The course provided the opportunity to explore the methods and techniques of using marker, and provided skills that can be used throughout the design process. The skills and techniques prove useful, not only for final renderings, but for quick sketches and drawings as you work through the design process. Using marker is a quick and effective way to add color and more information to your drawings. It is exceedingly beneficial for conveying ideas and making drawings more readable and easier to understand. With the technology that exists today, it can be easy to get caught up in trying to render everything realistically on the computer. It can become time consuming and in the initial design phases, it’s not very practical. Marker allows for a quick render to get the ideas on the paper, while still providing a visual representation of materiality and shadow. It is a great design tool to get your ideas across quickly and effectively. What is most appreciated with marker is the diversity in techniques between individuals. Throughout the course we were taught the same techniques, but each student took what they learned and created their own style. Through the use of stroke types and technique of how the marker was applied each student would create a unique drawing. That individuality is valuable and important when trying to convey their own designs and work. Marker rendering provides an opportunity to quickly and effectively convey your design intentions. It makes a great design tool when exploring different options and ideas quickly and should be taken advantage of.
