Pop, a veteran, served his country as a member of the US Air Force for six years, which led to wearing a plethora of other hats. After working for many trucking companies, Pop settled in with Billings Freight Systems, from which he retired as the director of safety in 2002. Pop’s love for his community and serving the people was a special kind of love. He was a charter member of Davidson County Fireman’s Honor Guard, from which he served as Chaplin, treasurer and a member of the Davidson County Rescue Squad, a member of American Legion Post 8, treasurer of the Davidson County Public Safety Association and the Davidson County Fireman’s Fraternal Death Benefit, and was a member of the West Lexington Fire and Rescue for more than 35 years. He was also a certified Chinese interpreter serving in the Far East theater. In January 2019, Pop was the recipient of the Old North State Award. Pop was loved by his Lord and Savior and shared that love with his family and fellow brothers and sisters. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed being outside playing golf, feeding and watching his birds, and singing with his Gospel Ministry Group for more than 20 years. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Rest easy Pop, we’ve got it from here. 3
