SYMPHONIE DER DIVERSITÄT URBAN REGENERATION
Thesis Work / 2018 / P. Desideri, K. Waldschmidt
The history of Berlin is strictly connected to the topic of immigration, the consequence of this is the presence here of one of the most multicultural societies in Europe. In a city influenced by such a complexity the presence of the “diverse” is not conceived as an emergency, nevertheless it is conceived as a structural fact that could question our idea of belonging. The foreigner represents an added value that could promote a radical and contemporary urban renovation, due to his inner nature which connects two incompatible elements such as mobility and stasis. In such a scenario the Architecture becomes a bridge for a cultural exchange of values between the inner and the outer urban fabric. The historical district of Kreuzberg has, since after the war, become the destination for a large number of students, artists and immigrants, making it one of the most multicultural and densely populated area of Berlin.
The evocative site chosen for the project is the Lohmühleninsel, which is an artificial island located in the core of the district of Kreuzberg, facing the cold water of the river Sprea and once presided over by the Berliner Mauer (the Wall). This place represents the ideal location to start a programme which aims to integrate the different cultures that live nearby. This programme builds on the design of a hub that promotes diversity as the strongest quality of a heterogeneous culture. The evolution of these intentions is embodied in a interreligious centre located at the top of the island which is surrounded by green and has a direct and immediate relationship with the river Sprea. This project wants to give back to the community a valuable area which is now intended just for industrial and economic purposes, estabilishing at the same time a renewed relatioship between the city and its inhabitants.

BARI COSTA SUD SUBURBAN RECONNECTION
Competition / 2018 / T SPOON
The project is located on the South-West coast of the city of Bari. This area is characterized by a fragmented and heterogeneous landscape, which does not have a unitary identity. It is immediately recognizable how the shape of city presents itself as clear and structured, nevertheless not completed, if we get closer to the center. On the other side of the natural canal “Lama Valenzano” we find a very different situation, derived from the late Century urban planning. The city here is composed of smaller parts of a bigger totality which never actually existed. Density and stratification strategies seem useless in this scenario. Let’s then change the point of view, trying to ricognize this discontinuous pattern as a value to be preserved. Let’s try to recognize the nature of this different parts as authonomous and independent realities in need to be completed and densified. The void becomes the structural element that could keep this diversity together, making the space between these islands the common ground to work on the complex identity of this place. The proposal is to take advantage of the presence on the waterfront of the old railway and to make it a backbone able to give structure to the transformation: an important axis for the local public transport which goes together with the new cycle path. A fundamental role is played by the poles which intersect the railway.
What once was a limit in the landscape now becomes a linking element, a permeable space which grants connection between the indipendent spaces of the suburbs. This strategy goes together with the creation of new cultural hubs all along the path of the tram on the waterfront. The functions are studied to enhance the attraction at a urban scale, with the definition of common spaces for culture, education sport and leisure, able to build a local scale identity. The other theme faced in this competition is the existence of several areas which divide the environment according to its natural and artificial aspect: the waterfront, the belt behind the coast, the residential area on via Gentile and the natural systems, including the agricultural and water system. The relationship between these parts is seen as a complex rythm of moving borders, a membraneous system which has a high level of porosity. The rythm builds new relationships and interactions so that the areas on the border can acquire a peculiar value becoming the meeting point for different realities. The project sets its concept on the need to avoid wasting economical resources and spaces, with the idea of a unique programme founded on synergy: re-using the existing buildings and renovate them; releasing the waterfront; densifying the existing urban textures; intensifying functions and activities.

BERLIN DEN-CITY TOWER PARK
Academic Work / 2016 / D. Fink The project rises in the area of Berlin West included between the campus of the Technische Universität Berlin and the Zoologischer Garten. This place is also marked by the presence of the S-Bahn Station of the Zoo. This area is passing through a strong building development and the will is to insert the project into this tendency and to regulate it; so the choice falls on the typology of the skyscraper. This decision depends both on the main theme of the project, which is the densification of the existing city, and on the strong necessity for an area like this one to face a strong renewal
in order to meet the new needs of the constantly evolving European Capital. The main topic of the project is meant to be the new square of the station, with the design of new public spaces that follows the tradition of European cities. This square works together with the existing one and it creates a connection between this new area of development, the settled city and the university campus. The skyscrapers dramatically increase the vertical direction of the project lines and while defining the dimension of the public square, they also tell us the story of a modern city as Berlin.

JÄGERPARK INTENSIVE HOUSING
Professional Experience / 2016 / Tchoban Voss At the limit between city and nature: located directly on the Dresden Forest and on the northern edge of the city, a 10 hectare residential area is planned. Jägerpark Dresden has been designed as a city district that has grown in line with demographic changes, with a high degree of social and spatial flexibility of living arrangements. Particular consideration was given to the demand for an aesthetically pleasing, clearly structured residential area that was well mixed with regard to private and public spaces. In the overall design, the open-space planning concept played an important role in making the transition from urban space to nature reserve as appealing and fluid as possible. The terraced area is traffic-calmed and adjoins a commercial and health center on its eastern edge. Divided into an eastern and western subdivision, the buildings are grouped around two “entree sites”. These two squares offer barrier-free access to the green, centrally-located boulevard, which serves as a pedestrian and cycle path for internal exploration. Another two ring roads
open up the quarter from the outside. Differently weighted emphases give the overall system more individuality - such as the wooden walkway, which empties from the eastern square in an observation deck overlooking the Dresden Forest. The wide range of recreational opportunities with water level pools, benches, a boulevard and a café make the eastern square an open-minded and lively place to stay. In the western part of the area there are two playgrounds. To create a closed appearance in terms of urban planning, all construction volumes are planned at the same height and equipped with a staggered attic floor. For the cladding of the building differently colored brick is to be used. In combination, all openings, loggias and entrances to architectural concrete elements are emphasized. Overall, a sustainable and energy-efficient design is sought. The new quarter is not only intended to create new living spaces on the Dresden Forest, indeed the Jägerpark is also intended to serve as an impetus for innovation and appreciation in its neighborhood.

PERFORMING HOUSING SOCIAL HOUSING
Academic Work / 2015 / G. Longobardi This renovation project is located in San Lorenzo, a historical district of Rome. The building is located where once stood one of the residential buildings that were destroied by the bombings of the Second World War. The plot is surrounded by some of the main axes of the borough and the only side that doesn’t face the street directly borders with an existing building that has a commercial ground floor and residences on the other floors. The project is composed of two separate volumes easily distinguishable one from another, because of their shape and of their functions: residential building and an arts & crafts atelier.
The residences are intended for young couples, students and workers; they are based on a simple module and structured into different typologies (the simplex and the duplex). They are designed to give confortable and quality spaces where to live the private dimension and the public dimension of the neighbourhood without giving anything up. Besides a necessary reflection on the space, particular attention is dedicated to the natural ventilation and illumination. The best orientation is indeed the one facing the South; this side is completely open and it meets the central square and the atelier building with alterned loggias and bright bay-windows.

SKETCHBOOK DRAWINGS AND SKETCHES
Art Work
This is a work in progress section of my portfolio. It shows part of my drawings and sketches which are not directly connected and referred to my architectural experience and education. One of my biggest passion is drawing, so sketches and hand drawings are one of my favourite ways to express the influence that the world surrounding me has on my imagination. The time spent at the Architecture Faculty taught me how to work with proportions, perspective, lights and shadows, colours and volumes composition.
Nevertheless I think that artistic expression (beside technical drawing) will always be one of the most powerfull means to realize ideas of all shapes and dimensions. I am currently attending drawing and life drawing classes and I expect this last section of my works to expand as soon as possible. In the same way I am strongly training my self to grow my skills and drawing techniques. I believe in art as a mean to rise our spirit to a better and nobler condition and at the same time as one of the strongest human achievements.
