Old Hall Farm has provided the Sandgate Farmers' Market with high quality, traditionally reared meat, eggs and sausages almost since the beginning and now they are branching out into fruit and vegetables. You'll not find any oranges or bananas on the Marsh Produce stall as they will only sell what can be sourced locally - mainly in Kent but occasionally further afield. Please support this new initiative and help them build a product range that meets your needs.

One Man, Two Guvnors’
An Amateur Production by kind permission of Samuel French Co Ltd
Written by Richard Bean Directed by Pete Raine and Fanny Richmond
The Folkestone - Hythe, Operatic & Dramatic Society
Presents
Another sparkling play for 2016. The Folkestone-Hythe operatic & Dramatic Society present outstanding comedy One Man, Two Guvnors at the Tower Theatre. Thought to be by many to be one of the funniest plays of the last few years. In 1960s Brighton, a socially naive Francis Henshall becomes separately employed by two men – Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster, and Stanley Stubbers, an upper class criminal. Francis tries to keep the two from meeting, in order to avoid each of them learning that Francis is also working for someone else. However, it turns out that Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe in disguise, her twin brother Roscoe having been killed by her lover, who is none other than Stanley Stubbers. Mixed in with these chaotic events is Pauline Clench who was originally meant to marry Roscoe but is now set to elope with over-the-top amateur actor Alan Dangle. The play runs from Wednesday 2nd November to Saturday 5th. Start time 7.30 p.m. with a matinee on 5th November at 2.30 p.m. Tickets prices: £11.00 Full £10.00 Concessions £7.00 U14's

Can You Give a Cat a Good Home? Cats are the second most popular pet in this country, with an estimated 17% of households owning one! Unfortunately, the number of unwanted cats has risen sharply and charities such as the Folkestone and Hythe Branch of Cats Protection are struggling to cope with the massive intake of unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens. Cats like Twizzle, (left) who has now been in the care of the Branch for six months and has been overlooked because he is a quiet boy, but would love a home with a garden whilst it is still Summer. And Poor Zukie (right) is another overlooked cat and has been with one of our fosterers for several months. Cats make ideal pets, providing companionship, not needing exercising and are able to clean themselves. But there are also costs to consider; not just food, litter and toys, but also routine healthcare/vaccinations and any boarding costs, as well as an emergency fund for treating injuries and illnesses. If medical costs are a potential concern, pet insurance is a great option for owners that want the best for their cat/kitten, but are on a budget. If you would like further information about any of our cats and can provide a good home for one of those featured – or one of the many others currently in our care – please contact: 01303 247540 or 01303 237744 at Folkestone and Hythe Cats Protection. Twizzle is a very big and very laid-back cat and is a gentle giant who enjoys being groomed. He loves human company but he isn’t a cat to crave attention all of the time. Twizzle would benefit from a home with older people rather than a young family as he likes the quiet life. He had been straying for a very long time so his age is a best guess, but it is thought he is between five and eight years old. Zukie is another of our overlooked cats and has been with us for several months. We are not sure why this is because Zukie is a very beautiful tabby/tortie neutered female cat. She came to Cats Protection when her owner could no longer care for her and is twelve years old, but looks and acts younger. She purrs constantly, is a very contented cat and would benefit from being in a single cat household. 13

Did you know that September is the ninth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars and one of four months with a length of 30 days. September in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent of March in the Southern Hemisphere. In the Northern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological autumn is on 1 September. September (from Latin septem, "seven") was originally the seventh of ten months on the oldest known Roman calendar, with March (Latin Martius) the first month of the year until perhaps as late as 153 BC. After the calendar reform that added January and February to the beginning of the year, September became the ninth month, but retained its name. It had 29 days until the Julian reform, which added a day. September marks the beginning of the ecclesiastical year in the Eastern Orthodox Church. It is the start of the academic year in many countries, in which children go back to school after the summer break, sometimes on the first day of the month. The autumnal equinox in the northern hemisphere and the vernal or spring equinox in the southern hemisphere occur on dates varying from 21 September to 24 September (in UTC). In the pagan wheel of the year the spring equinox is the time of Ostara and is celebrated on the first Sunday of September. 16

FOLKESTONE QUAKERS NOW MEET IN SANDGATE We would like everyone to know that from 31st July we are holding our Meetings for Worship in
ST. PAUL’S CHURCH HALL st
on the 1 , 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month at 10.30am Anyone is welcome to join us. A Quaker Meeting for Worship is very simple and may be just what you need. It is a coming together in silence in which we ponder the deep issues of life without the constraints of pre-fixed beliefs. Anyone can share a heartfelt thought in the meeting. We don’t answer it or discuss it - we just receive it. In some meetings no-one speaks at all. The meeting ends with handshake and chat over coffee or tea. We also hold house discussion groups and monthly social coffee chats. Quakers have always been prepared to speak out on social issues and act on their convictions, resulting in the practical and social action that we have been known for over the years.
The Quakers will be at this week's Farmers' Market
