about me As architects, we are designing for the future world and I believe we should take this responsibility seriously. As a student growing up in an environmental crisis I fully believe in a sustainable future where we mainly reuse material to create long-lasting architecture. The development of the built environment is important to continue to meet human needs. Buildings must be able to adapt their function and use over time. For me, it is precisely the layers of history that make our built environment richer.
My inspiration in life comes from the existing, that what is already there. I strive to adopt history and use it as a basis to write a new chapter. My interest lies in future-proof and transformative design. I have a unique way of thinking and an affinity for graphic design, my bright and positive ideas result in conceptual works. With architecture, I dream to make the world a more durable and beautiful place.

Nieuw Vechtleven extension and redevelopment old monastery
about Years ago, somewhere on estate Doornburg near the Vecht, the small villa Vechtleven was located. This location is reintroduced with the extension for an artist and science centre. The extension inherits the values from the existing Priory Emmaus: horizontal and diagonal divisions, closed-off character, and transition spaces between the outdoor and indoor. The sequence of spaces in the

monastery continues on both sides into the extensions, different room typologies create a diverse architectural promenade.

surroundings. These principles are visible in the extension, adding a new order to the introverted character of the monastery. The glass facade offers a 360° view of the surroundings, adding an extroverted character. It is visible how the repeated columns in the facade have their typology next to the design by Jan de Jong and go into a direct conversation by intersecting the building in the public

Museum of the Future visionary perspective on the future
about Humans have become experienced with controlling water, in Hafencity however, the water controls the whole area. Why would we develop new architecture in areas prone to natural disasters? What happens when the sea level dramatically rises and Hafencity is permanently flooded? The Museum of the Future is the solution to the rising sea level. It will be a floating art hall that interacts with

construction Unlike the old buildings, this building will be fully functional during a flood because of its OFF-GRID systems. Rainwater will be collected and purified for drinking water and the river water will be cleaned and used for greywater. Energy will be collected by solar panels located on the southwest and by the tides that flood the basement. This same system fills up the basement with water during tides, in this way the building height will be regulated. During a flood, the building will start to rise with the water and it will float like Noah’s ark.

Ruigeplaathuis an effortless sports complex plan
about The municipal monument De Nieuwe Maaskant at the Schiehaven in Rotterdam is extended and transformed to create a sports college. The building tells the story of the historic site and the industrial past of the location. The design focuses on views on sports, nature and people to stimulate physical activity. The floor plan is designed in such a way that the user of the building

intuitively understands where they are headed.

TU DELFT PRE-MASTER ARCHITECTURE JUNE 2020
plan A subtle rotation in the floor plan connects the two buildings and creates clear guiding lines for circulation through the design. The historic building houses study spaces, offices and facilitatory functions. To fit in the program of requirements, next to the existing Maaskant building, the sports functions are added. The atrium in the middle of the building glues together the existing and the new architecture.

use The view of stairs in a building is very important to encourage their use. In this plan, the stairs are positioned on the shortest route through the building, and elevators are placed out of sight. Physical activity is encouraged through the views of sports spaces, nature, people and activity throughout the programmed spaces.

Haarlem Hub making heritage public property
about After having been in service for 115 years, the dome prison of Haarlem closed its doors in 2016. The dome is the icon of Haarlem but does not add value to the area without a destination. The vacant complex must be reused with a function that connects with the historic city. The repurposing increases the livability of the inner city.

Haarlem Hub city The dome prison of Haarlem is the icon of the city. In the current situation, the prison complex does not integrate naturally with the historic city centre of Haarlem. As a connection to the Bolwerken park, it can complete the centre.
area Within the historic city centre, there is little public space left due to the city densification. The location of the dome and the enormous open area for traffic are perfect for a large scale public function such as a park.

plan Much space becomes available when reducing the complex to the original historic buildings, breaking up the surrounding wall and dampening car traffic. The dome prison will have a public appearance and the cathedral-like view will become visible.
use The vacant building and its surroundings are transformed into a city park with the dome as an indoor public square. Haarlem Hub will be the centre of activity in the city. The meeting of permanent and temporary functions ensures a constantly lively place. The repurposing of the prison improves the living conditions of the city diagram current situation

Museumplein Rotterdam a conceptual transformation
about The Museumpark of Rotterdam is reshaped with the addition of the new Depot building by architect company MVRDV. In this project, the public space of the park is investigated. Within the theme: a positive outdoor space, the Museumpark is transformed into a square: Museumplein.
WILLEM DE KOONING ACADEMY SPATIAL DESIGN JUNE 2016 #CONCEPTUAL #PUBLIC #TRANSFORMATION
33
Museumplein Rotterdam

area In the current situation, the museums are not positioned properly towards each other. The architecture in the park would be more united when they surround a square altogether. Based on this idea, figure-ground studies are carried out to create a positive outdoor space. An outdoor space is positive when it has a clear form and when this form is as important as the buildings surrounding it.

plan Ultimately, the existing museums were placed in the usable space of the Museumpark. The Depot building is turned upside down and put back in the ground, to break open the positive outdoor space of the square. Subsequently, a design for the surrounding park is made, based on the flows through the park. All this together creates a monumental appearance because of the positioning to a large square: the Museumplein of Rotterdam.

DAVE VAN LEEUWEN FURNITURE DESIGN FEBRUARY 2021
furniture design A project I have been thinking about for years was making my own wardrobe. My taste for cupboards is very specific, I am very fond of dresser-like furniture where you can use the cupboard as a proper object in the room, a piece of furniture that is a part of the interior. Most standardized closets are vertically oriented and you can not use the top of the wardrobe. Standardized shelves are very wide, but not wide enough to place two stacks of clothes next to each other. I tailored this cupboard for my personal needs, with 30 cm wide shelves that fit one stack of clothes perfectly. The closet is horizontal focussed and the top is used for decoration purposes. The colour and the clean volume makes for a real eye-catcher in the room.
