Incoming, Jared Small’s newest collection of paintings, delves into themes of impermanence and fragility with his signature photorealistic depictions. Presented in pairs, each work juxtaposes an aging, weathered house with a vibrant bouquet or single flower in the same color. The fresh, full-bloom florals stand in striking contrast to the slowly eroding bungalows, highlighting the fleeting nature of both manmade and natural beauty. Small’s hyperrealistic style enhances this dialogue, drawing the viewer into a poignant meditation on the passage of time.
Jared Small, born in Memphis in 1980, attended Overton High School and the University of Memphis. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Tennessee and a major solo exhibition at the Huntsville Museum of Art. His work is featured in the permanent collections of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and the Huntsville Museum of Art, as well as multiple private collections in Memphis and across the Southeastern U.S.
