The Irish “Troubles” My name is Michael Anthony Patrick McGrath. I was born back in 1969 on the island of Ireland in the northern town of Belfast that was then, and remains today, a contentious part of the United Kingdom.

It was amidst this backdrop that I grow up in a dysfunctional family with one, mostly absent, alcoholic parent and another with severe emotional problems that meant she believed violence against her children was the best form of child raising.
Unknown to me at the time it seems my 148 IQ was not enough to stop me from being labelled stupid. To this day I have no idea why this was so but I grew believing it.
I also had major issues about my looks and even though I played guitar in a reasonably successful rock band I never felt successful. I also considered myself to be ugly and not worth very much.

In fact I had tried just about every success and goal setting system available by the time I was 25 and yet my life was a mess. It was frustrating for me to watch other people aimlessly walk through life without ambition or goals.

I had a ton of goals and they were both concrete and detailed. Unfortunately though no matter what I tried I just couldn‘t attain those goals.
It is one of the worst feelings in the world to know what you want and have the drive and persistence to go after it yet to fail over and over and over again. It was like the Universe was laughing at me.
On my 29th birthday, despite owning a huge personal development library of books and having a vast knowledge of goal-setting, I found myself sitting in my house waiting for the bailiffs to come while I ate out of date peas in a stale bread sandwich because I couldn‘t bear to ask for help. If you have 1 leg and are approaching your 70th birthday it is extremely unlikely you will ever run a 4 minute mile (at least unaided).
Set goals that are within the realm of possibility.

Just because a goal ―appears‖ to be impossible to reach from where you are or for who you currently ―appear‖ to be doesn‘t mean you shouldn‘t set it. If it is possible and you want it, then no matter how improbable it seems to be you should go get it … and you can!

The D.R.E.A.M.S. System!
Step 1: DESIRE The Chinese tell us that a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Well your first step on your journey to success lies in gaining a better understanding of a much over-used and often misunderstood word – DESIRE.
Desire is our starting pint on this journey and once you know how to utilize this emotional ―gift‖ I assure you, you will be 50% on your way to success and will have already entered into the top 2% achievers on this planet.
Understanding Desire In order to achieve anything in life, big or small, you must have a desire to achieve that thing. Every action you take begins with a simple desire.
It is the desire to have a cup of coffee that motivates you to put the kettle on or visit a coffee shop.
The desire to satiate your hunger drives you to seek food. Even the desire to sustain your life gets you out of bed every day and forces you to go to work.
Truly everything you do is driven by desire.
However, if you wish to achieve your goals you must embrace a very specific type of desire.
We are often told to go after what we want and avoid going after things that we do not really desire. However, as I have already explained everything we do is driven by desire.

For example setting a goal to follow a specific career path that your parents want for you is pursuing a desire because you have a desire to please your parents and/or not disappoint them. This is where many people get caught up.
However, to achieve all your goals easily and attain happiness at the same time the above mentioned desire it is not the type of desire you should pursue.
Not only will it not lead to a feeling of desire-fulfilment but 9 times out of 10 it will lead to unhappiness, frustration and depression.
What‘s more it is unlikely you will achieve any real success at that particular field or career because you will not have a burning desire to succeed and will most likely lack motivation to succeed.
The same holds true for any goal you set not just in your career. It applies to relationships, lifestyle, life choices etc.
Likewise it is important to avoid falling into the ―settling‖ trap. Don‘t avoid setting a goal just because you think you are not capable of achieving it. The simple truth is that if you are capable of wanting it then you are capable of having it.
What is a Burning Desire? Before answering this question let‘s take a look at the word desire.
Wikipedia tells us that, “Desire is a sense of longing or hoping for a person, object, or outcome.” Re-read that description one more time please and pay close attention to the words ―… a sense of longing or hoping‖.

When Buddha told us that desire is the cause of all suffering we can see what he meant by looking closely at this commonly held view of desire as outlined by Wikipedia.
Buddha may have spoken of desire as being the cause of suffering but a better translation would be the word ―covet‖.
To covet something is to lust after it. So the word ―desire‖ in Buddha‘s statement can actually be replaced with a phrase that suits modern English language usage much better; ―to lust‖.
If we replace the word ―desire‖ with the phrase ―to lust‖ Buddha‘s meaning becomes a lot clearer. After all surely desire itself cannot be intrinsically bad or it wouldn‘t be a natural part of our biological make-up.
In fact it was desire that lead Buddha on his quest for enlightenment and it was that same desire that helped him achieve it!
Just as the bible tells us not to covet (meaning lust after) our neighbour‘s goods and not to covet our neighbour‘s wife, Buddha has told us that the state of coveting (lusting) leads to unhappiness.
Lust is the cause of all suffering.
As we can see the problem with lust is not that it is sinful, shameful or wrong. The problem with lust is that it implies we are in a state of wanting something really badly yet not really believing that we can have it.
Obviously this state will lead to suffering!

Therefore this is not the type of desire you want to incorporate into your goal setting. The type of desire you want to use to help you achieve your goals is not a lustful desire but a burning desire.
When you pursue a objective that is based on something that you truly want it is easy to see yourself in possession of it; your mind does this naturally. When you take that desire and turn it into a solid, concrete, definable goal you move from the realms of lust into the reams of possibility.
Therefore you should look at desire in a totally new way from now on. Look at it as follows:
A burning desire is a sense of anticipation of having a person, attaining an object, or achieving an outcome.

A Burning Desire is Not Impatient
Many people mistakenly think that having a burning desire means you are constantly in a grabbing state; like the girl from the original Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory movie.
However, a burning desire is quite the opposite of this type of ―immediate gratification‖ yearning. A burning desire is akin to a red hot poker. It is not dancing with flames but has a constant heat and glow. This is the way your desire should be; always constant and always intense but in a consistent and calm way.
You need do nothing to create this type of state other than to go after what you truly want.
There is literally nothing you need to do to acquire a burning desire. When you set a goal to achieve something that you truly want to achieve you will be in the natural ―burning desire‖ state!
Do not concern yourself with the details of how you will achieve that desire. Just enjoy the feelings you have when you dwell on images of having the desire manifest in your life (which will happen naturally just by thinking about it).
Setting a Goal At any one time I have between 3 to 5 goals. Usually these goals are intertwined with one and other.
For example I may want a 3% conversion rate on a particular website while at the same time wanting it to be in the number 1 spot on Google for a specific search phrase. Although these are 2 separate goals they are linked.

Sometimes all of my goals are completely independent of one and other.
For your first experiment at using this powerful D.R.E.A.M.S. System I want you to focus on just 1 goal.
By having only 1 goal it will be easier for you to practice each step and you will see results much quicker. Once you have achieved a few goals feel free to work on several at any one time: but for now pick just 1 desire that is close to your heart.
Make sure this goal is a desire for something that you truly want and not something you think you should want or that someone else wants for you.
Do not concern yourself with how you will achieve this goal at this point. Your only job right now is to pick something that you truly desire and it doesn’t matter how improbable it seems nor how impossible you think it is for you to achieve it.
There is one caveat however: the desire and the goal you set for yourself based on that desire must be possible at least in theory. Don‘t try to change the laws of physics!
Although there are obvious exceptions to this (don‘t expect to run a 4 minute mile if you have 1 leg and are about to turn 79 years old) but a good rule of thumb is as follows: as long as it is possible for 1 human being to do it then it is safe to set it as a goal for yourself.
Using Your Desire Now you know how to use desire.
Spend the next day or 2 contemplating exactly what you want to achieve first using this process. Then set it as a goal.

This is a vital step in the entire 6 step process. If you do not set a goal based on a desire that is true to your heart you will fail in steps 3, 5 & 6.
When you set a goal that is close to your heart you will find that the remaining steps in this process are like child‘s play and you will be amazed at the speed at which you start getting what you want from life.
In the next section you will learn how to restructure your habitual thinking so you start attracting the people, situations and material objects you need to attain your goal.

Step 2: RESTRUCTURE
Now that you know how to use ―desire‖ to correctly identify what you really want you are going to learn how to restructure your thinking so you get into alignment with your newly formed goal.
In order to do this we will quickly revisit the concept of desire (don‘t worry you have already done the hard bit – this bit is fun).
The Whys Have It When you completed the first step in the D.R.E.A.M.S. System you will have realized what you truly desire. You will have also formed this desire into a goal.
In this section you are going change how you think in connection to that goal. In order to do that it is essential that you know why you want to achieve the goal.
Many success ―gurus‖ tell us that knowing the ―whys‖ of goals is a powerful tool for staying motivated. Although this is true it is not the main reason for identifying those ―whys‖.
When you know why you want something it becomes extremely easy to see yourself in possession of it. This makes visualization a breeze!
Let’s take an example: Jane decides she wants to start her own successful online business that will earn at least $200,000 in profit within its first year. Did she come up with this goal arbitrarily?

No. Jane came to this specific goal by identifying her ―whys‖.
So how did she use her ―whys‖ to create this particular goal? Well Jane has specific things that she wants to achieve in her personal life and she has identified that in order to reach those objectives she needs at least $200,000.
She has calculated that in order to visit her favourite world travel destinations she needs at least $50,0000. She requires a further $150,000 to buy that new house she‘s always wanted, mortgage free.
After some thought she realized that to gain a sum of $200,000 within a 1 year period she would need to start her own business. If she were to try to achieve that goal through her current employment it would require a 2 year course of study to launch her towards that pay scale. It may take even longer if she sought a new career move.
She also realized that if she worked in a corporate job she would not have access to the time needed to pursue her travel goals. For this reason she also identified that it would be best to start an online business that uses her unique skill set and experience as they would give her the opportunity to travel and work simultaneously.
Can you see how Jane used her ―whys‖ to help her structure her goal?
Using The “Whys” Jane has some very specific desires she wants to achieve and has used them to narrow down a goal that is business related and monetary in nature.

However starting a business that earns her $200,000 profit in her fist year may be her goal but the ―whys‖ behind that goal are the most important things to her not the actual goal itself; the goal merely signifies the successful attainment/completion of her ―whys‖.
Whenever Jane is performing tasks that are designed to help her move closer to her goal fulfillment she realises exactly why she taking action to move her towards the attainment of that goal.
It is not just a successful business that is driving her.
It is not just $200,000 profit in her first business year that is her motivation.
These objectives are just vehicles to achieve her real aims – but they are vitally important so she has an objective in mind and a destination to reach.
The important point to take away with you is that Jane knows why she is taking action to attain her goal and reach her set destination.
Likewise, once you have identified your own personal ―whys‖ you can use them to not only motivate yourself to keep taking action towards your success but you can use them to help reprogram your subconscious mind and command it to manifest your goals into reality.
Visualization When you know why you want to achieve a particular and specific goal it is very easy to visualize the successful outcome of that goal.

By seeing yourself enjoying the ―fruits‖ of your goal achievement you can quickly start to change your mental attitude around that goal.
This will keep you motivated and also help you to visualize the successful outcome of your endeavours.
However there is a much deeper and more powerful reason for identifying the ―whys‖ and staying focused on them.
Not taking this step seriously is the root cause of failure as Wallace D. Wattles identified in his classic book The Science of Getting Rich (free digital download for my readers) and which I will explain in much more detail in step 4.
If you are like me you will be ultra excited, as I was when I first stumbled upon this information, to find out why you have failed so many times before and how to stop it ever happening again but please do not be tempted to skip ahead.
You need this time to build the foundation necessary to avoid future failures. Master each step in turn and I promise you no goal will be achievable for you.
Thinking in a Certain Way Wattles refers to 2 key concepts in his success philosophy that are incorporated into the D.R.E.A.M.S. System.
1. Thinking in a Certain Way. 2. Acting in a Certain Way.
These 2 concepts are interwoven and linked very strongly.

However, in order to use that powerful information you must understand all the preceding steps especially this one!
When Wattles tells his readers to ―think in a certain way‖ he is actually just telling them to think of their goals as having been already accomplished.
This is not a new concept. If you have studied any personal development, self improvement or metaphysical material you will be familiar with the idea of visualizing your goals.
The difference between Wattle‘s approach and modern day teachings is that Wattle‘s proposed you spend as much time as possible contemplating your goal – not just spending 10 minutes per day visualizing it.
If you want to be successful this step is vital.
Although Wattles covers the subject in great detail with the understanding of a Master Manifestor I will give it a modern twist to his teachings that will explode the results you get with it.
The Problem with Seeing Things in the “NOW” The subconscious mind has no concept of time. It experiences things in the ―NOW‖.
This is why we are told to visualize our goals as having already been accomplished.

By thinking of your goals as having already been accomplished now you ―fool‖ your subconscious mind into believing it is so.
Then when contradictory evidence presents itself your subconscious mind feels that your world is out of sync with your true inner reality and immediately goes to work to change your outer circumstances to match your inner vision.
There is one problem with this process though: thinking of your goals as already accomplished may sound like it‘s easy but the reality of it, as I‘m sure you already know, is very different.
It is easy enough to visualize our goals as having already been accomplished with our eyes closed while we are relaxing on a chair or lying in bed but, as Wattles has instructed us, we need to contemplate our goals as much as possible even as we go about our normal daily activities. This is where problems begin.
When we are interacting in the real world it soon becomes pretty clear to us that our goals have not been accomplished.
If you try to convince yourself that your goal has already been achieved while everything around you is screaming at you that this is not the case your subconscious mind will quickly rebel and start firing thoughts at you which confirm the ―reality‖ of your current situation. This can be counterproductive and actually lead to the manifestation of the exact opposite of what you want.
Have you ever tried to visualize yourself as rich while all around you are unpaid bills, empty cupboards and you are driving a car that should not be on the road? Believe me it doesn‘t work!

So how do we continually contemplate our goals in a positive way that helps to manifest them, as Wattles informs us to do, without violating the directive to think of them as being already accomplished?
It is actually easier than you may think.
Restructuring Your Thoughts In order to successfully keep your goal in mind in a positive way while also ―fooling‖ the subconscious mind into thinking it has already been accomplished you will use the following simple technique.
Twice per day set aside about 10 – 15 minutes to visualize your goal in its entirety. Sit or lie down in a comfortable place where you will not be disturbed.
Close your eyes and relax your body. If you want to use self hypnosis or a meditation technique/recording to help you relax that is fine.
Once you are relaxed start to visualize your goal. See it as already accomplished. Step 3: EMOTIONALIZE
By implementing the first 2 steps of the D.R.E.A.M.S. System system, having identified your desire and created a mental picture that encapsulates a successful attainment of that desire, you have built a solid foundation for achieving success.
Now you will incorporate the use of emotional content into your goal-getting program.
Using Your Visualization In step 2 you discovered the importance of creating a visual image of your success. You were instructed to use this visualization at specific times during the day in 2 different ways.
Here is a simple ―watered down‖ version of that training:
1. Twice per day visualize your goal with your eyes closed as having already been attained. 2. Contemplate your visualize image for a few moments once per hour during the day while acknowledging that you are moving towards it.
Many personal development and goal programs stop here. In fact most of them do not even include number 2., the contemplation of your goal throughout the day. However, simply visualizing your goal will not work. It will never work and I would place a wager that you have tried it and it hasn‘t worked for you either! The truth is simple:

Contrary to popular opinion in the personal development field thoughts do not create reality – at least not thoughts alone!
The Nature of Thought A thought is an ethereal thing. It is not a concrete object in reality as some self-improvement gurus would have you believe.
Also contrary to popular opinion in the self-improvement field a thought cannot create a material thing from nothing.
On its own a thought can be considered as an electrical impulse with limited energy and power. You can see the truth of this in your everyday life.
If thoughts created reality then your day would be a lot more hectic than it currently is as the 50,000 + daily thoughts that crowd your mind send your world into an Alice In Wonderland nightmare.
Thoughts do not create reality. Well if thoughts do not create reality why are they given so much importance in goal setting and personal development?
Why is the law of attraction all about how we use our thoughts if they don‘t create things?
In fact if you give any thought to it (pun intended) you can see that almost every action starts with a thought: you first have a desire and then the thought to act upon it.

So how can thoughts be used to help you achieve your goals?
How to Think To answer this question let me liken a thought less to a reality builder, as many others suggest it is, and more to a mould.
Just as a mould is used to set substances such as rubber, plastic, concrete etc., into solid objects, a thought can be used for setting the energy that creates reality into a specific solid structure.
You see thoughts are used to create the building blocks from the all pervading substance that fills the Universe but they are not the building blocks or structural component themselves.
This is where most law of attraction teachers fall short in their training. They teach us that thoughts become things.
Thoughts themselves do not actually become anything. Thoughts are nebulous. They have no real form and , for the sake of illustration purposes, should be considered as being basically electrical in nature.
Thoughts cannot create anything. But they can be used as a tool to restructure the substance that creates reality. Thoughts are the mould that can reshape the very substance that the entire universe is made of.
While this substance is it its primal form it is like Plasticine, or moulding clay, and can be shaped and reshaped into any form.

You see when primal energy is worked into a shape and held in that shape for a period of time it solidifies into that shape in the material world. In other words, you can use your thoughts as a mould to set the primal energy of the universe into any shape you desire.
Let me explain.
When a mud brick is being made (or any other brick for that matter) the consistent parts are mixed together and then poured into an empty mould. This mould is then left alone for a period of time, just long enough for the mixture it contains to dry.
Once dried the fully formed brick is removed from the mould. The mould itself remains the same, an empty vessel, but it has been used to create a very real and tangible thing.
Thoughts are the mould that Universal intelligence fills with the malleable energy that solidifies into materiality.
The visualize image you created in step 2 is the mould you are going to use to create your material reality. But as I have already explained the thought itself (the visualization) does not create anything and cannot create anything on its on. It is just a mould. In and of itself it is completely useless.
Like a mould your visualization can be considered to be the inverse of what you want. For that visual image (or thought) to become useful you must fill it with the substance of material reality while that substance is in its malleable and plasticine-like form.
The All Pervading Substance So how do we fill the mould of our thoughts with the same energy that material reality is made up of?

However, the subconscious mind can!
Your job is not to try to mould the universe into any particular form. Your job is to simply convince your subconscious mind to do it and then sit back and enjoy the results.
Wallace D. Wattles in his famous book, The Science of getting Rich, explains it perfectly in the following quote:
―There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.‖ Wallace D. Wattles, The Science of Getting Rich.
Wattles tells us in the above quote that the universe is filled with a primal substance and that any thought created in this substance will cause that thought to be created in the material world.
Much in the same way that I described a thought as being a mould for universal substance Wattles says that a thought in the ―thinking stuff‖ will cause the image associated with that thought to manifest into reality.
As human beings we have no direct control over this substance, or ―thinking stuff‖ as Wattles called it. However, the subconscious mind is in direct communication with this ―thinking stuff‖ at all times.
By exercising control over our thoughts and passing those thoughts onto the subconscious mind we can literally create anything we want.

Once it has been commanded to do a thing it is then the job of the subconscious mind to mould the ―thinking stuff‖ into a form and hold it in place long enough for that ―thinking stuff‖, or primal energy, to solidify into materiality.
Your job is to consciously direct your thoughts and drive them into the subconscious mind.
How do you do that?
It‘s simple really!
Emotionalize It It is through strong emotion that we drive a thought deep into the subconscious mind.
Then through repetition we force the subconscious mind to hold that thought in place long enough for the primal energy, or ―thinking stuff‖, within it to harden into material form – like a mud brick hardening in a mould.
By using your emotions while you visualize you will literally drive your visual image into the subconscious mind. Once there the ―thinking stuff‖ starts to fill the mental mould. Remember Wattles‘ book is about getting rich but his system applies equally well to any other goal. He also talks about the amount of money, or riches, that will be manifest.
For our purposes the above explanation is better summarized in connection to the speed of manifestation (as your goal can only manifest in full not in pieces) as follows:

How to Emotionalize Your Goal Using your emotions with your visualization is super easy. In fact it should really already be happening. If you do not feel some type of positive emotions when you visualize your goal then you have failed to follow the instructions laid down in step 1.
If this is the case go back and review that step now.
When you choose a goal that has real meaning to you and that is backed by a burning desire it is easy to create positive emotions around it.
In fact it is impossible not to feel positive emotions if it is something you truly want.
This is why I emphasized the importance of this in step 1.
Simply visualizing a successful outcome to your goal when it is something you truly want should be enough to evoke all the same type of emotions that you will have when you actually have the goal. This emotional content is enough to drive that thought deep into the subconscious mind.
Do not worry if negative feelings and thoughts arise as you practice this step. This is normal. We have been conditioned to doubt ourselves, our abilities and to question ―wacky‖ theories.
If you encounter negative feelings of doubt just ignore them for now. You will be taught how to deal with self-defeating, negative and counter-productive feelings in step 5 when you will be shown how to master your negative emotions.

The Role of Gratitude Although I am not a proponent of any particular religion and I want to strongly emphasize that a belief in any deity or religion is not necessary to achieve your goals I want to share a story from the bible to illustrate the importance of gratitude.
There are equally good examples in all religions. I use this only because it is the one that I am most familiar with.
We can see gratitude in action when we look at the account of Lazarus’ resurrection in the New Testament. 38
Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39 “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” 40 41
Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone.
Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” 43
When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” John 11:38-43
Look at the account of this meeting closely and you will see how gratitude was used to create a miracle.

It was obvious to Lazarus‘ sister that Lazarus was dead and that he had been dead so long that his body was already decomposing in the heat.
However, before Jesus had even given the command for Lazarus to come out of the tomb and without even the slightest sign whatsoever that Lazarus was reanimated Jesus was offering thanks to his Father for the miracle.
When everything in the physical environment was appearing to reflect the fact that what Jesus was claiming was true was in fact completely untrue Jesus was so undeterred and convinced of his own vision of reality that he openly demonstrated gratitude for that reality.
You must do the same with your goal!
Jesus was so convinced that what he was about to ask for had already happened, even before he asked for it, that he was offering up gratitude to his Father for having manifested his desire.
Look at Jesus’ exclamation one more time:
―Father, I thank you that you heard me.‖
Jesus hasn‘t even asked Lazarus to come out yet! His gratitude is actually an exclamation of faith, or belief, that what he wanted is exactly what he was about to get!
In order to have belief or faith that your goal is about to be materialized all you have to do is express gratitude the way Jesus did.

Using Gratitude to Manifest Your Desires At the end of your bi-daily visualization processes when you have pictured your goal and enjoyed all the positive emotions associated with its attainment you should then evoke feelings of gratitude for having achieved that goal. Be thankful that you attained what you wanted.
Say thank you to the universe, God, your subconscious mind, the primal ―thinking stuff‖ or anything that you identify as being responsible for bringing your goal into manifestation.
This is faith in action!
Likewise, when you think of your goal throughout the day and tell yourself that you are getting closer to attaining it be grateful that you are getting closer. Be grateful for any ideas your subconscious mind offers you. Be grateful for seeming co-incidences or synchronicities that occur.
Expressing gratitude after your visualization exercises is an open expression of belief that what you have asked for is already yours.
Expressing gratitude during the day when you are contemplating your goal and its unfoldment in your life is an open expression that you believe it is unfolding and is in the process of happening.
You need do nothing else to cultivate belief and faith except evoke feelings of gratitude!

Summing Up Step 3 In this step, Step 3 Emotionalize, you have learned that thoughts are the mould used to shape primal energy into whatever you want to manifest in the material world.
But to be effective at creating the material reality that corresponds to that mental image that mental image , or visualization, must be filled with primal energy in the same way a mud brick mould is filled with mud.
In order to do this successfully it is necessary to drive your visual image deep into the subconscious mind as it is the subconscious mind that fills the mould of your vision with primal energy.
To drive your pre-defined visual image into the subconscious mind all you need to do is feel positive emotions while visualizing your objective.
These positive emotions are the vehicle needed for sending your image to the subconscious where it then acts as a mould. Once in the subconscious mind this visual image, or mental mould, is then filled with primal energy.
You also learned that gratitude is the key to having faith or belief. It is gratitude that forces primal energy to take shape within the mould (your visual image). The intensity of your gratitude determines the speed at which you see physical results.
Finally you learned that repetition is needed to hold it all in place long enough so that primal energy can solidify into material reality.
Just following these first 3 steps of the D.R.E.A.M.S. System puts you miles ahead of other people who are trying to use the law of attraction and visualization to create their dreams. But once you combine them with the next 3 steps no goal will be unattainable for you.

That foundation is mental and emotional in nature for without doubt you must mentally prepare yourself for success before you can ever expect to achieve success in the material world.
Unless you create success in your inner world first you will never be successful in your outer world.
As you have learned in the previous steps it all begins with thought and is reinforced and strengthened by feeling and faith (gratitude).
However, thinking and feeling yourself into success is not enough. Even strong faith that you will achieve a thing is not enough on its own to bring you to that thing.
You must also take action!

Why Some People Succeed & Others Fail While Doing the Same Things Failure to produce a specific result from taking specific actions that should produce that result is covered very well in The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles.
Why do some succeed while others fail? Although Wattle‘s following explanation for failure and success is connected to the accumulation of money it is equally applicable to any other goal you may have. If you have ever failed to achieve any goal before this is the reason for that failure!
Wattles correctly pointed out in his book that success is not dependent on specific actions. Two people in the same profession can do exactly the same thing, at exactly the same time yet one will get rich while another one goes bankrupt.
Why is this?

We have been taught that achieving goals is about setting an objective, creating a workable plan and then executing that plan so it will lead us to the fulfilment of our goal. However in real life this is not what actually happens when a person achieves a successful outcome.
I am sure that you have seen people in the same profession as you do the same things that you do and succeed with very little effort while another person (perhaps you) really tries hard to succeed and yet keeps failing. In fact, if you are like me, you will have seen people in your profession doing things the wrong way and still succeeding while you do everything ―by the book‖ and still come up short.
The reason this happens is not because of the things you are doing but because of the way you are doing them – mentally! When a successful person performs an action they do it in the belief and expectation that it will bring about a successful result, i.e., that the actions they are performing are moving them closer to their goal.
At an unconscious level their subconscious mind believes that those specific action steps are necessary to bring about a successful goal attainment. So when the person performs those action steps the subconscious mind brings them closer to goal attainment – regardless of the actions taken.
However, when action steps are taken without the deliberate intent to create a specific outcome or, even worse, those actions are taken while harbouring thoughts of doubt then the subconscious mind will create an outcome harmonious to that mental state; failure and unattained goals or even the exact opposite of what should happen.
Although it may be difficult to accept this at face value all the evidence around you and in your life clearly points to the fact that creating success is really not dependent on what action you take.

The truth is, you can take any action you want to as long as you believe that action will create a specific result and your subconscious mind will create that result. Likewise you can take all the ―correct action‖ you want but if you don‘t believe it will work you will never get the result you want.
It really doesn‘t matter how well or how many times you perform the ―correct‖ actions. If you have a failure mentality your subconscious mind will find a way to make those actions result in failure!

If you have a negative attitude about the action you are taking no amount of correct action will produce success.

By focusing on your goal throughout the day it will imprinted on your mind and will be running in the background like a program on a computer. This will ensure each action you take is successful.
How to Act in a Successful Way Wattles tells us that in most cases the action you need to take to get you to your goal will be the very same actions you have been taking every day.
He tells us that it is not our actions that must change but our attitude towards those actions that must change. By performing your normal every day actions in the ―certain way‖ you will start creating positive outcomes.
As I already stated to do this all you need to do is focus on the positive attainment of your goal throughout the day as you were instructed to do in Step 2. By simply taking a few seconds every hour to recall your goal image you are training your mind to stay focused on your successful outcome.
This means each action you take will be pre-programmed to bring you closer to your goal.
For example, if you have a goal to get a new career then start by performing the normal actions of your current job in the ―certain way‖, i.e. do your current job to the best of your ability while remaining aware that the actions you taking are helping you achieve your aim of a new career even though you don‘t know how that is happening!

If you set a goal to meet your soul mate but are currently in a loveless relationship then be the best partner you can be in that relationship while retaining the positive image of your ideal relationship.
The aim is to perform your normal actions with the positive belief that you are getting closer to your desired objective.
Wattle sums this up with an example of a job goal. He states, “Hold the vision of yourself in the job you want, while you ACT with faith and purpose on the job you have, and you will certainly get the job you want. Your vision and faith will set the creative force in motion to bring it toward you, and your action will cause the forces in your own environment to move you toward the place you want.”
You will recall from previous steps that your vision is the mental image you created of your future success. You should be visualizing that twice daily; once in the morning and once at night.
You ―hold‖ that vision in mind through your hourly recall of that mental image.
Faith, as you learned in the last step, comes from evoking a feeling of gratitude. So to ―ACT with faith and purpose‖ means to perform your daily activities knowing that you are moving toward the goal that you want and being grateful for that movement.
You do not need to be thinking about you goal every moment that you are taking action. Your hourly ritual of recalling your mental image is enough.

Summing Up Step 4 As you can clearly see it is possible to bring about the circumstances you desire by simply changing your attitude about the actions you are already taking. This is because you can only ACT where you are.
You cannot act where you will be or where you have been. Only in your present position and circumstances can you take action. So act is a positive way where you are.
So, whatever you do avoid complaining about any actions you are taking or the job you are in or anything else that is a necessary part of your every day life. Those actions, even the small ones, are now bringing you closer to your goal.
This is not to say that you should not take positive action steps to move you closer to your goal attainment when those actions seem appropriate. You will find that opportunities come your way and seeming co-incidences occur that lead you to opportunities. Be prepared for this.

As I discussed in Step 2 it can be difficult to think of your goal as having already been accomplished and existing in the ―now‖.
So you may find it better to create a short affirmation that confirms that your goal is unfolding and materializing rather than having already materialized.
This avoids the unwanted negative emotions that are very often associated with affirmations that claim you have already achieved your goal.
An example of a traditional monetary affirmation may be:
I earn $100,000 per year.
This can be problematic if you are currently earning $30,000 per year and have a stack of bills pilling up with no way to pay them.
If you are in such a situation and are a normal mortal like the rest of us then reciting the above affirmation over and over again will you must you angry, depressed or hopeless as your subconscious mind rebels against the inaccuracy of the statement.

The affirmation in almost every case will simply serve to keep you stuck in your current situation because it reminds you of how far you actually really are from having that goal.
A much better way to form that affirmation would be to state:
Every day I’m getting closer to earning $100,000 per year.
This does not cause a conflict with your current reality nor will it stir up any resistance from your subconscious mind.
Your subconscious mind will find it perfectly easy to accept that every day you are getting closer to your goal and will exactly start to believe it and create that reality when you add the next ingredient to the goal mix.
It will also start giving you suggestions about how you can actually start to get closer to that earning figure and will alert your conscious mind to potentialities for earning that amount (or a stepping-stone amount) when such potentialities appear.
It can also be helpful to write this affirmation of a small plain card, that will fit into your pocket.
If you chose to use an hourly timer to remind yourself to think of your goal then the mere act of touching the card in your pocket will bring the affirmation to mind once you have it memorized.

You will use a predefined affirmation as a type of mental diagnostic tool for locating and removing anything standing between you and your goal.
Think of it as an anti-virus program for the brain.
If you look at your computer‘s anti-virus software as an example you will see that before it can remove viruses from your computer it must first run a diagnostic check on key system areas so it can find where the viruses are hiding and blocking key programs from functioning correctly.
You will use your affirmation in a similar way to find your own mental viruses that are blocking you from getting what you want.
For this purpose I want you to create an affirmation that states quite positively that your goal is already materialized and 100% present in your life. I realise that this is the exact opposite of the instructions given above but this is because you will use this particular affirmation in a very different way than you have been taught to use affirmations before.
So sit down now and create a short and concise 1 or 2 sentence affirmation that fully represents your goal as existing in the present. It should be a simple statement of fact. Make it short enough so you can memorize it and easily recite it to yourself throughout the day.
For example if you currently weigh 200lbs but have a weight loss goal that involves reaching 130lbs while getting fit you could state:
“I weigh 130lbs, with low body fat and toned muscles.”
If we revisit the financial goal mentioned in an earlier section above, where you were told to word your affirmation in a way that implied you were only getting closer to your goal, this

time you will want to use the conventional affirmation structure or style for this exercise; stating that your goal has already been accomplished.
For example:
I earn $100,000 per year.
Although it is not appropriate to use this present tense style of affirmation for programming the subconscious mind, as we already discussed, it is a great method for evoking negative thoughts and emotions that you subconsciously hold about that goal.
Once we have uncovered these negative blocks we can then quickly remove them using a very special process. Once the blocks are removed your subconscious mind is freed-up to start manifesting what you want.
So once you have created an affirmation that represents your goal as having already been accomplished write it on a small card or piece of paper that you can look at twice per day.
Set aside 2 times during the day when you can read your affirmation aloud. I personally do this after my visualizations in the morning and just before retiring at night but you can choose any time that is convenient for you.

Let me explain the technique more thoroughly by asking you to participate in a simple exercise. Pick up a pen, a pencil, or some small object that you would be willing to drop without giving it a second thought.
Now, hold it in front of you and really grip it tightly. Pretend this is one of your limiting feelings and that your hand represents your gut or your consciousness. If you held the object long enough, this would start to feel uncomfortable yet familiar.
Now, open your hand and roll the object around in it. Notice that you are the one holding on to it; it is not attached to your hand. The same is true with your feelings, too. Your feelings are as attached to you as this object is attached to your hand.
We hold on to our feelings and forget that we are holding on to them. It‘s even in our language. When we feel angry or sad, we don‘t usually say, ―I feel angry,‖ or, ―I feel sad.‖ We say, ―I am angry,‖ or, ―I am sad.‖ Without realizing it, we are misidentifying that we are the feeling. Often, we believe a feeling is holding on to us. This is not true… we are always in control and just don‘t know it.
Now, let the object go.
What happened? You let go of the object, and it dropped to the floor. Was that hard? Of course not. That‘s what we mean when we say ―let go.‖
You can do the same thing with any emotion: choose to let it go.

Sticking with this same analogy: If you walked around with your hand open, wouldn‘t it be very difficult to hold on to the pen or other object you‘re holding?
Likewise, when you allow or welcome a feeling, you are opening your consciousness, and this enables the feeling to drop away all by itself—like the clouds passing in the sky or smoke passing up a chimney with the flue open. It is as though you are removing the lid from a pressure cooker.
Now, if you took the same object—a pencil, pen, or pebble—and magnified it large enough, it would appear more and more like empty space. You would be looking into the gaps between the molecules and atoms. When you dive into the very core of a feeling, you will observe a comparable phenomenon: nothing is really there.
As you master the technique of releasing, you will discover that even your deepest feelings are just on the surface. At the core you are empty, silent, and at peace—not in the pain and darkness that most of us would assume. In fact, even our most extreme feelings have only as much substance as a soap bubble. And you know what happens when you poke your finger into a soap bubble: it pops. That‘s exactly what happens when you dive into the core of a feeling.
Please keep these three analogies in mind as we go through the releasing process together. Releasing will help you to free yourself from all of your unwanted patterns of behaviour, thought, and feeling.
All that is required from you is being as open as you can be to the process. Releasing is a simple technique will free you to access clearer thinking, yet it is not a thinking process. Although it will help you to access heightened creativity, you don‘t need to be particularly creative to be effective at doing it.
You will get the most out of the process of releasing the more you allow yourself to see, hear, and feel it working, rather than by thinking about how and why it works. Lead, as best you can, with your heart, not your head. If you find yourself getting a little stuck in trying to figure it out, you can use the identical process to let go of ―wanting to figure it out.‖

Guaranteed, as you work with this process, you will understand it more fully by having the direct experience of doing it.
So here we go.
Choosing to Let Go Make yourself comfortable and focus inwardly. Your eyes may be open or closed.
Step 1: Focus on an issue that you would like to feel better about, and then allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling in this moment. This doesn‘t have to be a strong feeling. In fact, you can even check on how you feel about this exercise and what you want to get from it. Just welcome the feeling and allow it to be as fully or as best you can.
This instruction may seem simplistic, but it needs to be. Most of us live in our thoughts, pictures, and stories about the past and the future, rather than being aware of how we actually feel in this moment.
The only time that we can actually do anything about the way we feel (and, for that matter, about our businesses or our lives) is NOW. You don‘t need to wait for a feeling to be strong before you let it go.
In fact, if you are feeling numb, flat, blank, cut off, or empty inside, those are feelings that can be let go of just as easily as the more recognizable ones. Simply do the best you can. The more you work with this process, the easier it will be for you to identify what you are feeling.
Step 2: Ask yourself one of the following three questions: • Could I let this feeling go? • Could I allow this feeling to be here? • Could I welcome this feeling?

These questions are merely asking you if it is possible to take this action. ―Yes‖ or ―no‖ are both acceptable answers. You will often let go even if you say ―no.‖ As best you can, answer the question that you choose with a minimum of thought, staying away from second-guessing yourself or getting into an internal debate about the merits of that action or its consequences.
All the questions used in this process are deliberately simple. They are not important in and of themselves but are designed to point you to the experience of letting go, to the experience of stopping holding on. Go on to Step 3 no matter how you answered the first question.
Step 3: No matter which question you started with, ask yourself this simple question: Would I? In other words: Am I willing to let go?
Again, stay away from debate as best you can. Also remember that you are always doing this process for yourself—for the purpose of gaining your own freedom and clarity. It doesn‘t matter whether the feeling is justified, long-standing, or right.
If the answer is ―no,‖ or if you are not sure, ask yourself: ―Would I rather have this feeling, or would I rather be free?‖
Even if the answer is still ―no,‖ go on to Step 4.
Step 4: Ask yourself this simpler question: When?
This is an invitation to just let it go NOW. You may find yourself easily letting go. Remember that letting go is a decision you can make any time you choose.
Step 5: Repeat the preceding four steps as often as needed until you feel free of that particular feeling.

You will probably find yourself letting go a little more on each step of the process. The results at first may be quite subtle. Very quickly, if you are persistent, the results will get more and more noticeable. You may find that you have layers of feelings about a particular topic.
However, what you let go of is gone for good.
Releasing With Your Affirmation Now that you know how to release you can use it to remove all negativity surrounding your goal.
Twice per day sit for 5 – 10 minutes with your written affirmation. Speak your affirmation aloud and wait to see if any negativity arises.
When a negative feeling comes up, let it go. If no negative feelings come up you can release on that non-feeling as well.
Do this for approximately 5 to 10 minutes or until you feel good about your goal. Never stop the exercise on a negative feeling. Always release to a positive place before you stop.
This will keep you in a positive attitude throughout the day making the other steps of the D.R.E.A.M.S. System successful and almost effortless.
If you continue to do the exercise and feel only positive then do not go looking for negative feelings. Just allow yourself to feel good.
You may also find similar negative feelings arise again and again. Please be assured that these are not the same negative feelings and thoughts that you previously released.

They may feel the same but negative subconscious programming is often like an onion with many layers. Just keep going until you get clear and positive on the issue.
Summing Up Step 5 So to be clear about how this step works I will summarize it below.
1. (optional) If you choose to use an affirmation to help reprogram your subconscious mind never word it in the present tense. Instead word it in a way that implies you are getting closer to your goal every day. Example:
―Every day in every way I am getting closer to my goal.‖
2.
Create an affirmation that states that your goal has already been accomplished.
Example:
―I have already reached my goal.‖
3.
Twice daily speak this goal aloud and release the negative feelings that come up as outlined above. Do this until you feel positive about the goal. Repeat daily.
In the final part of the course, Step 6, you are going to learn how to drive your goal deeper into your subconscious mind and how to command it to manifest your goal into reality.

Often we find negative thoughts taking over when our guard is down and many people can find it difficult to stay focused on their objectives long enough to re-program themselves for success. This is where mind conditioning technology can be invaluable and worth its weight in gold.
