollsters predicted conservative's victory but with the gap between Tories and Corbyn 's labour narrowing in the necks before the snap elections ,some forecasts have predicted that no party will win enough seats to form a government. May faces social media black lash after vowing to govern the UK after the result of the general election disaster. London Mayor,Sadiq Khan said: ''I am particularly delighted by labour's brilliant result in London''. Boris Johnson said EU negotiators would have the labour leader for breakfast. SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has announced the party will form a coalition in order to keep the Conservatives out of power. Addressing journalists in Edinburgh, Sturgeon said Theresa May has ‘lost all authority and credibility’ following general election result. She added that says ‘reckless’ Conservative approach to Brexit should be abandoned.The SNP lost 21 seats in Westminster, including the shock defeat of former first minister Alex Salmond.

In Birmingham Erdington, Jack Draney (Lab) has 21,571 votes, Robert Alden (Con) has 14,286 votes .Ann Holtom (Lib Dem) has 750 votes, James Lovatt (Green) has 610 votes. In Birmingham Hall Green, Roger Godsiff (Lab) has 42,143 votes, Reena Ranger (Con) has 8,199 votes ,Jerry Evans (Lib Dem) has 3,137 votes. Patrick Cox (Green) has 831 votes. Home Secretary Amber Rudd clings on to Hastings and Rye seat by just 346 votes after a three-hour recount.Amber Rudd has held on to her seat of Hastings and Rye by just 346 votes. It comes after a full recount was held with the numbers down to a knife edge .Has held post of Home Secretary since 2016 when Theresa May promoted her. In Birmingham Ladywood, Shabana Mahmood (Lab) has 34,166 votes, Andrew Browning (Con) has 5,452 votes, Lee Dargue (Lib Dem) has 1,156,Kefentse Dennis (Green) has 533 votes. In Birmingham Northfield, Richard Burden (Lab) has 23,596, Meg Powell Chandler (Con) has 18,929 votes, Roger Harmer (Lib Dem) has 959 votes,Eleanor Masters (Green) has 864 votes. In Birmingham Perry Barr,Khalid Mahmood (Lab) has 30,109 votes, Charlotte Hodivala (Con) has 11,726 votes ,Harjun Singh (Lib Dem) has 1,080 votes,Shangara Bhatoe (Soc Lab) has 592 votes, Vijay Rana (Green) has 591 votes. In Birmingham Selly Oak, Steve McCabe (Lab) has 30,836 votes ,Sophie Shrub sole (Con) has 15,629 votes ,David Radcliffe (Lib Dem) has 1,644 votes, Julienne Pritchard (Green) has 876 votes. Fiona Onasanya (Lab) won the Peterborough seats with 22,950 votes, Kate Osamor (Labour) won Edmonton seats with 31,221 votes, Chuka Umunna (Lab) won Streatham seat with 26,285 votes ,Bim Afolami (Con) won Hitchin and Harpenden seat with 31,189 votes, Helen Grant (Con) won Maidstone and The Weald with 29,136 votes, Chi Onwurah (Lab) won Newcastle Central with 24,071 votes, Kemi Badenoch (con) won Safron Walden seat with 37,629 votes. In West Yorkshire, Conservative Kris Hopkins lost his seat to Labour's John Grogan, but by a very small 249 majority. Another Lib Dem to lose out to Labour, was Greg Mulholland who lost out to Alex Sobel in Leeds North West. And in East Yorkshire, Hull West and Hessle has a new MP after Labour's Emma Hardy replaced Alan Johnson, who held the seat for 20 years before standing down. In Hitchin and Harpenden.Bim Afolami (Con) 31,189,John Hayes (Lab) 19,158,Hugh Annand (Lib Dem) 6,236,Richard Cano (Green) 1,329,Ray Blake (Independent) 629, Sid Cordle (Christian Alliance) 242 votes. Kemi Badenoch The 37-year-old, who was not even born when incumbent Sir Alan was first elected to the seat in 1977, said it was an honour to be elected as Saffron Walden’s MP.

If Mrs May does not manage to put together a government, Jeremy Corbyn is likely to team up with the Lib Dems and the SNP, who could demand a second referendum on the EU as a condition of their support. Former Labour spin chief and ardent Europhile Alistair Campbell said: “I cannot see Brexit happening on the current Article 50 timetable.” And Ed Miliband added: “We know Theresa May can’t now negotiate Brexit for Britain because she told us losing majority would destroy her authority. Some politics experts say on ITV’s Good Morning Britain that this election result could derail Brexit. The former Ukip leader told the BBC: “If we get a Corbyn election, then Brexit is in trouble.” The Sun and the daily mail had criticised corbyn and supported may the days before the election, but turned on her overnight came clear that the Conservatives would not win a majority in the general election. The Daily Telegraph, which also supported the Conservatives, said “Britain votes for chaos” while the Times described the vote as a “nightmare” for May and said she had been “humiliated”.

Although Mrs Rudd, 53, won praise just days ago when she stood in for the Prime Minister in a televised election debate, she had just a 9.4 per cent lead, putting her in the danger zone. In Mrs Rudd's south coast seat, where she has served since 2010, the Green Party has forged an alliance with Labour to oust the 53-year-old .Ms Rudd said: 'I'm deeply honoured to have been re-elected for the third time by the residents of Hastings and Rye. 'This is a fantastic place to live and work and I'm going to continue my hope to build on the opportunities and great regeneration that has been taking place in this area. 'Improving our schools, improving our NHS and getting the infrastructure investment that we need. 'This is what really matters to me and this is what I hope to continue to deliver for the fantastic constituency of Hastings and Rye.' She played a prominent role in the election campaign. She told BBC News: 'I'm just quietly waiting and keeping an eye on everybody and everything in the normal way.' This is British 's most diverse parliament ever,200 women were elected member of parliament,4 disabled MPs,10 ethnic minority MPs including visual impaired woman. Together we can unite our country and bring about the change Britain needs and demands. Together, let's continue to fight for a better Britain. There is possibility of another UK general election this year or next year for Conservatives or Labour to win 326 MPs.
