DREAMERS FOLLY
WILLEM DE KOONING ACADEMY SPATIAL DESIGN FEBRUARI 2016
DREAMERS FOLLY ABOUT People have a longing for clouds because they are far away and off the map. A desire arises by being confronted daily with the intangible. Dreamers Folly is a temporary and public installation that is made from 100% reusable materials. The folly makes the unreachable tangible, it is a place that blurs boundaries. Inside you are alienated from the world outside, the idea of being inside a cloud ensures you to escape from the outside world and makes you relax completely.

MUSEUMPLEIN
WILLEM DE KOONING ACADEMY SPATIAL DESIGN JUNE 2016
MUSEUMPLEIN ABOUT The Museumpark of Rotterdam will be upgraded with the addition of the new Collectiegebouw from architects MVRDV. In this project, the public space of the park is researched. Within the theme: a positive outdoor space, the Museumpark has been transformed into the Museumplein. In my opinion, in the current situation, the museums are not positioned well and they are too far away from each other. The museums would be more united when they are surrounding a square altogether. Based on this idea, figure-ground studies have been carried out in order to create a positive outdoor space. An outdoor space is positive when it has a clear form and when this form is as important as the buildings surrounding it. Ultimately, the existing museums were placed in the usable space of the Museumpark. The Collectiegebouw has been turned upside down and put back halfway in the ground, to break open the positive outdoor space of the square. Subsequently, a design for the surrounding park is made, based on a flowing route through the park. All this together creates a monumental appearance because of the location next to a large square: the Museumplein of Rotterdam. More on wdaveka.tumblr.com

Good preparation is key to a successful presentation. I knew my project very well so I was able to prepare my presentation to the smallest detail.

HAARLEM HUB
WILLEM DE KOONING ACADEMY SPATIAL DESIGN JULY 2018
HAARLEM HUB ABOUT After having been in service of Haarlem for 115 years, the dome prison closed its doors in 2016. The dome is the icon of Haarlem but does not add value to the city without a destination. The vacant complex will be repurposed with a function that connects with the historic city. The repurposing increases the livability of the inner city.

CITY The dome prison of Haarlem is the icon of the city. In the current situation the prison complex does not integrate naturally with the historic city centre of Haarlem, but as a connection to the Bolwerken park, it can complete the centre.
DISTRICT Within the historic city centre, there is little public space left due to densification of the city. The location of the dome and the enormous space for traffic are perfect for a large scale public function such as a park.
27
HAARLEM HUB COMPLEX By reducing the complex to the original historic buildings, breaking up the surrounding wall and dampening car traffic, a lot of space can be released. The dome prison will have a public appearance and the cathedral effect will be felt again.
CURRENT SITUATION
HISTORIC SITUATION
28
USE The vacant building and its surroundings are transformed into a city park with the dome as an indoor public square. Haarlem Hub will be the centre of activity in the city. The meeting of permanent and temporary functions ensures a constantly lively place. The repurposing improves the living environment of the city and completes the urban fabric of the historic city centre.
