legacy 1 : instead of extending glasgow’s subway network to the eastend of the city and genuinely improving the cycle path network, glasgow city council and the scottish government decided to plough another motorway and more roads though the city.
legacy 2 : the accord day centre for adults with learning disabilities shut to make way for a bus park. carers and service users have been treated like a political football and still await a new centre being built.
legacy 3 : working class residents like margaret jaconelli are burtally evicted without receiving adequate compensation, whilst millionaire property developers like charles price are given whopping payoffs in dodgy land deals.
legacy 4 : a series of unethical companies are given lucrative contracts and sponsorship deals inclduing Atos. the same corporation that has implemented the controversial work capability test.
other unethical contractors include g4s and selex es. g4s famously failed to provide a work force fit to guard the london olympics, prompting the unexpected deployment of thousands of troops and police officers. g4s also manages immigration detention centres, with concern raised over its record of rough handling of immigration detainees. selex es is an arms manufacturer that sells drones and radar equipment to the israeli government and to other regimes with poor human rights records including saudi arabia, bahrain, pakistan and the united arab emirates.
yet another dodgy sponsor was British Petroleum. BP is no stranger to being in the news for unethical practices. With the most recent being the explosion of the Gulf Coast Rig, the Deepwater Horizon, that killed 11 people, injured many more and produced one of the largest oil spills in history that occurred in U.S. Waters.
