Apple Trees Ultima™ Gala (Bud 9) Discovered in Washington state The Ultima Gala presents a visible stripe but requires aggressive pruning through early season to reduce number of fruit for optimum production. Great for eating and desserts.

Gala Buckeye BuckeyeÂŽ is the darkest Gala strain and typically develops complete color and a stripe in New England climates. Fruit size and flavor are comparable to traditional Gala strains. Tree habit is upright and vigorous.

Macoun (M 9) One of the best dessert apples the Macoun is similar to a Macintosh. In New England the variety is used because of its high quality. The flesh is white, firm and juicy. This is the #1 choice for most New England orchards that also run farm stands. The tree stands upright and requires aggressive pruning and thinning for best production.

Honeycrisp (mid season) Recommended as the #1 most sought after popular variety for the New Hampshire climate. It was developed at the University of Minnesota. The fruit is mostly orange-red with a yellow background. This crisp, juicy, sweet-tart apple has a rich flavor. The fruit averages three inches and up, matures ten days before Red Delicious and stores well. Outstanding winter hardiness gives this variety excellent potential for northern growing regions. Honeycrisp™ is moderately resistant to apple scab. Tree is non-vigorous and late-blooming.

Apple Trees Cameron Select (Honeycrisp)

CrimsonCrisp™ (late season) CrimsonCrisp® is an exciting new scab-resistant variety. The fruit is medium in size with a very attractive crimson red color over 95% of the surface. CrimsonCrisp® has a very firm, crisp texture with a tart, complex flavor. The tree is very grower friendly with a spreading habit, fruiting throughout the tree on two and three year old branches. The fruit matures mid-season and will keep in cold storage for six months.

The Cameron strain of Honeycrisp is valued for its sweetness, firmness, and tartness making it an ideal apple for eating raw. It has much larger cells than most apples, which rupture when bitten to fill the mouth with juice. The Honeycrisp also retains its pigment well and boasts a relatively long shelf life when stored in cool, dry conditions.

Wolfriver Well known for its huge fruit, it easily dwarfs most common varieties. It is recommended as a cooking or cider apple, used in baked goods and pies or as a baked apple. Also known for offering an excellent flavor dried. It is not a keeper though, staying fresh only a few weeks once harvested.

Fuji Daybreak (September) The fruit is large with an orange-red blush over 60% of the fruit surface. Maturing a full six to eight weeks ahead of conventional Fuji, Daybreak Fuji provides the opportunity to harvest high quality Fuji in early September.

Fuji Aztec The tree has a Low susceptibility to many apple diseases. Its skin is very attractive red (the most colored sport of Fuji blushed with some stripes. Its flesh is crisp, juicy and fine and its taste is sweet with hardly any acidity.

PEAR Trees Bartlett (mid-August) A large, heavy-bearing variety with excellent quality. Long considered one of the choicest canning varieties. Bartlett accounts for about 75% pf the pear production in the United States and Canada. A favorite for all uses.

Seckel (beginning to mid-September) A small typical pear with rich yellowish brown skin when fully ripe. One of the best quality dessert pears. Ideal for the home garden. Tree is vigorous, hardy and productive. Ripens two weeks before the Bartlett.

Harrow Crisp

Shiro (end of July)

AC™ Harrow Crisp was developed by the Harrow Research Station in Ontario, Canada. This variety harvests with Bartlett and sizes slightly larger. Fruit has a very attractive finish with a red blush over smooth, yellow skin and the flavor is mildly sweet. The tree is hardy, productive and has proven resistance to fire blight.

Harrow Sweet A late-season pear developed by the Harrow Research Station in Ontario, Canada, AC™ Harrow Sweet ripens approximately three weeks after Bartlett. This variety has shown very good resistance to fire blight. The fruit size and appearance are similar to that of Bartlett; however, AC™ Harrow Sweet does develop an attractive blush. Trees should be thinned to maintain fruit size and avoid biennial bearing.

Red Clapps (Kalle Cv.) An early maturing, fresh market variety ripening ten days before Bartlett. The fruit finishes with an attractive red color, is medium to large, with fine white flesh and good quality. The tree is vigorous, productive, but should not be planted where fire blight is a serious problem.

A sweet and juicy yellow plum. Fruit is round, clingstone and medium in size. The trees are spreading and very productive. Shiro is a great pollinizer for Satsuma.

Red Haven (industry standard - 1st August)

A New York State Agriculture experiment Station Introduction and leading cultivar in the Great Lakes region. A fine prune-type plum with excellent quality suited for both home use and processing. Fruit is large in size with dark blue ski. Flesh is greenish-yellow, juicy and fine grained.

Highly flavored firm, freestone peach with medium vigor productive and tolerant of bacterial spot

Contender (mid to late August) A high quality, freestone variety. Fruit is very firm and large with excellent color. The trees are hardy and very productive.

Green Gage (August) In Europe, this self-fertile variety is considered to be the ideal dessert plum. The fruit is yellow-green with red mottling and has a very rich flavor. The trees are moderately vigorous and tend to be biennial. KSV owner, Dave Quigley picks this plum over all others.

Coral Star They are truly all-rounded, beautiful peaches. Because they don’t brown, they stay beautiful in the jar after canning, nice and bright after freezing and look great in a peach tart with mascarpone and graham cracker crust.

Methley (July) An early plum with fine quality and appearance. The fruit is purple with red, sweet flesh, very juicy with a distinctive flavor. Ripening in early to mid-July, Methley is self-fruitful and a good pollinizer for Shiro.

Bluebyrd A delicious European-type plum. The fruit is blue with amber flesh, medium to large in size with excellent flavor and high sugar content. The tree is vigorous and productive and has shown great resistance to black knot. Bluebyrd blooms before Stanley and requires cross pollination.

Reliance Well known for its cold hardiness, this variety is ideal for northern climates like New Hampshire where peaches are not typically grown. The fruit is medium sized, freestone, with a dull blush over greenishyellow background. Good for canning and freezing.

Gloria (NJ351) An outstanding new selection for the midseason, Gloria® is a large, highly colored, yellow-fleshed freestone peach ripening seven days after Loring. The fruit is very firm, low acid, with high sugar content and excellent dessert quality. The tree is very productive and resistant to bacterial spot. Gloria® was developed at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers University

Hargrande (early-season)

This tart cherry variety has long been recognized as the standard in the industry and considered the best tart cherry for processing. The fruit is bright red and medium in size with a clear, juicy flesh. The trees are self-fertile, winter hardy and very productive.

A 1980 release from Harrow Research Station, Ontario, Canada. Produces very large fruit, yellow-orange in color. Flesh is firm, orange and freestone. Tolerant to brown rot, bacterial spot and perennial canker, winter hardy and highly productive in three years.

Emperor Francis (sweet)

Harogem (mid-season)

A large, high-quality yellow cherry of the Napoleon type, but less susceptible to cracking. The color of the two fruits is similar except that those of Emperor Francis have more red blush. Tree is hardy, vigorous and very productive.

Medium-sized fruit, bright red glossy blush over orange background. Ideally suited for the fresh market. Flesh is orange, firm, and freestone with good flavor. Trees are upright, productive and very cold hardy. Resistant to brown rot, perennial canker and somewhat resistant to bacterial spot.

Kristin (sweet) Developed from a cross of Emperor Francis x Gil Peck, Kristin has been tested extensively in cold climates. The fruit is dark red, large and of high quality. The trees are very winter hardy and productive.

Harlayne (late-season) A 1980 release from Harrow, Ontario, Canada. Fruit is bright yellow with a red blush. May require thinning for best size of fruit. An excellent late-season apricot.

Heldelfingen Hedelfingen is a large, late-season, high-quality dark red sweet cherry. The fruit has very good flavor and lacks firmness, making it more resistant to rain cracking than most other cherries. The trees are early bearing, very productive and hardy.

Benton An early- to mid-season, dark red sweet cherry of excellent quality. Developed at the Washington State University Prosser Research Center, BentonÂŽ is a self-fertile variety that blooms later than most other sweet cherry varieties. Mulberry Trees Black Beauty Mulberry Bush form mulberry, large, black fruit with blackberry-like flavor. It is very attractive to birds so it will need to be netted if you’d like to harvest the fruit. The tree grows to fifteen feet.

Dwarf Bush Mulberry The tree continuously produces sweet, blackberry-like fruit throughout the season. A great choice for containers. Mature height is six to eight feet in the ground.

White Persian Mulberry Small spreading tree with large, sweet fruit similar to blackberries, but white and pink in color. Unpruned height is 20 to 25 feet.

Blueberries Patriot (early season) Patriot is an early variety released by the University of Maine, where growing seasons are short and winter hardiness is a must. This variety is vigorous and grows upright to a height of 4 to 6 feet. Patriot adapts to many different soil types and has performed better in heavier soil than some other varieties. The fruit is large and has very good flavor

Blueray (early season) Blueray is an early-mid season blueberry variety. The large, dark-blue berries, with sweet, high-quality flavor, make Blueray an excellent choice for the home gardener. The bush is vigorous, productive, and winterhardy. It grows to a height of 4-6 feet. Blueray is widely planted throughout New England.

Reka (early season) Reka blueberry, an early season blueberry variety bred in New Zealand, is one of the fastest growing and most adaptable varieties we have seen. A very vigorous variety, it grows well in light sandy soils, peat and heavier clay loams and is more tolerant to wetter ground than many other varieties. Reka ripens the season as Duke, but the berries have better flavor. Fruit is an attractive dark-blue color and the plant produces large crops. Its winter hardiness is rated equivalent to Bluecrop. We are pleased to offer this high-performing variety and strongly recommend it.

Northland (fall)

Prelude Raspberries (US Patent #11747)

Northland blueberry, a variety developed by Michigan State University, has excellent winter hardiness. It has produced a consistent crop following winter temperatures as low as -30F. The medium-size berries are very flavorful - similar to wild blueberries. The plant grows to about 4 feet, with attractive foliage throughout the fall.

Recently released by the N.Y. State Experiment Station, Geneva, N.Y., Prelude raspberry is identified as the earliest ripening summer red raspberry, ripening in mid-June under New England conditions. Although Prelude is also fall-bearing, it produces the biggest portion of its crop in the spring. Very winter hardy and vigorous, Prelude berries are roundconic, coherent, with very good flavor. An excellent choice when early fruit and quality are required.

Taylor Taylor raspberry is considered by most to be the best-flavored variety of red raspberry you can grow. It yields a light-colored, medium-tolarge, long and firm berry. This late-season variety is hardy, vigorous and productive.

Blackberries Chester Blackberry Considered one of the more winter hardy and productive “thornless� varieties available, Chester blackberry produces large, high-quality fruit that ripens in early to mid-August. Fruit has good flavor and does not soften or lose its shiny black color in hot weather. Chester plants are vigorous and show resistance to cane blight.

Caroline raspberry has a larger berry than Heritage and is more productive, with a rich, full, and intense raspberry flavor. It is a very vigorous variety, with more tolerance for root rot than Heritage. The farther south you grow it, the earlier it will ripen. Caroline is widely adapted, growing everywhere from the East Coast to the West Coast. This variety does not tolerate high heat and drought.

Wine Grape Varieties Niagra Niagara is an attractive, productive and vigorous variety with large, slipskin berries, juicy with a strong foxy flavor. Niagara is the leading green grape grown in the United States, used as a table grape and for juices and sweet wines. Although it has a following, Niagara is not known as a high-quality wine grape as it tends to have an abundance of “foxy” flavors and aromas, especially when ripe; harvest at 14° brix or earlier for wine production.

Marquette Marquette is a promising red wine variety that combines high levels of cold hardiness, disease resistance, and excellent wine quality. It has withstood temperatures as low as -36F without serious injury. Moderate disease resistance to infestation by foliar phylloxera. Wines made with Marquette have an attractive deep red color, with aromas of cherry, black pepper, spice, black currant, and berry. Best as a medium-bodied red table wine.

Cayuga White Cayuga White is one of the most productive and disease-resistant varieties grown in New York- Cornell University’s first variety released specifically for wine making. This versatile grape can be made into a semi-dry or sweet wine emphasizing the fruit aromas, or using oak aging, into a dry, less fruity wine. Excellent cultural characteristics and high wine quality promise an important future for this variety. Great cocktail wine with hors d’oeuvres, pork, ham, chicken in cream sauce, and some Asian cuisine.

Steuben

Corot Noir

Vines of Steuben are hardy, vigorous, and easily grown, producing large bluish-black slipskin grapes that resist cracking. Cluster thinning is usually required. Grapes are delicious, sweet and tender with a spicy tang. Very good as a table grape, and makes an excellent red wine.

Corot Noir vines are vigorous and productive with good powdery mildew and botrytis fruit rot resistance. Fruit maturity is late, and cluster thinning is usually required to avoid over-cropping. Corot Noir produces a dry red wine with medium color and pronounced cherry and berry fruit aromas. The wine has big soft tannins with a structure that is complete from the front of the mouth to the back, suitable for a varietal wine or for blending. Pairs well with beef, game, and other hearty dishes. Try with Buffalo chicken wings for something new.

Marechal Foch Marechal Foch is a very early ripening black grape with small berries. Vines are hardy with medium vigor and production. Marechal Foch can be made into a variety of wines ranging from a light red wine similar to Beaujolais, to a more extracted wine with intense dark purple color, black fruit flavor, and a unique varietal character, to a sweet, fortified, port style wine.

Leon Millot Leon Millot is an early ripening black grape, a sister of Marechal Foch but earlier and more productive. Makes a red wine with a distinct berry aroma and a hint of chocolate, can blend well with Marechal Foch. This wine pairs well with red meats, spicy dishes, and Havarti cheese.

Frontenac Gris

Frontenac Gris is a bud sport of Frontenac, identical in most respects but lacking dark skin color. Frontenac Gris is usually cold pressed to make a white wine that can present aromas of peach and apricot with hints of citrus and tropical fruit.

La Crescent La Crescent produces a good quality white wine with apricot-like flavor. The off-dry, sweet white wine pairs well with appetizers, seafood and chicken. La Crescent has excellent winter hardiness with moderate disease resistance that requires a standard spray program.

Espirit

Esprit produces large clusters of large white berries with a mild fruity flavor. Swenson described wines from Esprit as excellent and absent of Labrusca flavor and aroma. One of the least hardy Swenson crosses.

Marquis A vigorous, white seedless grape from the Geneva Breeding Program. This high flavor variety produces spherical berries on large shouldered clusters. Fruit ripens mid-season as is moderately susceptible to powdery mildew. It also makes a nice table wine with hints of pineapple.

Frontenac Blanc Frontenac Blanc is a white-fruited mutation of Frontenac. The variety is relatively new, early wine evaluation suggests it will produce wines distinctly different from Frontenac Gris.

Suffolk Red Suffolk Red produces medium to large, loose clusters of mild-flavored red berries. Winter damage and poor fruit set are often problems, but flavor is outstanding.

Prairie Star Prairie Star has excellent winter hardiness and moderate disease resistance, and is well adapted to a vertical shoot positioning system. This Elmer Swenson selection produces a neutral white wine with good mouth feel and finish. In some years it has a strong floral nose. Prairie Star is also used for blending to help add body to more neutral wines. Fruit matures to excellent sugar content and acidity for wine making.

Kay Gray Kay Gray has small, compact clusters of white to golden berries with mild and fruity Labrusca flavor. Typically makes a neutral wine and is best harvested at 16째 to 18째 brix to avoid the development of objectionable aromatics.

Edelweiss Developed as a table grape, Edelweiss has medium-sized berries on large loose clusters. Wine is usually finished sweet and has pineapple overtones; fruit should be harvested at 14째- 16째 brix to avoid strong Labrusca flavors.

Canadice Canadice produces compact clusters with medium size, pink to light red seedless berries. A slipskin variety with tender and edible skin with a distinct but not overpoweringly labrusca flavor.

Vanessa Vanessa produces medium-sized clusters of bright deep red berries with moderate bloom, firm flesh, and crisp texture. Flavor is mildly aromatic but not of Labrusca type and is considered among the best of red seedless grapes.

Reliance Reliance produces large clusters of round, red, medium-sized berries with tender skin non-adhering to flesh. Color is pink to red when fully mature with delicate Labrusca flavor and aroma, without noticeable seed traces.

Concord Seedless A sport of Concord with clusters and berries smaller than Concord. Fruit matures earlier than Concord with good flavor perfect for pies and preserves.

Table Grape Varieties Thomcord New seedless variety! Thomcord is a cross between Thompson Seedless and Concord - sweet, juicy, and plump. Thomcord has a blue-black skin with a mildly sweet flavor from the Thompson seedless parent, blended with a Concord-like taste. Number one recommended table grape for New Hampshire home owners. Also makes great jelly.

Mars Mars is a productive vine with medium-sized clusters of medium to large slipskin berries that turn from crimson to deep blue at maturity. Fruit has a thick slipskin, resistant to cracking. Fruit holds well on the vine and is suited for extended periods of harvest.

Brianna Brianna produces large clusters of medium size white grapes. It is very cold hardy and shows good fungal resistance. Brianna can be used as a table grape and produces a nice white dessert wine. Wines are semi-sweet with pineapple nose and flavor. Pairs well with chicken, whitefish, and shellfish- in butter or light colored sauces.

Somerset Somerset Seedless is a winter hardy, medium-sized red seedless grape with strawberry-like flavor. Moderately vigorous plants with small to medium sized compact clusters. Somerset is quite disease resistant but requires a typical spray program for downy mildew control. Grapes are edible at the pink stage in August but much more flavorful and sweeter if left to ripen to full red. Great for juice and jelly.
