Us Open 2019: Serena Williams Eyeing 24th Grand Slam Title; Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep Optimistic about Their Chances Too

The first round of US Open will see the 37-year-old American tennis star Serena Williams take the court against Russian tennis icon Maria Sharapova on Monday in perhaps one of the most anticipated tennis clashes of the year. Us Open Champion Has Her Eyes Set on Serena’s Clash The last year’s champion of the US Open, Naomi Osaka, in the women’s singles category has her eyes set on Serena William’s opening round match against Sharapova. Naomi Osaka has in fact said that she will go to watch the match and she feels that everyone living in New York is looking forward to that match. She said that every tournament has some or the other dramatic matches in them and this year the Sharapova-Williams clash will get the US Open off to a fantastic start. Chance to create history Serena Williams will once again try and equal the record for the most number of singles Grand Slam titles. Williams might have to face higher seeded Ashleigh Barty in the quarter finals of the match. Notably, Williams has not been able to win a single Grand Slam win after clinching the 2017 Australian Open.

She has experienced defeats in the US Open and also lost the last two Wimbledon finals, which includes the loss against Simona Halep. Barty, Osaka, Halep and Karolina Pliskova, who is eyeing her first Grand slam title, will be the challenges that Serena Williams might have to overcome to reach the historic land mark.

Williams targeting big goals In the beginning of the month, Williams stated that she feels that reaching the record 24th Grand slam title in the singles category is definitely possible and she is eyeing the bigger goals at this stage of her career and 24 Grand Slam titles is one of those big goals. However, she also admitted that there are important things in her life other than Tennis.

Naomi Osaka confident of her chances Despite being bowed out of the tournament in the first round of the Wimbledon Tournament this time around, Osaka has been in good form. She has also stated that the last time around she had been defeated in three back to back matches prior to the beginning of the competition and desperately wanted to win the first match. She added that she took it one match at a time from there and eventually won the tournament. Notably, this will the first time Osaka will defend a Grand Slam title. Halep has her hopes high as well Halep, who was bowed out of the first round of US Open, on previous two occasions, is full of confidence after beating Williams in the Wimbledon. Halep stated that this cannot get worse from her previous two US Open outings. Moreover, she is feeling good about her fitness and form and is not under pressure to perform.
