SITE PLAN
The Pavilion is located at the Christian Science Center plaza, where it houses two sculptures: the Appeals to the Great Spirit by Cyrus Dallin and the Untitled by James Baldwin. The pavilion is made up of two tent-like forms that are symmetric to each other and are arranged in a diagonal to create a dynamic space. Supported by steel beams, this pavilion integrates light and apertures studies to capture and frame the moments of the Christian Science center as well as the skyline of Boston. PAVILION

In response to learning about structures and the forces that act upon them, this project constisted of a roof span structure for the SOWA Boston Market located on 460 Harrison Ave. For this particular structure, asymmetric arches were utilized to create a modern aesthetic that juxtapose against the neoclassical vernacular buildings. Within the roof structure, a mezzanine structure was integrated which allows vendors and customers to experience the elevation of this market space. For the materials of these arches, glue laminated wood was incorporated to create the illusion of a lighter, natural and delicate form. The zig zag pattern acts as a structural element and aesthetic component to allow lateral bracing and to control the amount of light which enters the structure. This design won the “Best Presentation award based on representation. Group members: Esra Erdogon & Rachel Berman

ROOF SPAN STRUCTURE The glue laminated wood was incorporated, due to its versatility and strength. The zig zag pattern lateral bracing adds extra strength to the structure and creates a compelling experience in which light filters in through the structure.

The Community Fitness Center, located in the Haymarket area in Boston, revolved around the urban fabric and its relation to the irregular site. The interaction between the urban context and the site dictated the design, because the open space correlated with the shell of the building. The building itself does not conform to the site; however, the form does take on some of the axial components of the intersection that faces south. The notion of the intersection is relevant for the interior because it divided the pools, the fitness areas, and the public spaces. The form took on a parametric shell that influenced the interior spaces which are directly connected to the exterior. The concept explored the notions of lighting conditions and voids which allowed the community to interact among the spaces.

PROGRAM The program of the building is divided between the pools (blue), the exercise spaces (yellow), and the public spaces (red).
PARTI WALL & POOLS The pools are arranged at the parti wall, which allows interaction between the fitness center and the surrounding building. Voids are placed for individuals to interact between the three pools.
INTERSECTION & SPACE The diagonal intersection that occurs in the site, influenced the interior spaces, which created a path within the building.

This free plan residence is a secluded dwelling that is utilized during the summer for its inhabitants. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s Villa la Lac and Mies Van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House, this residence reflects the free plan style while incorporating a circular form which connects to the open landscape. The open spaces can be used for multiple purposes and arrangements. Two rectilinear masses were integraed within the circle to nest the served and private areas of the residence. The spiral staircase is the circulation spine, which is the central point of the design. The roof space is inhabitable and allows the inhibitor to experience the environment.
