On Friday, January 20, 2017, President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.
Representative Katherine Clark (Democrat from Massachusetts), Representative Luis Gutiérrez (Democrat from Illinois), Representative Mark DeSaulnier (Democrat from California), Representative Jared Huffman (Democrat from California), Representative Barbara Lee (Democrat from California), Representative Raúl Grijalva (Democrat from Arizona), and Representative John Lewis (Democrat from Georgia and a Civil Rights Activist) have publicly

stated that they will not attend the inauguration. I assume that they do not want to witness an American debacle! They have specific reasons for their decisions ranging from concerns about Trump’s temperament and qualifications for occupying the Highest Office in the country to questions concerning Russia’s alleged interference with the US democratic election process. Given the political climate of our great nation and the world, I would agree with their decision.
Our democracy must be peacefully transferred, and the most important Office of American Leadership should be given to the candidate that is endorsed by the free will of the people; however, is President-elect Donald Trump truly the candidate of the people? According to the final tabulation of the official election process, Hillary Clinton received 2,865,075 more votes than Donald Trump. CNN reported that “more Americans voted for Hillary Clinton than any other losing presidential candidate in US history”. President-elect Donald Trump received 306 Electoral College votes, and Hillary Clinton received 232 votes. President-elect Trump received 35 more Electoral College votes required to catapult him into the CEO chair; however, there is a suspicious cloud overshadowing his victory. Did interference from Russian sources politically transform him into a winner or was he simply in the right place at the right time, and Hillary Clinton overlooked addressing the issues of middle America.
Who is responsible for Hillary’s political failure? Can we blame the lack of voter turn-out since sixty-four (64) percent of eligible voters voted in the 2016 Presidential election? But only 62% of registered voters voted in the 2008 Presidential election. Can we blame the FBI Director, James Comey, for releasing a frivolous letter that accentuated the indefatigable cry of Donald Trump to investigate Hillary’s emails?
2
But this too led to an “abysmal void”! Can we blame Hillary for making a poor judgment to use a private email server for government business? America couldn’t forgive her, but could forgive Donald Trump for his indiscretions and his deliberate attempts to berate his opponent by inciting crowds to chant “crooked Hillary”, and promises made that Hillary Clinton will “be in jail if I’m elected”. Those actions led to the distrust by a segment of the American people of someone who had the potential to become an American icon-the the woman president of the United States. Incidentally, I believe that more indiscretions of Mr. Trump will spring from darkness into the light given sufficient time.
So, what happened after eight years of the Obama Administration? Did racism play a role in the 2016 election? Did middle America retaliate because the country had eight years of Black leadership? Did certain sections of our American communities become disenchanted with their socio-economic status? Did certain sections of middle America become disenchanted with the political rhetoric of Washington insiders? Did middle America use the democratic process in an insanely irresponsible manner to affect an ideological revolution in hopes of establishing a more transparent government? If an ideological revolution was the case, did the country go too far in selecting a politically incompetent individual for the highest job in the country? If race and bigotry are the issues, then I assure you that this nation is taking a giant step toward dismantling itself as the standard-bearer for “justice”; “domestic tranquility”; “common” defense; “general welfare”; and “liberty” that promote and secure “Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity”.

I have serious concerns about an individual with Mr. Trump’s temperament holding the most important public office in the free world. Past presidents may have groped women, but their actions were not publicized around the world. Past Presidents didn’t record their actions on audiotapes using expletives and lewd quid pro quo narratives. Past presidents may have had other serious issues, but not with the language, demeanor, and questionable actions that are so prevalent with our current President-elect. They maintained a presidential posture of dignity, and, as such, secured the respect of the nation.
Are you aware of any US president who used state-of-the-art communication vehicles to demonstrate his narcissistic behavior? Are you aware of any US president who used state-of-theart communication vehicles to publicly criticize and refer to targeted individuals by inappropriate and malicious terminologies? Are you aware of any US president who used state-of-the-art communication vehicles to publicly discredit government entities entrusted with pertinent information that ensures the democratic tranquility of this great nation and its standing in the international community?
I realize that more than 62 million Americans supported our new President, and that many more will support him on January 20, 2017. At that historic moment, will we simultaneously celebrate a downturn in American History. Only history will record that story; however, I don’t want hisstory to be the cog in the wheel that will significantly disrupt our-story as the number one nation open to embracing all those who would be free. I don’t want his-story to be the cog in the wheel that will significantly disrupt our-story as the number one nation open to the acceptance of free speech and freedom of movement for all its citizenry. I don’t want his-story to be the cog in

the wheel that will significantly disrupt our-story as the number one nation open to allowing the citizens of this great nation to have the privilege of proper health care and access to modern medical diagnoses and state-of-the-art medical treatment. Finally, I don’t want his-story to be the cog in the wheel that will significantly disrupt our-story as the number one nation that accepts any condition of birth, encourages successfully achievement of educational and career goals, and encourages its citizens to dream impossible dreams.
The citizens of this great nation went to the polls. Forty-six percent of Americans (of the 64% of Americans who voted) voted for Mr. Trump, and they were intoxicated with the promise of a new America. They were ingenuously hopeful for a transparent administration unencumbered by the prevarications of career politicians. Now, they may be duped by a shrewd and manipulative businessman. Will we see a scenario so frightening that it will negate the past and usher in an uncertain and tenuous future? I want to be optimistic, but next week a new error will erupt after a sincerely honest man, President Barack Obama (2009 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy”), transfers the keys of the White House to a voracious expellant of inappropriate Twitter comments, President-elect Donald Trump. I hope that my optimism will not exponentially decline when those keys are transferred.
On Monday, January 16, 2017, we will celebrate an icon whose positive footprints have made an indomitable impression on our nation and the world. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1964 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for “his dynamic leadership of the Civil Rights movement and steadfast

commitment to achieving racial justice through nonviolent action) was the “most influential and inspirational African-American leader in history”. He left a legacy of love, peace, and hope that few people can emulate. A little more than 72 hours following “a day on, rather than a day off”, we will enter an era of a different America where the immorality of racism, injustice, and bigotry could be exacerbated. God forbid!
My prayer is that God’s protective tentacles will stretch over our nation. His everlasting mercy will shelter us from the coming storm. His love will overshadow our fears, and like Israel of old, we will be able to claim His promise, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10).
So, on Friday, January 20, 2017, let’s pray that God’s protective veil will continue to cover this magnificent country knowing that one day He will unleash the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” (Revelation Chapter 6).
