Sandgate Library Knit and Natter group has been meeting regularly for the past ten years or so, every second and fourth Tuesday in the month between 10a.m. and noon. Over recent months the group has increased in membership and now the circle of chairs often needs to enlarge itself a few times during each session as members arrive to join in. We don’t only knit, some of us crochet too and there’s even the odd bit of sewing done as well. Knit for Peace is just one of the many worthwhile causes our members choose to support. This organisation, based in London, collects handmade items from groups like ours, and individuals, from across the British Isles and distributes these to wherever in the world there’s a need. Our members regularly donate blankets, scarves, jumpers for children and adults, hats, gloves, teddy bears and the amazing ‘Twiddlemuffs’ used to help patients with dementia or post operative hospital patients. More information about these unique creations may be found on the Knit for Peace website https:// knitforpeace.org.uk/, or by visiting their Facebook page where you may also see a picture of a recent cardigan knitted by one of our members, Janice, which was featured as the Knit of the Day! Or, of course, you can always come along to join us in Sandgate Library for one of our regular meetings and learn first hand about what we do. We don’t always give everything away of course we are allowed to make ourselves something! 5

To commission a painting by talented Sandgate residing artist Malcolm Ritchie costs less than you think and provides a valued, timeless and unique gift. Malcolm has been painting and drawing for most of his life and works in all mediums and subjects. My subjects, he says, inspire me. You're just a click away from looking at some more of his work and arranging an informal chat about what's on your mind.
You'll find me here #MalcolmRitchie

Do you have a passion for all things photographic? It doesn’t matter if you use a high end camera or fantastic phone camera, Folkestone Camera Club provides an opportunity to improve your photographic skills and knowledge. We run ‘learn more’ educational evenings to help you to develop new skills and a 'meet up' programme to share your knowledge with other people, like you, who are also keen to learn more about photography. Our members continued page 25

have varying levels of expertise but the one thing we all have in common is the need to continue learning and the willingness to help each other. There is always something new to learn in the world of photography. Many people love to test their photographic skills in friendly competitions. Our competition nights provide you with a barometer to gauge your skills as a photographer against other members of the club. For our major competitions we invite an external judge to access and comment on our images. Sometimes we like what they say and sometimes we don’t! Come along and judge for yourself. Our forthcoming programme, for the new season, can be viewed on our website: folkestonecameraclub.co.uk along with galleries of last season’s images from our members. The new season starts on Monday, September 9, Please come and come and try a few nights before you join us. We meet at St Georges Church, Audley Road, Folkestone 7.30 pm
