Hope ISSUE #6
Fireflies (Morgan DePue GC student) The stars were fireflies we'd reach for leap to and capture making pickle jars with holes poked in lids their newest residence. We were always so surprised to come back the next night expecting the same starry lantern to glow brightly and finding only the jar, empty. That's when we learned the holes in the lid were big enough for bugs to escape but we just knew that this magic jar could still hold dreams.
Never once did we think that the poison could leak in through the holes in the lid and when we exhumed the jar that held our cherished aspirations we found it muddied and our visions unclear. The only thing that was visible in that makeshift coffin of our dreams was that in youth time moves slower than the seasons and we give reason to what we wish for but the inevitability of aging has us grown-up from all the pain the world throws our way and the days pass like grains of sand through the eye of the storm in the hourglass.
So we built our time capsule and buried it deep so as to keep evil away from the stars of our brightest hopes.

Hope ISSUE # 6
Rihanna Ticket Winner On July 14th 2011 the Gaston College Writing Center raffled off the long-waited free tickets to see Rihanna on her “Loud Tour” in Greensboro, NC on July16th. A large amount of 360 names were entered into the drawing for the tickets by simply turning in a paper to be coached online, or coming in to the GCWC for help on an essay or anything involving the writing process. The name of each single student was then entered into a hat and one was drawn out randomly. Christian Smith of the TRiO office drew the winning name, and Barbara Lovett won two tickets to see Rihanna this past Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum. Thank you to all the students that have come to the GCWC the past month, to Jefferson Fortner for donating the tickets, and to everyone that helped promote this activity. Congratulations to Barbara Lovett once again for winning the tickets, and we are sure she enjoyed it with her twelve-year-old daughter Morgan!
