Compound Line Bows Guide 2012 has a large compound bow section: it has as much as 24 pages. In this rich vademecum, that presents a selection of 8 of the most prestigious brands the market offers, a brand stands out as really innovative: PRIME. The most clearly visible feature is the parallel CAM that allows the limbs to work even, without the cam leaning due to the eccentric load on the cables. Together with the top models Centroid and Shift G5, the company owner of the PRIME brand, offers an intermediate level line with more classical features: the Quest. Recurve Line Another four year period quickly comes to its end and the Olympic Games are approaching. This is a year devoted to recurve archery. Hoyt makes its position as a leader stronger with the release for the innovative HPX riser that completes the Formula series, which is indeed very large. W&W adds up a new aluminium riser and new colors on the existing models. What is really interesting are the new products in the first price range, where Cartel and Samick add some new risers. The EXE line of limbs is confirmed as performing but with a renewed graphic, always on the high quality price that is its own distinctive feature.

Traditional Line Traditional archery is extremely wide-ranging and dynamic. Though being always linked to the classical designs of the traditional models the producers strive to introduce new details in a context that would seem, to a non-expert, static and conservative. Fred Bear started making bows, arrows and strings under the guidance of Art Young who had lit him up with passion through his documentaries. In 1933 Fred was working for a company that produced advertising materials and he made bows for himself and for his friends in his free time. In a six years time the work as a bowyer was a full time job and the Bear Archery company was founded. Excellent shooter, Fred won the state championships in 1934, 1937 and 1939. In 1942 Fred and the editor Jack Van Coevering filmed in the Upper Pensinsula in Michigan the first of a long series of movies portraying Fred hunting with his bow. These movies together with the numerous appearances on hunting magazines set up the interest for archery and for Bear products. Fred Bear soon became an icon easily recognizable thanks to his reddened face and his Borsalino hat. In 1947 the company moved to Grayling, Michigan, and in the following two decades Fred travelled around the world for hunting trips and shooting films. This advertising, together with his appearance in the Life magazine, made him a worldwide know character. Fred was active in the development of the products and in bowhunting promotion until he died in 1988. Nowadays they are still developing fine, beautiful and highly performing traditional bows based on his designs.
