Batting records that could not be broken in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 has come to an end and the World has now seen a new World Champion-England. Many records were broken and new made in this mega tournament. However, there are a few records which still remain intact, which could have been broken this year but did not, falling agonisingly short of the mark. Let’s take a look at those records:

Most runs in a single World Cup The record for scoring most runs in a single World Cup belongs to Sachin Tendulkar. In the 2003 edition of the tournament, in which India finished runners up, Sachin amassed 673 runs in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma looked all set to go past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally this time around. Prior to the semifinal against New Zealand, Rohit needed just 27 runs to go past Sachin’s tally but the Hitman had a rare failure that day and departed for just 1 run. Nonetheless Rohit’s tally of 648 runs was the highest ever scored in ICC Cricket World Cup.

Most centuries in World Cup history Right-handed opening batsman was in fact having a golden run with the bat in this tournament this year. Rohit scored five centuries in a single tournament becoming the batsman with most centuries in a single edition of World Cup. He also equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of maximum centuries (six) in the ICC World Cup. However, he could not break the Master Blaster’s record as he got out for just 1 run in the semi-final, which India lost to New Zealand. Rohit might have a chance to play another World Cup but four years is a long time in a sportsperson’s career and it would be too early to say that he might break at least this record in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Fans are now hoping that India continue the trend of winning the World Cup at home and lifts the Cup in 2023 at their own backyard.
