I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix, angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night, who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz, who bared their brains to medan angels staggering on
Heaven under the El and saw Mohamtenement roofs illuminated,
who passed through universiArkansas and Blake-light trag-
ties with radiant eyes hallucinating edy among the scholars of war,
who were expelled from the obscene odes on the windows
academies for crazy & publishing of the skull,
who cowered in unshaven money in wastebaskets and wall,
rooms in underwear, burning their listening to the Terror through the
who got busted in their pubic a belt of marijuana for New
beards returning through Laredo with York,
who ate fire in paint hotels or death, or purgatoried their torsos night after night
drank turpentine in Paradise Alley,
with dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares, alcohol and cock and endless balls, incomparable blind streets of shuddering cloud and lightning in the mind leaping towards poles of Canada & Paterson, illuminating all the motionless world of Time between, Peyote solidities of halls, backyard green tree cemetery dawns, wine drunkenness over the rooftops, storefront boroughs of teahead joyride neon blinking traffic light, sun and moon and tree vibrations in the roaring winter dusks of Brooklyn, ashcan rantings and kind king light of mind,
FLORA GRUBB IS IN THEHEART OF HUNTERS POINT... BUT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SPOTS... BASICALLY A NURSURY... IT SELL A VIBE AND HAS A CAFE AND COFFEE SHOP AS WELL AS BOOK STORE AND GUEST SPEAKERS ON TOPICS THAT MIGHT INCLUDE REPLACING YOUR LAWN WITH EDIBLES, SHEET MULCHING, NATIVES....
SF MISSION DISTRICT-- VALENCIA STREET
PAXTON GATE One of my favorite stores on Valencia Street... Just for its originality and image... a strange combination of exotic plants, taxidermy, science, art, butterflies and Jr. science experiments. I’ve never taken someone to Paxton Gate who was not mesmerized by the experience of lingering here.
We all have our heroes... and Dave Eggers would certainly be one of mine. Not only a brilliant writer he has this crazy shop on Valencia Street and in the back he has after school writing program for under-served kids in the mission
