SOCIAL JUSTICE POSTER

In class hand sketch 1

In class hand sketch 2

In completing the “Social Justice Poster I learned the following concepts: 1. Separate things into the foreground, middle ground, background. 2. Sketch and organize the ideas. 3. Consider giving the views in the poster more shocking and relatable statistics. 4. Learn the important values of a good poster as well as in Architecture.

SOCIAL JUSTICE POSTER My Issue Statement is The human right to food in India. Many people around the world throw away food every year, that’s still good enough to eat. That food waste could feed millions. According to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization, 13.1% of people are hungry, and 33% of the food is wasted. Nearly 40% of the food produced in the world is never eaten. In India, people waste nearly the same amount of food that the United Kingdom consumes– a statistic that may not be so much indicative of our love of the excess, as it is of our population. Still, food wastage is an alarming issue in India. Our street and garbage bins, landfills have sufficient proof to prove it. Weddings, canteens, hotels, social and family functions, households expel out so much food. According to the United Nations Development Program, up to 67 million tons of the food produced in India is wasted as oppose to 40%. About 21 million tons of wheat is wasted in India and the same situation is with 50% of all food across the world and never reaches the needy. I think it is unfair that some poor countries still don’t have enough food for people, especially, the starving children in India. That food waste can feed the entire starving population in India. In my viewpoint, the government should take good measures to waste less to feed more. People are guilty of overconsumption, and of throwing away so much food needlessly. It is actually affecting the global demand for food and global food prices. The two are connected. If they reduce our global food waste, it can feed every starving child, man, and woman three times over, year after year. It is true that Italy’s annual food waste can feed the entire starving population of Ethiopia in Africa. If every man, woman, and child on this planet had enough food, they would be as happy as a clam. The garbage is not just garbage. It is the key to change the future. We don’t throw away that key. Food is not only food. It is power in life. People don’t waste that power and should stop wasting food.

SOCIAL JUSTICE POSTER

I put map of India on the poster to highlight specific story. Moreover, I give a specific percent to let readers know about the current situation.

Version 2

SOCIAL JUSTICE POSTER

I consider giving the views more shocking and relatable statistics. For instance, 67 million tons of food is wasted every year as oppose to 40%. Something that is not only relatable but eye opening. 40% is not helpful unless I know what is the total.

Reflection. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Refining the graphics. 2. Considering multiple graphic approaches. 3. Sketching ideas to match specific story. 4. Adjusting sizes and colors for text.

MIDCENTURY MODERN Name of Building Milam Residence House Description The Milam Residence, the last house built in 1961 by Rudolph in Florida, is situated in Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville, USA. The walls and floors are elongated, to create elaborate forms that extend toward the South, and toward the views of the Atlantic Ocean. One of the few practical uses of the structural patterns of the facade is to block the strong rays of the Florida sun. This brises-soleil also acts as mullions for the glass of the windows, converting the exterior wall into a complex of deep openings that are filled only with glass. In completing the “MID CENTURY MODERN IN SAN FRANCISCO photo research, I learned the following things: Researching Images 1. Learn unique design styles from designers such as Paul Rodolph, Mies van der Rohe, Richard Meier, etc. 2. Get a right floor plans to redesign the building on Sketch Up. 3. Find as many images to discuss and make the decisions. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Original floor plans to build the model. 2. Finding interesting and unique buildings.

Placing the horizon line on the top third of the page also works for low birds’ eye shots. 3. Podium might take a lot of time to get the effect. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Use marks tool deeply in Photoshop. 2. Consider the views and people with horizon line. 3. Consider shadow and light.

In completing the Presentation Board, I learned about the following concepts: 1. Use graphics and text to represent my design idea and clearly communicate the details and essential aspects of the scheme. 2. Present the idea to participants in research. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Consider the size of the images. 2. Expand the ideas and consider the visual hierarchy

UNHAPPY HIPSTER Name of Building Metro Office Description The “Unhappy Hipster” was a project that explored lighting and inputting new programing into an existing building. Originally Milam Residence House in Jacksonville, USA, showed the best interior in living room that what architect wanted to point out his design and ideas. Now the house is located in San Francisco and near the Golden Gate Bridge. It is become a branch office of Metro where the open space office and meeting room are highlighted in the rendering.

In completing the “Unhappy Hipster” photo research, I learned the following things: Researching Images 1. Less image of interior from Milam Residence House. 2. Get a modern design from original interior designs. 3. Have just black and white in original photos. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Get the photos having colors. 2. Research the buildings having more views in interior designs.

SERIAL VERSION MAPS

The route map Following the yellow path on the map, our mid-morning journey begins in the Inner Sunset District on the corner of 9th Ave, and Irving St. We’ll proceed on 9th Ave toward Lincoln Way to the Hall of Flowers and the adjacent Botanical Gardens. The journey takes a circuitous route along 9th Ave./Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. to Music Concourse Dr and then follows a peaceful path to Shakespeare Garden.

In completing the route map, I learned about the following concepts: 1. Show the path as motion. 2. Repeat the map and show the next path. 3. Add more stops by number. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Highlight and note the name of location at the bottom of map. 2. Size of the path and frame of the map.

SERIAL VERSION ROUGH CUT VIDEO AND SCRIPT Script: Arriving by Muni light-rail, we walk down 9th Ave. toward Lincoln Way. We are presented with the sights and sounds typical of many vibrant San Francisco neighborhoods of apartments, cafes, restaurants, and local businesses. A contrast of colors, textures, and styles reflect a diverse combination of architectural styles and interior design.

Entering the park, 9th Ave. becomes Martin Luther King Jr Drive. We first approach the San Francisco County Fair Building, also known as the Hall of Flowers, we are presented with a great example of American mid-century modern architecture characterized by its single-story design with a rising angular roof and symmetrical arrangement of corner window panels.

SERIAL VERSION ROUGH CUT VIDEO AND SCRIPT Script: It starts as a fairly open path with long grasses and medium-height to tall shrubs until tall trees and their far-reaching limbs enclose the path shielding parents and their ambling children from the typical city sounds and the beating sun or the occasional heavy drizzle. A mysterious decision arises as the path splits into two directions; each whose meandering pathway is obscured by shrubs and trees. We make an educated decision and proceed to the right passing a small grove of tall conifer trees.

If not paying attention, one can completely bypass our final destination; hidden by a fence overgrown with vines and shrubs. An ornate decorative arch supported by brick columns denotes the space and frames our entrance into Shakespeare Garden.

22A: Architecture Rendering and Delineation | City College of San Francisco | Page 49

SERIAL VERSION ROUGH CUT VIDEO AND SCRIPT Script: A narrow brick walk, nestled beneath a canopy of symmetrical rows of trees focuses the eye on a sundial midway down the walkway. Continuing to the end of the walkway, we were presented with a majestic cypress tree and a wide expanse of grass leading to a somewhat classical monument memorializing William Shakespeare. The juxtaposition of calming gestural Tai Chi movements of the garden guests against the backdrop of the memorial is interestingly different.

In completing the Rough Cut Video, I learned about the following concepts: 1. Keep camera stabilizer when shooting video. 2. Add some musics, texts, lights and transition next scenes. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Limit the time of video. 2. Consider up and down of sounds effect for every shot of video.

SERIAL VERSION In completing this portfolio using Indesign, I learn about the following concepts: 1. Understand important values using Indesign. 2. Use to combine text, images, vectors and other prepared content into a finished product for publishing. Next time I do this, I will be more careful with: 1. Check the Portfolio before export to PDF file. 2. Consider to use for layout .
