The Writing Center Now Available Blackboard IM By Davy Lowman, Online Coordinator Since the Writing Center opened back in January of this year, the Writing Center have continuously explored new venues for online tutoring, and the Writing Center is super happy to introduce Blackboard IM as a new online service. In a nutshell, Blackboard IM is your typical instant messaging service but with a few more bells and whistles, such as audio and video chat. Blackboard IM also incorporates desktop, whiteboard and program sharing, so while some students upload their papers for synchronously editing with a writing coach, others join their classmates for synchronously searches of NCLive. To access the Blackboard IM tool, go to the Writing Center Blackboard course, and click the Blackboard IM link in the menu. Follow the prompts to create an account and download the software. Once the program is downloaded, log in, and look for a Writing Center coach under the school tab. Stay up to date with new services through the Writing Center Blackboard course, website, Facebook page, and Twitter. Poetry Viva Voce! Laughter ISSUE # 8
Laughter By Millie Knox It begins with an image, idea, or thought Then a strange, warm, mischievously fluttering feeling courses through your mind and body A tickle, no, maybe it's more like an itch that makes its way to one corner of your mouth Then trickles to the other side Tug - stretch - grin A burst of rich, bubbly sounds spew like a freshly opened bottle of champagne Oh, my sides hurt I can't stop laughing Hahahahahaha! Hahahahahaha! That is so funny Hahahahahaha! Hahahahahaha! That was so funny Ha...ha...ha...!

To Our Coaches
WRITING CENTER ANNOUNCEMENT The call of duty for our writing coaches goes beyond the writing page. The regular call of duty is to send at least one feedback on each student’s paper, and assist in creating an acceptable essay, resume, etc... Our coaches do much more than that, as student Stephen Ralston expresses in his appreciation at receiving four call-backs and two offers since Coach Jefferson “tore” his resume apart. He stated that the input and suggestions was the catalyst for change. Thumbs up to our coaches!
The Art of Writing By Robert Louis Stevenson THERE IS NOTHING more disenchanting to man than to be shown the springs and mechanism of any art. All our arts and occupations lie wholly on the surface; it is on the surface that we perceive their beauty, fitness, and significance; and to pry below is to be appalled by their emptiness and shocked by the coarseness of the strings and pulleys. In a similar way, psychology itself, when pushed to any nicety, discovers an abhorrent baldness, but rather from the fault of our analysis than from any poverty native to the mind. And perhaps in aesthetics the reason is the same: those disclosures which seem fatal to the dignity of art seem so perhaps only in the proportion of our ignorance; and those conscious and unconscious artifices which it seems unworthy of the serious artist to employ were yet, if we had the power to trace them to their springs, indications of a delicacy of the sense finer than we conceive, and hints of ancient harmony…
